  1. I cant watch it!!!!

    It makes me cringe.

Totally agree things like this gives thailand a bad reputation. I can see pattaya getting full of total <deleted>,yobs and beer belly idiots. I have been over 3 times in the last  6 or so months and can see its getting worse very quick.

Hi there,i am about to book pataya for 18 days holidays soon, never been there before, been to koh samui was great,is it really that bad theer?,i am travelling alone for the first time ever and although looking forward to it i am getting a lot of negative feedback about pataya, fun, sun, relaxing yes,but if it is shady, dirty, unpleasant, and rough and rowdy i will change my plans!.

As you have been over for 3 times recently i would really appreciate your further help advice and comments about pataya,i am 49yrs old single guy, sensible?.

    regards

  2. Hi

I am coming to Bangkok for 3 nights and then going on to Pataya for 18 nights holiday, what do you recommended as the most cost effective travel arrangements for that journey from BKK airport to Pataya,i am trying to compare it to what the travel agent is charging me(see if they are charging a fair price) which i think is £40 return, but that does include picking me up from BKK airport to the hotel in BKK Radisson, which i think is right near by the expressway of the airport,so not a far distance!.

    Thanks

  5. Hi,

I would appreciate some helpful comments about the beach/beaches in Pataya it would of great interest to me?.From the comments i have seen in the forum the beach/beaches do not look too good!.

No one has specified particulars, are they dirty, untidy,is the sea polluted and dirty,is there a lot of debris, people hassling you ect ect, some accurate comments would be appreciated.

I am hoping to stay at the AMARI ORCHID HOTEL (north pataya road),i understand the beach is across the road, what is it like any good?,hotel and beach?.

    Thanks. :o

  6. I would not rule out the general Pattaya area.. It's the most easily reached when driving from Chiang Mai. I had a real nice long weekend there with my wife and mum-in-law. You just have to know where (not) to go. Places not to go would include Pattaya and Jomtien. Places to do go would be Wong Amat beach (Naklua road, some excellent affordable motel/bungalow options there, or on the other side of Pattaya Hill, near the Cosy Beach Hotel (nice and affordable, close to a nice little bay)

Then further South there's more good beaches, like inside that naval base. Oh and Ko Larn island of course. (Go to Samae Beach on Ko Larn in particular)

If you're really opposed to Pattaya then Ko Samet isn't that much further. Trat to me sounds like a really long drive and personally I don't think Ko Chang is nicer than Samet..

Hua Hin...  Kind of feels like Jomtien beach to me. (I know many people disagree with that, but on  a casual visit it had all the touristyness of Jomtien, but at higher prices.)

My favorite though:  Prachuap Khriri Khan town & Ao Manao.. That's a long drive from Chiang Mai tho.

Hi i am about to decide to book in the next few days,to come to Pataya for holiday for 18 days, staying at the AMARI ORCHID HOTEL on the( North Pataya Road)are the beach/beaches at Pataya not to good then, can you further elaborate on your comment, thanks.

  7. Thanks very much for the very helpful and informative reply back regarding Visas ect!,much appreciated,i am coming out to Pataya hopefully on the 23rd MAY,for a holiday for 18 nights and to have a good look around too.

I am staying at the AMARI ORCHID HOTEL,any feedback on this Hotel?,i understand it is supposed to be quite good and near to everything but enough away so as not to have it all in your face e.g some peace and quite but nearby walk to main central strip for fun.

I am sort of semi-retired as i have ditched work for a Year,to recover from some health problems that were assosciated with the job which i have done for some 30 years, that was a good move,no regrets at all, plus it has given me the chance to travel a bit and enjoy life a bit as i have always been working my guts out!.

I do not rule out the chance to work again, i am happy to work, if possible to find it, as i have always been working since 17 yrs old,so i've been quite active, but for now i am enjoying travel and meeting people from around the world and making new friends. maybe not but i will enjoy the holiday anyway, thanks again for your kind help.I have been to Thiland before and Malaysia before.

By the way are there any Live music bars that are frequented by Brits that are living out in Pataya so that i could meet up with and chat with and get a low down on living in Pataya?.

Any tips for pataya as i am coming over on my own?.

    Regards

  8. Hi,

I would like to come to pataya to maybe rent somewhere, possibly for 3 months or more, with the intention of getting a feeling and seeing what it is like living in Thailand.

I am from the uk and will be 50 in august, have my own house in the uk paid for, single, and an income of more than 800k per year.

It seems that there are a lot of regulations, visa problems, ect ect which seem a bit constraining and a bit off putting to someone who genuinly wants to maybe come and live in Thailand.

I understand the bank/income side of things that is sensible!,no government wants to accept people to live in their country if they cannot afford to live there and therefore become a burden(unlike the u.k where anyone can virtually come in penniless with no job and no income and no savings).

There are some questions i have:-

1/What is the standard minimum visa issued is it (30 days/1 month?) and the maximum issued to Thailand?

2/What Visa Would i need for a stay of 3 months or more.

3/What is the best advice for renting, say a one bedroom place furnished, mod cons, ect and cost in pataya?.

4/As i understand it you have to have 800k in a thai bank account?,is that all the time?,minimum balance throughout the year?.

5/Do you have to have to have a proven income coming in from outside source regulary every month or can you just transfer say £10.000 each year in 1 transfer lump.

6/Do you have to show your bank balance and proof of income?,is this safe, who are you showing this too?,as a concern about spoofing and identity theft ect ect.

7/Is it easy to tranfer funds from the U.K to Thailand?,which bank in thailand is recommended for this,a good reliable service ect.

8/If you have funds of 800k stuck in a bank account each year you are losing interest?,is there a bank that pays interest on savings?.

I would like some peoples experiences of re-locating to thailand and how they started off, problems, visas, renting, buying property, ect ect, appreciate any and all help thanks very much!.

    regards

  9. The majority of houses in Pattaya are east of Sukhumvit so by saying you don't want that area you're severely limiting yourself. I've rented serveral houses in this area and never had a problem with my two big dogs.

    Hi there,

can you give me some advice as i intend to come to come to Pataya soon for 3 weeks holiday with the intention of looking for either somewhere to rent or somewhere to buy,i think initially to rent first!,possibly for 3-6-12 months?.

I noticed that you have rented out several houses and so have good experince of renting ect,can you give me some advice on practices and probable costs 2 bedroom? i have a black labrador dog 4 yrs old called Max,but initially i might put him in kennels in the uk for 3 months,to see how i get on living in pataya.

I am from the uk and english single 49 -semi-retired for the moment but with my own income, how do you get round living in Thailand regarding VISAs ect,i see so many different items/postings on it?,i am a bit confused by it all,can i get a 12 month visa to live in Thailand?,or do i have to get a 3 month then renew it?,how do you do it?.

    regards

  10. Hi there,

i am fairly new to the forum,i am 100% behind you on the ROCK MUSIC subject in Bars,as well as BLUES and SOUL,as a guitarist/musician of Rock/Blues it is music to my ears to hear this music wherever i go in the world!.

I went to KOH SAMUI THAILAND 2 years ago and went into CHEWANG the main town area-and saw a flashing sign "THE JIMI HENDRIX BAR" halfway down a street full of bars,so i went to investigate.

Whilst walking down this darkened street full with girls outside trying to pull me in quite furiously and energetically(i was tempted!) i managed to keep focused and made it to the most amazing Jimi Hendrix Tribute Bar i have ever seen!,HENDRIX Music playing away loudly,VIDEO footage playing, memorabila and photos everywhere,a fender stratocaster guitar on the wall and a full marshall 100w stack and 2, 4*12 cabinets,it was a shine to hendrix.

The Thai guy had a frizz style hairstyle, probably a wig not sure?,he was so nice and friendly spoke good english and was owner of the bar, i spent all night in here in heaven,a fewmore people came in later on,not a girl was in the place!,probably the only bar in Koh Samui that did not have a girl in it! :o

I am interested in the post you made as i am intending to come to Pataya soon for both a holiday and to see about living permantly/semi-permantely,i am only a young 49 but retired for now and single, and want to have some fun and sun and change lifestyle,so what advice can you give about living in pataya, where to live, buy or rent, and can you get a a long term visa or a permanent visa to live in thailand, and is it possible to buy property easily or is there still obstacles with thai law, like you cannot buy land,or you need to set up a business ect ect,and basically how long have you lived in thailand?, and how do you find living in Pataya. :D

  11. I worked with a guy years ago in Scotland. He said his wife just wasnt into sex as much. He told us that these were her words." Put my nightdress down when you are finished darling." :o

:D I am a bit confused here?,so why was he wearing his wifes nightdress in the first place?,maybe that was the reason she had gone off SEX? :D" Put my nightdress down when you are finished darling"- i suppose she felt naked and deprived sleeping without it?-poor love- :D:D.

  12. Hi to everyone! :D ,

we are newbies to this site, although we have looked on it a few times to get some tips we would like to ask you all out there for some help and advice about actually moving out to Thailand and buying a property or have one built?- ect, experieces ect?.

Firstly from what we have understood of buying property/land(when we out in thailand 2003) previously you had to either have your own business set up, or be married to a thai national?-is this correct?.

Today an english guy who is semi-retired and works in a greengrocer shop locally - had bought a house/farm with his thai partner some 2 years ago, told us

that you can now buy property in Thailand without the above conditions applying, can anyone clarify the Legalities of it all?.

We have also today sent an e-mail to tha Thai Embassy in london to clarify things as well so to speak, might get a reply?.

We are hoping to come over to Pataya soon May 2005 for a holiday and look for a house/property 3 bed minimum, but before we start on the looking venture we would like some help and maybe other peoples experiences of the move to thailand and what it entailed and how they have settled in to Thailand?.

Also what is the best way to buy property coming from the uk?,cash buy?,bankers draft, electronic transfer?-how have others of you done it,again some helpful advice much appreciated.

My female partner is now Retired at 67yrs old but is in very healthy and come from Malaysia and has lived in the uk for 40 yrs and holds a british passport as i do,we both have our own properties and income, but i would like to continue working as i am not retired for 15yrs yet.
