  1. While a lot of people "investing" in Thai real estate are happy to pay 20+ year's worth of market rent for properties they don't even really own legally, assuming appreciation rather than depreciation and not even factoring maintenance charges.

If rent is "throwing money away" under those circumstances, so is paying an electric bill. . .

  2. I don't think anyone's expressing surprise, just frustration.

It is certainly true that management SHOULD put more effective training programs in place, it would be in their interest to do so, can't really "push" any items effectively if you don't have decent product knowledge.

But in order to do that of course you'd need to have managers with a clue, and onward upstream until we're back talking about how bad the education system is here. . .

  3. That conflict =

Then another spell with British armed forces 15th/19th Hussars in Perak central Malaya during the emergency operating in jungle areas around the Sungie Siput area.

Since the "Remnants of War" thread got closed down for too much discussion of non-Thai historical stuff, didn't want to sidetrack from the (supposedly) bumbling Thais.

  4. Seal off Haad Rin beach with soldiers and navy skiffs and drugs test 8,000 people all at once knowing 99.99% of them will come up positive, commandeer all the local ferry boats and inter everyone in purpose-built camps because they don't have room in the regular jails and then book everyone court dates.

Economy of the region goes into a total tailspin, including of course the local BiB organized and approved drug dealing operations.

Crikey they've got enough challenges just picking up the pieces after the party every month, processing head cases for the mental wards, burning the bodies of OD victims etc.

But a funny mental picture, anyway.

  5. Yes to everything said, best is to say I don't need any help and walk off. If anyone follows you just stop, make eye contact and very politely say you don't want any help.

If they are following you disappear quickly around a corner in one of the aisles and as they come round the corner jump out and say "Boo" they leave you alone very quickly...works everytime I have done it...wink.png

If they're cute try hitting on them, that works too!

So, if not Home Pro ... what other choices are there?

    .

not many they did open a global house superstore near us we bought a set of lights for the kitchen 4 in total,no wireing instructions and no country of origin just crap so we dont go back there.over the past 2yrs i have posted many fk.ups by staff at home pro,the time we bought paint for the house[in the d.i.y.forum],they gave us the wrong colour, took it back one girl told the wf.she had put too much water in it then some <deleted> said that toa had changed the code when he was asked why havent you got a notice up his reply was its up to you to ask.the wf.phoned toa and was told it had not changed any codes, but the problem was they wernt cleaning the machine so the right amount of colour added to the base was not enough, that prick was never to be seen again.

That's one mother long sentence dude. . .

  6. Not saying he did, but people do change over time.

And for the better too, self-discipline isn't something you have or don't have, it's the perceived result, outcome of a combination of genetics (IMO minor factor), personality traits learned from parents, culture and peers in early life (IMO major factor) and the habitual application of healthy habits that build on each other, ideally becoming automatic and therefore no longer sapping the limited "willpower energy" we have available for each day's efforts.

A bout of depression or falling into bad habits, addictions that sap that energy can lay your whole life to waste.

Slowly starting with baby steps building the good habits back up result in behavior patterns (re-)forming until you're back to high levels of productivity and suddenly people see you as "self-disciplined" again as if you were born with it.

Other virtues like kindness, empathy and skills even certain types of intelligence are the same, the human mind is infinitely mutable.

But most people prefer to be stuck in their long-term habitual patterns.

  7. If you're a foreigner thinking of suing a Thai, best of luck to you.

In the unlikely event you won a battle or two you're still going to lose the war.

Of course rules are different for large MNCs with deep pockets, but they've got their Thai allies on board.

why do people insist upon saying this.

Are you speaking from any direct experience or is this just your opinion?

I know a number of people (foreign) who have sued thai nationals and all have won because their cases were solid.

If you read my post you'll see I wasn't talking about winning a suit specifically but accomplishing the larger overall objective. My direct and long experience here is that it's having well-connected Thais that helps or hurts you here much more than legalistic maneuvers, and that a foreigner using the Thai legal system to accomplish their larger goals can have unintended consequences, sometimes coming back and biting you in the arse without any clear connection to the ultimate cause.

  8. SBC has the Mastercard logo...I know Paypal accepts it but still no go as I visited a branch and was told they don't work with Paypal.

I don't know if that's true or not, most local branches have no clue whatsoever about PayPal, and they can't help you do anything anyway, PayPal is set up to do everything via their website software through the payment processing networks without any human bank employees doing anything.

You should be able to find out when you set up the feature "link a Thai bank account" to your PayPal for the purpose of withdrawing money from your PayPal account by having money deposited to your bank account.

If you mean funding (topping up) your PayPal account, that can only be done with a true **credit card** in Thailand not by automated withdrawal direct from a bank account AFAIK their instructions for say SG don't apply to Thailand.

If you mean registering a card to use via PayPal to make purchases online, that may mean that SCB blocks transfers to that vendor (PayPal). Probably best to contact their central Customer Service during working hours and try to get transferred to someone with a clue about PayPal that speaks decent English, or go to their head office branch, not deal with local branches.

  9. ARGH I'm still having problems with Paypal after getting a debit card from Bangkok Bank. Everyone has said they were able to link their debit card to Paypal okay but I'm still having issues! I still can't make online purchases either despite me asking if everything was ok and ready to go after I finished opening the account at a Bangkok Bank branch. I still get error messages everywhere despite I got my card verified by Visa. Is there something else I forgot to do to make this dam_n thing work? Again thanks in advance

You need to be more clear in order for us to help advise you.

"Link a debit card to PayPal"

Do you mean when you use PayPal to make purchases online, you want the amount charged to your debit card?

Or do you mean the ability to receive money into your PayPal and then withdraw from there into your BB account?

Or is it possibly that you're looking for ways to "fund" your PayPal account from your own money?

"got my card verified by VISA"

Do you mean your BB debit card is the Visa Electron type?

Or do you mean some other debit card?

Or do you mean a genuine VISA credit card?

What verification process do you mean, within the Paypal procedures? The "small change" bank account verifaction procedure? Or something direct with VISA International?

You really need to write more precisely for us to understand what's going wrong where. . .

The PayPal service has been set up with very carefully written step-by-step directions, tested and honed over the years and millions of customers.

You can always try more than one bank or accounts at the same bank or different cards etc in each path in/out category to see where the issue lies.

Have you tried contacting their customer service?

If you post back here, try to be clear about exactly what procedure you tried to follow - use their terminology in your post - and exactly what errors you go at what stage.

  10. So Scott made an appointment with a high-ranking policeman, and literally throwing wads of hard cash onto the negotiating table, asked what could be done? So the police negotiated some deal with the mafia gang (for a price) and all was arranged. The 3 children were handed over into the tender loving care of the couple. Sadly one of the girl’s was so mentally disturbed and uncontrollable that she had to be returned to the mafia gang, but the other 2 children, although it was extremely hard work, eventually began to settle down with Scott and his wife as a family, and as far as I know, they all lived happily ever after.

    -

Footnote - these particular starfish were saved, but as a result - their profitable purchase price from the mafia gang (really separate from the police, you think?) paid for another group to be abducted/purchased from wherever they came from an put to work out in exactly the same territory as before, few more starfish tossed up on the beach.

A great and noble sacrifice by your friend, yet no less net suffering in the world.

    Just sayin', life goes on.
