  1. Great story. Good job the moto taxi guy wasn't from England or the Swiss guy would never have got his money back.

    Really?

Pretty terrible statement there, substitute (your choice of places or peoples) and it would insult the whole world.

I am English and I have found 2 wallets in my time and returned them intact. I have lost one unknowingly , an old lady found it, in England, returned it to my bank who contacted

me, (me still not knowing that I had dropped it).

I got her details and gave her the cash that was in the wallet as a reward, and it was £160.00.

So keep your ignorant prejudices and projections to yourself, there are many decent good people in Britain, not just England.

Yes, I deserved that last comment. I had just had a beer and thought Id be a smart ass. I liked your story to.
  2. I'm only guessing but I would have thought a turnover of 10% is a bit high.

I believe when the condo managers sell a condo the commission should be going into the condo bank account not their personal account. How it's policed I wouldn't know.

If you believe the commissions go into the condo acc you must still believe in Santa. I'm not being rude but that statement just made me lol.
  3. Just found this about the ECE 22.05 motocycle helmet standard. This is the summary.

    Summary

If youre not comfortable with a helmet that only meets the US Government DOT standard, what do you look for? Historically, American riders have looked for a Snell label but the world is getting smaller and we now have other viable alternatives.

The ECE 22.05 standard is used in over 50 European countries, including Germany, a country known for taking a hard line on personal protection.

Helmets certified to the ECE 22.05 standard are approved for competition events by AMA, CCS, FIM, Formula-USA and WERA and are chosen by nearly every professional motorcycle racers competing in world championship road racing, motocross and off road events, including the ultimate sport of Moto GP.

Helmets that are certified to both DOT and ECE 22.05 offer the highest level of realistic protection with the added benefit of light weight for day-long comfort and rider performance.

REAL helmets carry both the ECE and dot rateing.

  4. I didn't think Real had a DOT rating? Least not the ones I've seen. I don't even know if they have the ECE rating. Same for Bilmola. The HJC I bought has a DOT and Snell rating. Apparently the Snell rating is the most regarded. Nice looking helmets granted but the guy in the shop told me they were built for looks not accidents! I'm in Khon Kaen and stocks / brands mainly cheapie so I was lucky to get what I could. I would have liked to look at the LS2 but couldn't find any here. I'd be careful buying online mate. I tried on a lot of helmets last 2 weeks and found size L in one brand very roomy and XL in another brand too snug. Sometimes 2 helmets, same brand and size felt different. I couldn't find anything much on foreign websites but the HJC I bought is recognised as huge bang for buck and safety in the States. Good enough for me

I just looked at the rear of my real helmet and it has a dot rateing stamp. I had a bilmola modular helmet that I used for a 6 months prior to owning the Real helmet and the bilmola was showing signs of wear on the inside within 6 months, it was also 1.8kg and the Real is 1.4kg. The Real is a better fit for my head, better double D closure. I have also have owned A shoie and Bell helmets in the past and I have to say for the price the Real helmet is a stand out. I will be replacing my helmet shortly and if I'm buying it in thailand it will be a Real.

  5. If you care about your health eating in is the best option as you can choose the quality of the ingredients. It's more expensive than street food but if you include self inflicted heath problems it's cheeper by a mile. You can't put a price on your health. In my opinion

  6. If the bike is older than 3 years you should change the brake fluid. Brake fluid will absorb water with age, under hevey braking this turns to steam and the brakes will fad then fail. When the system has cooled the brakes will work again until they are put under extreme load . Change your brake fluid as per owners manual.

  7. I did it 10 years ago and with motobike you must get a import cert (not sure if that is correct name) from Australia before the bike arrives or it will not be released. You will be up for a storage fee if this happens and it's very expensive. The document can take a month. I learnt this the hard way and couldn't collect my bikes. the fees for storage added up to the value of the bikes. If the bike is not a model sold in aus then you would be up for a fee for a compliance plate assessment. My advice is do your homework befor you send it to see if it's worth the cost.

  8. I responded to two Thai guys on a motorcycle as they rode past shouting "F^%k you Farang !"

They U-Turned and got off their bike and squared up for a fight. I was ready.

After facing off, they turned away, got on their bike and rode away... I thought that was it.

5 mins later, 6 Thai Guys rocked up and faced off to me... I saw a large Machete slung over one guys back...

    Bugger... I was in trouble...

As they approached me I gave a Wai and an apology... they seemed to shrug their shoulders, turn round, get back on their bikes and rode off...

That was that... I was very lucky... but I remember it and learned from the encounter.

More information please. Why did they shout at you to begin with. Must have been a prior altercation or incident. Personally, I've never had some random stranger I've never previously seen before shout anything at me. Maybe a group of teenagers snickering, while standing around "oh look, farang!" but that's about it. Most Thais don't even know enough English to say "<deleted>".

It's happened to me in the same way. Crossing the road , two thai guys on a bike , passenger shouts "<deleted> you farang.

So I can say for sure it does happen.

  9. just the outside of this temple is interresting, so why enter into ?

Agreed, I won't be going. What their charging isn't the issue. It's charging foreigners for every little thing they can think of that is the issue. I'd rather they just ban foreigners from going. There are enough crappy stores and services here that get my money. Not paying for any tourist attractions like this. There are many more interesting temples near this region where you can go and enjoy for free. One is close to the tea plantation. I forget the name but you can go pray in the temple, feed the cliff monkey's, paddle boat in the small pond and simply enjoy yourself along with everyone else. You spend your money on the vendors that are there that provide food, trinkets, and other hand-made items.

I am not sure you can realistically compare these two places.

  10. I think it's quite normal to lose presure in tubed motorcycle tires , best thing I did was buy a pump and a gauge this way you can keep tires topped up. If your running two up the rear should be inflated with a few extra psi. If you let the presures fall to mush the tire run hot and the tubes tend to move ,causing flats by ripping the tube at the valve. Imho

  11. Do not believe a word of what this agent tell you,

I lived in v2 for one year in 2012.

Build quality? The noise from adjoining apartments was like being in the same room. People running up and down the hall ways. Extremely loud (shouting) conversations in the halls at midnight and later.

Management? No response to noise compliants by management or security.

Management farang influence? When in Rome behave as the rommens do. When they get some influence the just use it to there own advantage. Rising prices? there was initially rise in prices when farang perchaser would jack up the price and play a waiting game. It worked for the first few year but for the last 3 year no price increases. Temporary residents? Be prepared for many different friends living next door. Some will be fine many will not.

Good luck with your purchase. You will need it. Ps I moved out and my 1 year at v2 tough me a lesson in thailand. Don't expect People to behave as you would at home . Your own kind are the ones that will have you over the easiest as you trust them. Never listen to a agent. Preditory behavior is the rule not the exception.
