  1. Recently used e-packet to send a motorcycle sprocket from Thailand to UK.... just under 1 kg,  cost 865 bht, delivered in about 14 days.   Royal Mail Tracking picks it up eventually, and you get photo confirmation of delivery on their website.

Can't comment for delivery to other countries.

Prices charged in 100 gr increments, and max of 2kg to most destinations (except UK which is 5kg)

    Official prices & conditions attached.

  2. I know the thread a bit old, but we got a house with new D&W windows installed, but no insect screens.  I see the channels are there to accept the screens, and I'm looking for the elusive D&W showroom in Chiang Mai.    Have emailed the Co in BKK, with no reply yet.

Left phone no with a couple of other local companies who custom make screens, but I guess they are all still sat around a table drawing lots as to who is call the dreaded farang !

So has anyone in CM managed to find these specific D&W screens available for purchase up here ?

  3. Fact - was in similar situation.  Wanted to take GF for a 2 week motorcycle tour last May, during our 6 month UK visit. (She has 10 year UK tourist visa now)

We live in Chiang Mai so applied at VFS there in February, on the basis the "most nights would be spent in Germany" (and it wud save a trip to BKK for the application ????).  Had to make a Booking.com reservation for first 2 nights in Germany which we subsequently cancelled.

Also had travel insurance in place for the entire visit.

For German Schengen applications you now fill out an online form (I made a mistake and hand filled out a PDF I downloaded, so had to do the electronic one on my mobile in VFS office.  Fair does, they were relatively helpful here in waiting, then printing off for me). Oh make sure your girls name is on the hotel booking too.

Didn't ask for tour details / ferry bookings etc, or anything else.

2 weeks later, we got the Visa, multiple entry but for just 6 weeks .... maybe as it was her first application.

Tour completed with no hassles at either the Tunnel out, or the ferry back.

  4. Chiang Mai Immigration certainly requires one if you have left the Country (for a Retirement extension) and will be happy to fine you if not.  The rules changed a little about 3 years ago whereby leaving the province did not require a new TM30 on return.

I agree with Dr Jack in that all offices are different, but my best advice is to do one anyway after leaving the Country irrespective of having a re-entry permit or not.  You will almost certainly be asked for a copy when doing any visa extension/renewal.

  5. Can only add to the growing history .... 2 months ago ... one eye done, Zeiss trifocal lens (best all rounder & no need for glasses), in and out in 3 hours, local, not general anaesthetic.... Chiang Mai Sriphat hospital. 76,000 thb.

Totally painless, if not daunting... results perhaps not as good as I was hoping for, but much better than previous.  Still, it is early days.

  6. For what its worth, in Chiang Mai, they did not require any embassy letter ... GF called to ask and they just wanted Old passport, TM30, TM6 and photocopies of last ten pages of entry stamps into Thailand.  I just copied every page with a Thai stamp on it for good measure.

No hassle in immigration, just sat down if front of a designated desk, while they gave me both Visa & Re-entry permit stamps in new passport.  Took about 10 mins, with No fee payable.

  7. Im sure its different for all, and just maybe it depends on many factors.

As a Condo owner with a yellow book, and pink id card, I got approved with user name and p/w in about 5 days.

Its not an easy website to use, granted, as some parts are translated, others not.

They don't specify what to send, but what I chose to send as supporting docs were :

    • UK Passport (just id page, not visa)
    • Thai Pink ID card copy
    • Yellow House book (first 2 pages)
    • Copy of Land registration I got when purchased condo
    • An old letter I found from the Juristic Person certifying how long I lived there ... chucked in for good measure.

And as a hint, the website only takes uploads of 1Mb max, so suggest you compile in a single folder ready to upload, having checked the size first.  Annoyingly, if one is too large, the site makes you start the whole process again.

The email will come from [No-Reply]Immigration Bureau Thailand <[email protected]

So you know what to look for.

  8. I would add that when juggling the 800k funds, remember Immigration go by the application date, and not the visa expiry date.

Last year I moved money to ensure I just about complied with the 3 month seasoning rules.  To be safe, I applied for my extension one month before expiry (so the funds had only been in just over 2 months) ... the Agency said to come back and apply once the funds had been in for 3 months ... which was just a few days before the actual visa ran out.

A bit close for comfort, a wasted statement from the bank, and a lesson learned there !

  9. I would be very careful about assuming your early trip to Cambodia will solve the problem !

In ignorance, I tried a similar ruse a couple of years ago .... I came over with a 60 day UK issued Tourist Visa in my passport .... was lucky to get a 30 day visa exempt on arrival at the airport, then went off for a week in Laos 2 weeks later.

Leaving Thai (by road, on a m/c) was no problem, but when I tried to re-enter a week later (at the Vientiane Friendship bridge), the sharp eyed immigration officer looked at the 60 day visa, and the date it was issued.

Then looked at the 30 day visa exempt stamp with its later date.....

she went ballistic, cancelled my unused 60 day Tourist Visa, and gave me a 15 day entry permit.

Later I did look closely at the "rules" on the Hull Thai Embassy site, and it states you can not do this, so she was correct.

Take this as a word of warning, and don't bank on your plan working, especially with recent events. I appreciate that some readers will have had Thai partners to argue their case ( I didn't), so have a contingency plan if you do go ahead.

    Rgds.

  10. In the UK you can get an IDP by downloading and sending the form off with piccie and money. This will cover .. you know the old saying if you do not do it then it will go wrong for abut £5.50 - do it !

    why risk ..???

    http://www.postoffice.co.uk/international-driving-permit

I got all excited when I read this .. I mean the Post Office making things easy !! But alas, I followed your link and the status quo has not changed .... you still have to go in and get the form, and you still have to apply in person, and the nearest "participating" Post office is still miles away in a town where parking is an arse !

Or am I missing something ?

  11. I have two UK passports (from my days when working in the shipping industry and u cud do this quite legally) .. I thought I was being smart when I planned to use the first one to cover a brief 20 day stay in Thai, then after a trip to Laos, come back in on the second, which had a 60 day Tourist visa.

No way wud they allow that ... when I tried to present the second, border immigration at Nong Khai looked for the Laos entry & exit stamps (which were in the first). When I explained and showed them both passports, they promptly cancelled the 60 day visa, and gave just a 15 day entry permit.

The explanation was that I should have used the visa up on the first entry to Thai, even if it only was for 20 days.

I cant find these "rules" publicised anywhere, but evidently that's the case with land entry's. Maybe it would have been different if I flew out and back in, but I don't know that for sure.
