Being a young farang in isaan, i can talk from experience.. Each big city is a tad different in its own ways, but i base myself in udon. If you ever decide to come to udon you can send me a message and I'll show you the ropes.. Enjoy!

The best option.. As i see you are staying for a month... You will get a good room hot water air con wi fi the lot on a monthly rate at about 3,500-5,000 a month less than 200 baht a day.

I don't class my self as an expert in thai, but i know a fair amount. ฝรั่ง (farang) and บักสีดา (bak see da) both mean guava, just farang is thai and bak see da is the isaan dialect.

You will here the word bak see da only from people who were brought up in either isaan or laos. Again both words don't mean to cause offence, unless used in an offensive context. Just make sure you understand the language enough before confronting them when they hadn't even said anything wrong.

Yes i would also agree with the backpackers.. Double bed, fan, on suite and a tv.. More than you expect for less that 200baht.. Last time i knew it was 150 baht that was last year, dont think the price would change too much.
