  1. If you get an extension it may valid for a year or 90 days dependent upon the organization. If you get the extension you not need a non-b visa,

The class of the non immigrant visa you have does require a different work permit application form.

You should not not any financial info for the NGO.

Thanks for your help, me and my boss are going to go to the work permit office next week to try to sort out the work permit for my NON-O visa.

  2. If you can get the work permit issued with your non-o visa you would not need to get a non-b visa. You could apply for a extension of stay at immigration of your 90 day entry from the non-o visa.

The thing is I need a way to stay here long term, due to my boyfriend of 3 years not being able to leave the country (or province for that matter).

However already being on a NON-O I guess you're right I could just do that and when I go home to visit family I can apply for a NON-B which is more easy.

Is the application for a work permit when you're on a NON-O the same? I have the WP1 form here.

Because the application asks for your salary, and you need to have an overview of the financial for the previous year.

However as a 'volunteer' I will not be receiving salary and I know an NGO in Thailand is actually not required to keep track of income and outcome as they also don't pay taxes.

Do you happen to know if I would need the financial bit as well if you're not a company but registered as a foundation.

I'm sorry for my many questions, but I am the only and first foreigner working at this NGO, and my boss is just as much lost as I am.

  3. The normal visa to have when working with a NGO is the non-o visa.

The only requirement to have a work permit issued is a non immigrant visa.

You cannot change to a non-b visa within the country.

But I'm working on a salary, and a NON-O visa is a volunteer visa for which you are not allowed to receive a salary, correct?

I'm doing this long term, I'm not doing volunteer work but working in the office of an NGO. Therefore I felt what I needed was a NON-B.

I know I cannot change visa's within the country I was going to go to Laos to do it.

  4. Hi,

I'm getting lost in all of the visa stuff so I would really appreciate some help.
I've entered Thailand in December on a NON-B Visa, the foundation that I work at was unable to get the documents for a work permit in time and I was also unable to re-apply for a NON-B on my visa run in Laos as our manager did not give me the correct papers.

So I went to Laos and applied for a NON-O based on volunteer work.

Now I want to reapply for a NON-B Visa.

For this you need a letter of approval from the department of employment or something similar.

I've found the WP1 form but filling it in I of course have to fill in what kind of visa I'm on.

So does this mean that the letter will state that it is for a NON-O visa only?

If so does anyone have any advice on what to do (with a very small budget, as working for an NGO I do not get a high salary)

  5. Is going to Vientiane Laos at all recommended?

I don't want to open another topic with practically the same questions.

But I have to go by the end of the month.

I'm on a work visa right now but the papers for my work permit are not finished yet.

I wanted to go to Vientiane Laos for the new visa.

I'm on a very tight budget (working for an NGO my salary is not that great) so I can't really just fly out to Signapore or some place.

The thing is my situation is a bit different.

I'm working for a NGO so the documentation is not quite the same as for a regular company.

We don't have taxes, it's nearly impossible for a foundation to get the registration documents renewed so I just have the original one, no letter of the ministry of labour.

Do you think I'll be OK going to Laos. I easily got it in the Netherlands but I'm very worried about renewing.

Working for a NGO should allow you to get a non-o visa instead of a non-b. You would not need the work permit application approval letter to get it.

Vientiane Laos would be a good choice. I suggest you or somebody from the organization to confirm what is needed. Contact info: http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/en/embassy/address.php

    From therir website.

For those wishing to volunteer work in public organizations, charity / foundation.

The document must include accompanying visas.

    1. A copy of the license or a license to organize activities for public charity.
    2. Work permit (if available).
    3. Notice of certification or volunteering.

Thank you for your answer, however, non-o is for volunteer work only, correct? I have a paid job, I'm not volunteering.

  7. Hi,

I just got off the phone with the consulate in Amsterdam. They told me that for my 1 year ED visa I'd have to leave the country every three months. This is contradicting the information I got from my language school and basically anywhere on the internet. Or am I supposed to get a single entry? And then extend it at the immigration?

I thought I had to get a multiple entry, and then report every 3 months at the immigration, but then the price is also a lot higher then what my language school tells me it's supposed to be.

I hope someone can give me the answer!

    Thank you so much

  8. The project is definitely not a scam. I've visited the project 2,5 of months ago as well as in 2012 and it is run by genuine kindhearted people who care immensly about the project.

They do tell me they want to do whatever it takes to get me this visa, I think the problem is just that I'm talking to a person who isn't actually going out to get the documents.

A Thai person does this and therefore I think it's mainly just communication problems and the fact that they've never had a foreign volunteer over for a year.

I think this might be easier to arrange if I just visit the project on a day that the owner is there and tell him directly what I need.

I have contacted the embassy as well. I've told both the embassy and the consulate about my problem and asked them what I should do. They don't answer my question they just tell me that without a new certificate and a signature from the ministry I won't get my visa. I have every other required document including a letter of invitation and a copy of ID of the owner of the project etc.

  9. Hi,

I'm 20 years old and in the end of next month I will be leaving to Thailand for 1 year to work as a volunteer.

I was going to apply for a non immigrant o multiple entry visa, but then the consulate told me they needed a certificate of registration, signed and stamped for not more than 6 months by the ministry of commerce.

The organization (or whatever you call it) the volunteer project is registered at says they can't give out a new registration certificate, they can only give a copy of the old origninal one. The consulate says they won't accept this.

I'm now running out of time and don't know what I should do.

I've heard I can just get a regular tourist visa and apply for a non immigrant o visa at a local immigration office in Thailand, where the requirements might not be as strict or as hard to meet.

Does anyone know wether this is actually possible or not.

And if not, could I get a 3 entry tourist visa (it is possible to get one in my country) and when it's expired go to the border to get another tourist visa?

Oh also I already have a return ticket and the return date is in may (changeable date). Can I just buy a cheap ticket to Cambodia to show that I will leave the country? Would I have to buy 3 tickets for the triple entry tourist visa?

I don't want to do anything illegally because I don't want to ruin my chances of staying in Thailand in the future.

    Thank you so much!
