  1. Interesting. I married in Thailand (thai lady), went through the usual processes ie: Freedom to marry, registering at the office in Lop Buri... She's now in prison in Lop Buri. Am I right in saying that I can divorce her legally due to the fact that she is banged up?

You can divorce on the grounds of Criminal Misconduct.

  2. Sounds like I had good fortune on my side from some of your experiences.

The Abba ' money, money, money' song did come to mind and your in their hands, but I checked my symptoms with the NHS website and that also suggested appendicitis.

I do feel much better already, although it's early days.

  3. ??? Is this post for real? Why do you think you had appendicitis? What test where taken? What results lead to the diagnosis? This op needs more info?

Of course it's for real.........want to see the stitches blink.png

I had a really bad cold for a week, then just as that subsided, I got the craps.

I couldn't call it diarrhoea, it was just coloured water.

My whole abdominal area became tender, with progressively worsening twisting pains in my lower right abdominal area.

To be honest I thought I'd got food poisoning and gastric enteritis.

I'd taken Imodium without any relief.

I also often felt like vomiting.

When I visited the practitioner, he physically examined my stomach and lower abdomen area.

Using two fingers he would press firmly in, then a sudden release.

In the centre and right hand side of my lower abdomen the pain was excruciating when he released the pressure.

At the hospital they conducted the same tests, same results.

They took blood, urine and stool samples for testing.

The urine had no infection and the stools were e coli free

Blood samples were normal although they found I had a high fever.

2 Senior doctors both suspected appendicitis but required a CT scan to confirm.

The CT scan confirmed their suspicions.

    I had all the symptoms:

    Symptoms of appendicitis

Appendicitis typically starts with a pain in the middle of your abdomen (tummy) that may come and go.

Within hours, the pain travels to your lower right-hand side, where the appendix is usually located, and becomes constant and severe.

Pressing on this area, coughing or walking, may all make the pain worse.

If you have appendicitis, you may also have other symptoms, including:

    • feeling sick (nausea)
    • being sick
    • loss of appetite
    • diarrhoea
    • a high temperature (fever) and a flushed face

  4. Are you sure it was appendicitis ?

How many kidneys do you have ?

I still have both kidneys thanks.

Definitely appendicitis, which explained why the 'trots' and feeling so bad.

The kidneys and appendix are in totally different locations.

I'll have a nice scar to prove it.

Your not suggesting they'd slip out one of my kidneys for the black market are you?

If I didn't trust the medical treatment you can get in LOS, I wouldn't have moved here.

Medical treatment in Thailand can be good. However I have some stories.......................

I was being treated for reflux by BNH for 1 year with no results. I went home to Oz and it was found to be cancer of my pancreas. It was removed and fortunately I am still here three years later. Another 2 years and I might be in the clear.

Five years ago pain in my shoulder was diagnosed as a pinched nerve in my neck and I was stretched every day for a month on a machine at 2000 baht per day. Went home to Oz again and found that it was a damaged rotator cuff in my shoulder. I had been lifting heavy weights over my head.

Nine years ago I had severe headaches for 2 months. Bumrungrad diagnosed it as early onset Alzheimer's. They sold me heaps of very expensive drugs. It was obviously not Alzheimers as I am able to write this now 9 years later.

I had funny flashing lights in my eyes at one time. I went to Rutnin Eye Hospital and they could not diagnose what it was. Went to Bumrungrad and they told me it was acute angle glaucoma and did laser surgery. Last year a doctor in Oz told me I did not have it and the laser surgery had not been done properly even if I did have it. The Oz doc told me the flashing in my eyes was a very common and harmless thing called an ocular migraine.

A friend was diagnosed with macular degeneration of his eyes and was sold very expensive and ongoing treatment by a doctor in Nan. He finally listened to me and went back to Oz and had it checked - result - he does not have macular degeneration.

I have had some very good treatment here for other things and so have my friends. BUT you do have to be careful and alert to being sold treatment that you don't need or that your doctor is competent and has not bribed his professor to get a pass.

Good luck and get well soon.

I've heard some horror stories myself, but not from anyone I personally know.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It makes people aware that you can't always trust so called 'professionals'.

Always get a second opinion if your not fully confident with their advice.

  5. Consider yourself lucky that the doctor or practitioner advised you to go to a hospital and didn't try to save face (by not admitting he didn't know what was wrong) and do something that would have made it far worse.

    On the contrary Oneday.

I believe the practitioner correctly diagnosed the problem and didn't try to fob me off with medicines.

He wouldn't even charge me for his time.

  6. Thanks to everyone who wished me well.

I was discharged from Hospital this afternoon after 4 days in care.

I've got to carry on with antibiotics and replacing the dressing myself for the next 4 days, then the stiches come out.

Whilst thinking about my situation, similar situation must arise for newcomers to Thailand who weren't as fortunate as myself, in so far as I had a good friend who has a Thai wife who were able to guide me through everything. It must be a daunting experience for someone who doesn't know anyone, no Thai language skills, where to go, what to do. I mean they'd be at the mercy of do-gooders.

Personal possessions, money, valuables, could all be lost/stolen by making an error of misjudgement.

The mind boggles, what could have been!

  7. What was the total of the bill from the hospital to remove your appendix?

    42,000 baht.

Private room, medicines, operation, doctors and surgeon fees,, x-ray and cat scan.

I believe it would have been half the price at one of the Public Hospitals.

I thought the cost was very reasonable considering the care they take of you. Nothing was to much trouble.

  8. "poison is the tool of the powerless"

cant find the exact quote but i am sure it comes from somewhere.

    found this one instead

"Having breast cancer is massive amounts of no fun. First they mutilate you; then they poison you; then they burn you. I have been on blind dates better than that."

Wow! What a bundle of fun you must be................did you happen to be the blind date?

  10. Hi Morakot,

The pipe on my machine in the utility room is just pushed down into the 45mm drain pipe for about 200mm. The drain pipe is about 600mm from the floor, works fine. But I always remove it and cap the end when not in use as I have heard of "things" crawling into the machine before.

By installing a 'U' bend in the washing machine waste as in Morakots diagram, it creates a 'sump' of water which not only blocks nasty drain smells, but also stops creepy crawlies entering through the pipe.

Morakot: The upstanding pipe should not be any higher than the height of your washing machine

  11. Your still missing the point!

    I never mentioned Immigration.............you did.

I got my Residence Certificate from the Local Police Station.

The British Embassy is 7 hours drive away, and my Immigration Office 2 hours drive.

If you don't ask, you'll never know.

Like I said the Police made 2 originals, not 1 and a copy.

Both signed in Ink by the Senior Officer and Administrator.

I walked in and asked what they wanted. Because I rented an apartment in a building block, they asked me for my Tenancy Agreement and a copy of the owners Tabian Baan and their ID. All signed by the property owner.

If you have a Yellow Tabien Bann then you don't need a Residence Certificate (the Yellow Tabien Baan is your proof of residency

These are available from your local Amphur Office.

So depending on your living arrangements/ marital status, you cannot just say you need x, or y documents, without knowing the OP circumstances.

  12. Residence Certificate (proof of address)

If your renting you will need a copy of the owners Tabian Baan (both pages) and a copy of their Thai ID. All copies should be signed by the owner.

I don't know where you live but in bigger towns the District Police Station can issue a Residence Certificate with the above documents.

Residency Certificates are issued FREE......so don't be scammed into paying

Copy your Residence Certificate as they usually want the original

I dealt directly with Honda dealership and managed to get 2 free helmets, a waterproof jacket, 12 month tax and 12 month Insurance.

What on earth are you talking about?

For residency certificate from Immigration one does not need Tabian Baan or owners id card or any of the other crap mentioned

All one needs is copy of the lease and passport

Residency certificate is NOT free and was NEVER free.

Why would you copy it? and not usually but ALWAYS they want original. Copy is useless and can not be used for anything else, not to mention its valid for only 30 days

NO idea, why on earth people come and post such rubbish and mislead others

    Pralaad,

I agree you need a lease and a passport if your renting a house.

I should have explained that I rent an apartment so I don't have a lease. I have a tenancy agreement so I needed a copy of the apartment owners Tabian Baan and their ID.

Residency certificates are FREE. Next time your in Immigration look at their list of charges.

Residency Certificate aren't on the list because there FREE.

(This was covered in another topic not to long ago)

Depending on your living circumstances you may require different documents of proof.

The main point of my post was to point out that depending where you live you do not always have to go to Immigration or the British Embassy for a RC.

lourmaripol has nothing to lose by asking at his local Police Station.

I needed 2 originals (only Thai can issue more than 1 original blink.png ). One to purchase and register the motorcycle. One for the motorcycle driving test.

You didn't exactly read my post correctly before jumping down my throat.

I've just done it all, so that's what on earth I'm talking about!

If your not sure what you need, just go and ask. I visited the Police Station and 1 hour later return with said documents. 10 minutes later a Certificate of Residence - FREE.

  13. Residence Certificate (proof of address)

If your renting you will need a copy of the owners Tabian Baan (both pages) and a copy of their Thai ID. All copies should be signed by the owner.

  14. There are 5 simple Rules to follow to find the Perfect Man.

    1. It's important to find a man who can help in the home, cooks from time to time, cleans up and has a regular income to support the family.

    2. It's important to find a man who can laugh with you and has a good sense of humour.

    3. It's important to find a man you can trust and doesn't lie to you.

    4. It's important the man is good in bed, affectionate, caring and enjoys being in your company.

    5. It's very, very important that these four men don't know each other.

  15. As long as the foreign marriage is regarded as a legal marriage in the UK, it doesn't have to be registered.

Some years ago I divorced my then Chinese wife.

We married in China and I had the red marriage book and a Chinese translation into English.

I never registered the marriage in the UK. It wasn't a problem.

If you got your affirmation of freedom to marry from the British Embassy in BKK and you were married by a registrar at a District Amphur office, then your marriage is recognised as legal within the law of the UK.

    http://www.warothai.com/thai-marriage-rules-for-uk-citizens/

  16. You have the option to divorce in the UK.

Go to your local County Court and get a DIY Divorce pack.

You complete an affidavit detailing reasons for the divorce.

That will be sent to your partner to agree and sign.

On return of said documents a Decree Nisi will be issued in a matter of weeks.

Shortly thereafter your Decree Absolute will follow.

You must both agree to the reasons and they must be for such reasons as adultery or unreasonable behaviour for a quicky divorce.

Total time around 12 weeks......total cost around £400.

You never see a judge or have to enter a Courtroom.

Less red tape and quicker to do in Thailand at the local Amphur, but you do have options to choose from.
