  1. Inadvertently perhaps, you made my case: "US$1.90 or less per day in PPP", i.e. $1.25, as I wrote. Go to China and try to live on 9 yuan a day......or 40 baht a day in Thailand.
  2. She can do it the Xi Jin Ping way: put the poverty threshold at 40 baht a day, problem solved, "you are magically lifted out of poverty". For those wondering, the poverty threshold in China is about 9 yuan ($1.25) a day.
  3. This is simply another, not well thought out (surprise), measure to bring in more Chinese tourists. And they'll pray at the local spirit house (san phra phum) that the extras don't come (Chinese crime, Chinese gangs etc.).
  4. It was confirmed on a BP post she's Chinese. The question though is why she did it, when a taxi/Grab ride would be 150-300 baht (30-60 yuan), or BTS/MRT then Red Line at a total cost of 35-70 baht (7-14 yuan). Because in China she would be detained within seconds (anything other than a car or bike/scooter is illegal in Chinese streets), while Thailand is a "free for all".
