And not forgetting the TM30 hassles which could be stopping Expats from travelling in-country and staying in hotels, using local businesses etc...
It's about tourists, not about expats.
Tourists are not bothered by TM30 conditions and even less about extensions.- 2

After reading many reactions, I have to conclude that we are eagerly looking for a back gate solution. Just the monthly equivalent of 65,000 baht transfer will be too hard apparently.

BTW. how do the Thai's validate what your suggesting
below, documents in multiple different languages ?
and level of cover, what level of cover should it be ?
English and/or translating to Thai.
I suggest the same cover level as a travel insurance including 'repatriating'.
But once again, this discussion can be held in an other topic.

we have heath insurance and accident insurance.
I'm not so sure about that.
I agree for some countries where people used to pay private health insurance. I know a lot of foreigners who can't afford it.
But OK, i'ts off-topic in this discussion.

Proof of yearly payment of insurance should be mandatory for retirement visa holders. Most of the western foreigners traveling to Thailand don't leave their country without a travel insurance.

either you can get one, but for 6 months only, and so you cannot extend it up to one year
actual this is what they call the new rules.
if you're just interesting in Thai languish course, you not need the ED-visa, you can go to a school with any type of visa :-)

A visa is a favor not a right, never think they need you. They allow you to stay in the country !
Follow the rules and get a proper visa or stay out of Thailand, easy.
Don't think the Thai economy will drop down because they deny people to get in.

Simple solution !!!
Get a single entry tourist visa before you come again
Problem solved ?
These people fly from oil rig to airport to bangkok,,
Which oil rigs do you know with a Thai consulate on them ??
Do they all do ? Or are there some who fly from oil rig to HOME ?

If you know in advance that you want (will) to stay longer than 30 days in the country, go get a tourist visa.

So you can buy a years coverage for 12k bht but won't be allowed the back to back border hops to stay a year?
You don't need back to back border-runs, you can travel as a tourist theoretically 6 times a year for 60 days with a proper visa, apart it would cost you ฿ 18900 for plan 2, so what would you choose, individual trip or annual cover plan?

Go get a Tourist visa if you know you will stay longer than 29 days in the Country.

Yes, I think if they continue to apply the rule so rigidly it will eventually hurt tourism.
They asked me no questions. They had no interest in why I wanted to enter Thailand, whether I had a hotel reservation, onward or return tickets, money, nothing. You have three chops, you can't come back. End of story.
Why not entering the Kingdom with the right visa from the start of your stay, a tourist visa for example ? You would have a few stamps less ;-)
I really not understand why people need to border-run when they pretend to be a tourist.
Just get a visa before leaving your home country.

Your UK license will be fine no problem
I don't think so.
The UK license need to be accompanied by an international license when you are in Thailand on a tourist based visa.
If you have a non.immigrant visa you need a Thai license.
Having a wrong license is one of the major reasons the insurance company will use to avoid paying.
This is my humble opinion.
