  1. Thanks II. Those do look nice. A bit expensive though as you mentioned. I will probably head to Panda soon and check out what they have and if they have any sales on any older models in the 5,000-6,000 Baht range. As you know, I don't ride so much so just a decent boot that gives good protection is what I need. I am not so worried about it being the top of the line. I once bought a pair of boots that were Japanese made (part leather and part plastic) from Paddock. They looked very strong, were heavy, and had good protection. This was about 3 years ago and frankly they fell apart in about a year and I ended up throwing them away. Bad experience.

I am also guessing that finding stock on bigger sizes like 44 might not be so easy because I think the average foot size of riders here may be a bit smaller than mine.

it does not matter how much you ride.

if you ride, ride with proper, strong, stylish - as a bonus - gear and a daytona as i stated can be used by your grandsons after 40 years!

panda also gives 10 percent discount if you be a member.

  2. In an emergency braking situation, I would most likely be focusing on escape routes, being rear ended, getting into the right gear and a multitude of other factors. It's nice to know that the ABS will be taking care of the braking side of things.

Not unlike in management - delegating is more efficient and effective than trying to do everything yourself.

yep, totally agree. abs takes care the braking and you focus on other things like a fun ride.

in Thailand, doing everything by yourself is easier than delegating things or even from explaining people what to do!

  3. I don't know if the CBR300 has an elbow on the airbox, but the Ninja 250 and CB*500 series do. Remove it for a bit of sound and a by the butt improvement in the mid range (although that could just be a trick of the mind due to the intake draw being audible).

Actually, the system Thai Akprakovic (?).. has the screw it in type , so it is easy to R n R .. now ordering those seat cover air cushions, from the Mocy-cool set... how many times have we had a REAL hot one beneath our legs.. 5555

DAVE, What is your opinion on taking a long ride solo or with a group?

Actually, what I miss is a dirt bike... plenty of places in my neck of the chanabot..

Sorry, I apparently didn't explain myself well. The elbow (snorkel is the word I should have used) is on the air box, i.e. the part that holds your air filter. You can see it in the picture below.

    hm0713085003.gif

Now, the solo versus group ride question.

I've done both. Have many more km under my belt solo. It is the easiest way to get going if you get an urge (gotta keep it clean apparently) to satisfy your wanderlust. You also are not working around other people's schedules. Nor their personalities. You can travel at your own pace and explore as you wish.

However, you lose out on the comradeship. The chat when stopped at lights. The shared knowledge of a better route (or the best way through a poor road). You have nobody to help you should you go down. You don't have a drinking buddy at the end of the day to shoot the <self deleted> with as you nurse the road pains with a brewski. You don't have anybody who perhaps captured that nice video of you carving a corner. You can't share pictures. ETC.

In the end, a lot of times I prefer the solo ride. I'd recommend most anybody I've ridden with before to ride with; just don't follow ll2's directions (love you man...but you can't give directions worth <self deleted>). Gweiloman's great to ride with and usually brings a pillion which is nice if you ride with one, macknife has an interesting rain coat (IIRC) and keeps a really good pace, billd has a nice steady rate of riding that allows you to really see what's going on, nebula likes to follow and will match any pace (although won't watch out for your license plate falling off - no I will never let him live that down), edumdchia never does anything unexpected but his tiny fuel tank sure enforces ~hourly stops, humblejo will actually give good directions, etc.

    dave;

look bro, you made this direction thing a big fuss and i hold myself not to break your heart because you are good buddy of mine and enjoy riding and meeting with you man but it was your ride and in the morning when we meet you, you were not even aware which way we were heading and you told me to lead the group! so basically it was totally your problem that day not mine and i am sure the riders that day can say the same.

i have a pretty good direction sense but that day basically i was thinking like it was your ride and i though that you did your homework by studying the route before coming and leading us .

but no you did not and in the morning and after you lead us to the hardest rain i see that year i had to involuntary lead the group. you made us wet in the middle of nowhere and it was cold too which again you dont have an idea of and again wanted me to lead the group.

so, man, if i was planning that ride, i lead people nicely and do not drag them to the middle of f////in nowhere in the dark until we got wet like rats or sick from our balls:) which i am sure you remember i told you not going from that route and go directly to Bangkok as i was seeing the rain coming hard.

please do not try to push your disorganization from that ride to me bro:)

dont get me angry bro, just wanted to clear. it is the friends criticizing us the best.

  4. Check out the Daytona line at Panda- great boots, though a bit pricey.

just about the say the same, you were faster than me.

TCX boots are not very cheaper than Daytona boots in Thailand and Daytona boots are much more better quality and leather.

    check panda rider.

I was about to buy that as it was last in the stock an old model and they were giving it for 6000 thb something but did not like a stupid that day and it was finished next time.

now it is 12 k thb:( i think best quality boots and leather that i see and hand made in Germany. you can hand a pair to your grandson when you are old enough to ride!

  5. get a honda cb1100 instead for 600 k from bigwing and its the deluxe version which is 400 k in USA.

have abs and although yamaha looks good, i do not like the fact that they modified it before selling it.

The CB1100 will go down in price middle of this year.

Somehow I like the look of the XJR1300 more, personal preferences and all that.

What do you mean they modified it before selling it?

i mean they put a couple of mods like a number plate in the middle, a new seat etc and it looks like someone elses modified bike.

cb1100 is plainer so open more for the individual modifications.

  6. if it is a 1500 - 2000 thb accident, dont waste time and if you think you are faulty negotiate on the spot and pay and go. less hassle. but while handing the money, take a shot as an evidence.

if it is not your fault, wait until police and insurance guys arrive and move your bike when the police tells you to move it. photos might work too. dont forget the take a Photos of the licence plate of the other vehicle.

but best again should be negotiating with the other faulty vehicle and getting your possible expenses in cash right on the spot. Most Thai people do this way and negotiate on the spot as if insurance comes and records the incident, faulty part will start to pay more insurance premiums and if they are drunk etc police can also create problems or basically they dont want to waste their time like you but do not remove your bike until you get the money!

if you are unconscious not much to do as anyway you are unconscious and have more important things to think more than your bike like your life but they also check the cameras around if needed.

  7. Some bikes are used now and again as track bike and as daily ride too, they are wearing out faster when on track as already mentioned.

So when buying a used bike, not easy to check, one famous poster here had his bike trucked home after such a track day, no way will I buy his bike, I am not mentioning any nameswhistling.gifwink.png

I prefer buying a new bike, which I did in Jan this year and will likely keep it for min 5 years or thereabouts.

Overhauling a complicated sports bike engine is tricky, I don't think many in Thailand can do it to be frank, perhaps it's better to just buy a new engine when its worn out but don't know how much % wise of the bikes value it is?

Could you give us a hint as to the bike in question? rolleyes.gif

I think it was a Honda 650 with shiny red aftermarket bits on it.

Hahahahahaha. I remember now. The trucking episode was only the one incident though.

what was the second one? man people remember my life better than me sometime! hahahsss. maybe my brain is getting old.

and guzzi, anyway i trade in my bike and if i sell individually, i be honest still no problems with my bike. it was just some concrete stuck to my radiator while passing from a metro construction site. it is cleaned and it runs like a champ still.

1/4 of the bikes at track days get problems.

  8. According to the Bangkok Post 24/2/2015.

Police permission is required for group rides.

    Plus other restrictions ?

it is required for big groups but never seen a police guy asked this in my riding life here.

so, it is not necessary for trip to Bang Saen.

Your riding life may have been attitude adjusted on 22/05/2014.

lets wait and see then. not wearing a helmet is also illegal here no? like many rules that are illegal but legal at the same time. i call it semi legal!

most probably it is for harley groups that clog all the lanes of a highway and creating problems for other vehicles.

i dont think so they create problems for 10 guys running along Bang Na Trat for 100 km to Bang Saen,

Moreover, after every red light, it is like a group in Thailand ride as 'papa' stated before! so how they can differentiate?

if we ride 1 km distance to each other, is it still a group ride? if i ride with my friend to Bang Saen two riders, is it still a group ride?

not clear IMO so attitude adjustment is going to harley guys it looks like.

But i see your concern Anthony as clearly it is a way to make us better money cows and a reason for police to stop us and abuse us.

  9. that is nonsense to say abs is killing the brake feel. abs is not a robotic system that brakes for you. it just applies the braking pressure on and off when the sensors send signals stating that tire/tires are skidding.

abs comes in effect when the tire is skidding and as it is a hydraulic system, it does not matter much if there is an extra length of hoses on ABS system as long as it is not 10 meters of extra length especially if they are braided steel lines.

also it is plain misleading to say ABS does not prevent accidents! so all those engineers, regulators and inventors of ABS are stupid then to create such a system and spend billions on it? i dont think so someone with respect for human life and fellow riders can say that allegedly.

i use a bike with ABS system now and brakes gives me great modulation and feedback.

only setback of an ABS system is longer braking distance if it comes on during hard braking but that is only if the tires skid.

if you know how to brake with a non abs system and use your abs brakes accordingly, an abs system stops at the same distance if you dont activate the ABS.

only on the track i can say a conventional abs system might be limiting as you slide there etc but then makers create race abs systems and put them on their expensive track monsters and they dont limit the bike, or basically you have an on/off switch so you can keep the ABS off.

ll2, I believe that mania is making the point that they definitely kill the feel at the instance where they start intervening. Which is at the ragged edge where a really good rider is at. Not on the street going to 7-11 level.

Or perhaps I misunderstood his posts.

Myth: ABS modulates system pressure whenever you apply the brakes.

A lot of the rider bias against ABS is that the system is always active, modulating your brakes in all stopping instances and thereby affecting the riding experience. On the contrary, ABS only kicks in to prevent wheel lockup, such as during panic-stop situations or when you encounter black ice.

At other times, such as during typical controlled stops or slowing for corners, ABS does not affect how the brakes work.

ABS comes into the play when the tire is skidding not when you apply the brakes. If it is a system that controls all braking when you apply the brakes, it has to be a lot more expensive system.

there is a good article regarding myths about ABS here:

  11. versys?

it looks like it is the child of a deviant love between a horse and a xerox machinebiggrin.png

cb650f looks cool IMO and lets say much more better than a versys.

also for fun factor, it is in the eye of beholder. a good rider can have a lot of fun even on a honda wave.

I fell just opposite you, don't like the look of the cbr650 too much but like my V 2015 very much both in looks and riding position and fun all around ride.

    Sue me if you wantwink.png

well looks like OP wants a sportier ride so the V is likely not a bike for him but perfect for an old bastard like me.

    dont get it wrong guzzi!

new versys looks great i think and kawa did a good job this time. It looks sometime better than multistrada at some rare angles imo.

i was talking about the xerox/horse version of versys, the old onebiggrin.png

    ll2,

That's it loser. You've overstepped the line here.

My Versys is taking legal advice as we speak for defaming his heritage. His dad's a Canon and mum's a donkey (not your insulting Xerox/horse mix)

    Stay tuned.

Oh, and take care out there....whistling.gif

hahass, i am sure you are also looking for me around Bangkok to beat my a...s....s?

  13. @bealus

I looked back at your OP but you don't state the sort of riding that you like.

Are you planning on using the bike as a daily commuter? Or for weekend blasts? Or long distance touring?

My view is that the best fit for the above three scenarios are three completely different bikes (Honda, either model, Z800, Versys).

Is fuel consumption an issue? My guess is that the Z800 would be the thirstiest with the Versys and Honda being same same.

Is ABS important? The Z800 is sans ABS.

Head turn factor. Honda will have to come in last (forget about what our resident fanboy ll2 says). Most non bikers (and more importantly girls) would not know the difference between a CBR 150 and a CB650F. A Versys decked out with driving HID lights, Barkbusters, engine guards etc is as macho as it gets (unless you start getting into Multistrada territory).

  14. So track day boys, which of these two bikes handles the track better and sets the faster times? I'm interested to know if the more sporty 650 beats the naked Z800.

lighter bikes have some advantages on a track.

i never rode z800 on a track but for a new rider on a track, cbr650f is better.

  15. nice!

still i say cb650f. it looks better too. believe me, the sharp alien design of kawa z800 will age fast and 1 - 2 years later, it will look old and boring

cb650f will stay fresh long time as it has a mature and handsome design - although reminds me a donkey at some angles:)

  16. I would never wear this at high speeds, if you go down it would be torn to shreds. I've always though it's for trail riders to help absorb impact only at low speeds.

How do you know it would be torn to shreds? Alot of accidents are caused by hitting cars, where you fly off etc rather than long slides on roads.

It's got to be better than no armour and a jacket isn't practical in Thailand.

    macknife says the truth.

these things will tear apart like a toilet paper even on a slight slide.

even strong textiles or leather tear apart on an accident and this has no chance. common way is, you wear this inside a jacket ideally leather with no protection. then it is double hot.

off road riders use them as their accidents are slower and not on the asphalt.

i also wonder, when this thread will get closed? if it will be closed, dont want to bother on posting more.

  17. The OP of the other thread was not asking any questions, just sharing readily available information (just google trail braking) - About 696,000 results (0.32 seconds)

I think the mods closed the thread as it has ran it's course and became no more than a self glorifying outlet for a couple of posters.

I'm thinking of starting the following topics:

    - How to start a bike with an electric starter

    - How to start a bike without an electric starter

    - How to make a right handed U turn

    - How to make a left handed U turn

(the above two might get a bit controversial though)

    - How to fill up with petrol

    - How to put up the kickstand

    - How to use a paddock stand

    - How to tie your shoelaces (so that it won't get caught on any levers)

List is endless. So much to do, so little time.........

i dont know why the closed the other thread and i dont care.

i just could not get enough answers to satisfy me in terms of information.

  18. Just saw the Thai R1 price through an importer (ZeuZ SuperBike Performance)- they've just started taking orders (they have a garage in BKK that does service and repairs on all the bikes they sell):

    R1- 939,000

    R1M- 1,549,000

939 k thb is no bad!

wonder how much yamaha will ask? possibly more?
