You can say or write what you want....you can even travel all your life without but an Identification doc Is required by law anyway and anyy where In this world. Try to explain It to any officer when they stop you. If you don't have they will bring you directly to police station for verifications. Then Is up to you to thing, act, and proceed how you prefear, It's sure not my problem

True... especially in these modern times ... they want to know who you are and where you from and how long you staying... this is why the Thai authorities are requiring that foreigners coming to Thailand apply for and carrying a visa... it is a record of your details and they can inform your government if you are a bad person.. cant blame them with all the wanted characters roaming around Thailand and neighboring countries... with suspicious motives..

  2. A baggage fee?

    Why stop there?

    What about a passenger fee?

    A "going to the airport"-fee.

    A 'taking-you-where-you -want -to-go"- fee!

    A "pick- you-up-late-at-night"- fee?

For forks sake: you are TAXIS!

    Baggage fee mein Arsch!

The Thais are what they are... and the taxi drivers are the worst of the worst...

  3. I find it really annoying that when watching international tennis on channel 670 the General ala Prayut Napoleon the unelected self appointed PM of Thailand cuts into this pay channel and deliver a message to the nation...!!! Someone should tell him to broadcast on the local Thai public Tv channels as most of us that pay True Vision to watch INTERNATIONAL broadcasts dont care in what he has to say on a daily basis! Also please tell him that this will reduce the minuscule popularity he holds.... <deleted>!!!

  4. What I find surprising is , there have been English teachers in this country for I don't know how many years .

If the system and the teaching was on such a high standard , I would have thought that all English teachers here now would be Thai nationals.

Interesting .. how are they producing these Thai English language teachers as a Thai that graduate with from a local university cannot speak a word of English... ?

  5. Before we start this hot topic off, may I ask the OP what the 'I know Korean, Singaporeans and Malaysian Taxi drivers get more money' ... just what are their average wages?

As for directly asking about the Thai Industry.

Are you asking about a Bangkok Taxi, Udon or Ubon one, a Pattaya or Phuket one or, a rare breed a Saumi one?

Does the Taxi driver an Owner driver or a hired hand?

Does the Taxi driver rent a newer or older taxi?

... or do you just wish to generally beef about been asked for more money by a Taxi Driver ... rolleyes.gif

BTW, for the record, I've never been asked for more then the fare ... and that based on hundreds of fares, though not thousands like many here living in Thailand permanently.

    Its because they are Thai....

  6. I think the driver is totally stupid , the car is still there and I dont think it will take long time for the police to find the owner of the truck .... hard to face responsibilities , specially when you just murdered a young boy who had all his life in front of him ... sad ...

The driver made a bad move and deserves blame but the kid also made a stupid move, "traveling at a high rate of speed" apparently too fast to evade a potential problem. That's why they call it defensive driving. Sad story.

The way the Thais drive is SAD!!! It is a cultural and problem of national proportion.. safety is not part of their driving attitude .. I feel sorry for the loss of life but I am not surprised at all...

  8. The only way they will reduce traffic deaths is to get rid of every policeman and start over with training a new force about knowing the rules of the road, and enforcing the law. Have zero tolerance for taking bribes and have real fines for breaking traffic laws. Yesterday when I was riding my bike for exercise I saw 4 tour busses pass another vehicle over a double yellow line around a curve. All vehicle's coming from opposite direction had to pull off the road to allow them to pass. Also Who gave permission for tour busses to be built too high that they tip over when they make a turn too fast. Someone told the company that built these busses that it is ok. these busses did not just appear out of thin air. Thailand has a long way to go to reduce traffic deaths and Every time the government puts out a number of highway deaths it gives a different number. I looked at world highway deaths and it has Thailand # 6 at 29,000 highway deaths per year. The department of transportation must be using thai math again.

There is a better chance for Thaksin to come to Thailand then reducing road fatalities .. it will require a re-education of an entire nation...

  9. Dogs are generally a problem in Thailand... Owners do not keep them in their yard and tens of dogs are usually on the road and literally in the road all the time, especially on the smaller roads and sois..

I am a keen cyclist and frequently go for rides on secondary roads connected by sois and among the rice paddies in Pathum Thani...I have to be very careful not to collide with a soi dog that is stretched out in the road or crossing it, apparently oblivious from oncoming traffic and cyclists... After motorcycles I find dogs in Thailand one of the biggest threats to riding safely and it causes a lot of stress on some of my rides... Like so many other questions I have about Thai behavior, I always ask why keep a dog if it is not only a nuisance factor but also compromises road safety?

In the absence of a logical explanation and, taking the behavior of motorcyclists into consideration, I came to the conclusion that road safety does not rank high on the list of Thai people...What a pity....

  10. Now I am certainly not in the Thai-bashing camp; far from it. However, that number seems way too low. According to friends who graduated from uni, cheating is epidemic across the board.

I think it depends on which university and who they're friends with. (Since students probably won't risk letting everyone know that they're cheating).

Every time I suggest that there is a lot of cheating at universities my gf tells me about how strict the supervisors were and how hardly anyone cheated when she was at uni.

But having seen how the students at my high school try to cheat, I know that they're not really morally adverse to cheating. Also seeing some university graduates who REALLY don't deserve to have graduated, I'm pretty sure that some universities are very relaxed in their scrutiny of examinees (or that some universities simply have very low standards).

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Its a way of life for Thais... try to circumvent rules and regulations and try to get away with it... reflected in their behavior in society at large... driving, overcharging tourists, not complying with safety standards.. I am always amazed at the way the hordes of motorcyclists behave on the road...and their usage of the road... no helmets, no glasses, women holding small babies while navigating through traffic... it is a way of life... disregard for safety and complete and utter ignorance of the rules... how many tourists, unfortunately the majority seem to be Russian, have been killed in road accidents during the past year?

  11. Considering moving from one tourist infested, sewer, to the another....mmmmm, tough call !

Why not throw Pattaya in the mix and you have a full set.

All about personal choice, what kind of life you lead, what floats your boat and what you need, give more info you can get specific comment on the merits, or not of either.

Unfortunately those are the only 3 places in thailand which have international schools with IB programmes.

Hence my comment of "what you need" etc, you need to give more details so that people can help provide better feedback and suggestions.

I'd like to listen (or read :-) ) what other people have to say, where they live and what the like about where they live.

As said above it depends on your needs and wants... many of us would like to live in a place of our choice but you need to weigh up the practicalities of your situation / position

  12. Did you pay for mums house, she probably thinks you are going to make a claim for it.

No but the actual house was Gifted to my Wife by her mother whilst we were married. I have zero interest in the house whatsoever but sure as hell wouldn't mind my possessions back !!

Son is priority obviously. I suspect she herself might suddenly realise that marriage is marriage and she might like to remarry. In the meantime I am collating all dates of contact so as to ensure she doesn't pull the "havent seen him in years" ploy.....

It is all part of Thainess..... irrational, emotional blackmail ... all about money...
