  1. Did you realize watching the pic of the sticker that it's totally new for graphic and colors? And there's no more the price written on the sticker.

I was very surprised too when my friend showed me her passport because I never heard of a METV with 3 months validity and the cost (+ show of 600 euro minimum in the bank) of a normal SETV.

The point of my post is just to know if somebody has any knowledge about it and maybe in the future we'll see an official statement from the MFA and/or Thai Immigration  about it.

Maybe in the future there will be only METV with 3 and 6 months validity issued only in your home country.

  2. A friend has just arrived from Italy and she showed me her passport with a brand new METV with 3 months validity from the date of issue.

It costs 30 euro + show a bank statement with minimum 600 euro and that's it.

I've never heard and seen a METV like that and it was issued at the Thai consulate in Milan. The sticker has also a new graphic and colors.

So it seems that the old SETV doesn't exist anymore at least in the Thai Consulate of Milan, replaced by this new 3 months validity METV which it allows up to 6 months if maximised.

In attachment the pics of the sticker and stamp from IO at BKK airport.

It would be interesting if other Thai Consulates issue this new kind visa too and if somebody has already knowledge of it.

  3. I just came back from Penang. Its' true, no more same day service: so apply in the morning and collect the passport the afternoon of the next day.

BUT there could be the chance to have an "Express service" which costs an additional 200 RM (2.000 baht) in order to get the passport back at noon of the next day and to catch the Firefly flight to Samui (this in case u fly on Tuesday and back on Thursday). But depending on the agent this "Express service" is not 100% guaranteed and in case it won't work u will get the 200 RM back and the passport only few hours later (when the plane is already in Samui).

So if u decide to buy a return air ticket Samui-Penang now it's better to spend at least 4 nights in Penang.

  4. I just checked the Penang Thai Consulate website and there's no mention of any change from November 1, as the OP said.

The last Notice about Visa Service Hours is dated 12 March 2014 and it states that for Transit and Tourist Visa is a same day service. That's the link of the Notice: http://www.thaiembassy.org/penang/contents/files/news-20140312-140619-382939.pdf

Ah, but it doesn't say they will charge you almost double the fee for 'same day service' now, does it.

The tourist visa price is the same plus the usual commission for the agent, so there's no change. It's the agent's commission for having a NON-B on the same day that is quite expensive...

  5. “Kongdom” instead of “Kingdom”

Looking through the various hand stamps I've received from immigrations over the years, none of the have the word "kingdom" written in English on them, although the visas do. Is this something unique to extension stamps from Samui?

I reckon all the stamps used for the Tourist Visa extension have the same english sentence and the word "Kingdom" is in it.

The question is that now the Samui Immigration Office is issuing a stamp with the same usual sentence written on it, but with these 2 spelling errors. Few months ago their stamp was 100% spelling correct.

I started this thread because a person had to follow the Immigration officer in the office at Suvarnabhumi airport for an accurate check of the stamp. She had no problem because she still had the 1900 baht payment receipt, but not all the people keep it.

So I hope the Samui Immigration Office will realize that it has to replace this spelling wrong stamp as soon as possible.

Is this in the standard Thai Immigration 1900 baht stamp or the 'unique' Samui Immigration 5000 baht stamp?

It's the 1900 standard one, but each Immigration Office has its own location name on top of the stamp.

  7. I heard of a person got stuck for a while at Suvarnabhumi Airport because the Immigration Officer there thought the extension stamp of her Tourist Visa was fake. Actually there are 2 mistakes in the stamp: “Kongdom” instead of “Kingdom” and “singed” instead of “signed”. You can check it out if you have any recently issued. Luckily this person had still the 1900 baht payment receipt issued by the Samui Immigration Office, but she was told to keep it in case she wants to apply for a new Tourist Visa in the future. Hopefully the Samui Immigration Office will replace this spelling wrong stamp as soon as possible.

  8. O use a metro bank card(no charges) with an Aeon machine ,these have a 20 000 baht limit ,but the card provider will only allow 300 pounds a day ,15000 baht at the moment ,i tried to get it raised but they wont ,its their rule abroad. nothing to do with the banks here.

My european bank still allows me to withdraw every day up to my daily limit (500 euro = 20.000 baht). The point is that now I can withdraw 20.000 baht only after 2 transactions (10.000 + 10.000, back to back). For years, using the same card, I was able to get 20.000 baht in just one transaction. That's why I think it's the Thai Bank who decided this change.

P.S. And the ATM fee to the Thai bank is now 180 baht, until my previous withdraw on last April was still 150 baht....

  9. It has nothing to do with the Thai Banks or with Scams etc etc

this is an excerpt from a Dutch Bank a friend send me (Translated from Dutch to English)

    ATMs abroad:

At ATMs abroad you can withdraw up to € 500, standard. But beware, this amount may differ by country or by bank. ABN AMRO has no effect on these differences. Do you withdraw money in countries outside Europe? Then you can withdraw up - to € 300, This limited limit applies only to ATMs that are not suitable for the new way of pins. This unfortunately you can not see from the outside of the ATM. With the reduced limit, we can better protect against fraud abroad.

    Source: https://www.abnamro.nl/nl/prive/betalen/betaalpas/kenmerken.html

But up to 300 Euros is almost 13K baht, not the 10K baht limit some folks are seeing. I expect the local Thai bank is behind the 10K baht limit.

I agree. My last withdraw before I noticed this new limit was in last April and it was no problem to withdraw more than 10.000 baht in a single transaction. So, I reckon it's the Thai bank who introduced this 10.000 baht limit for a single transaction....and of course also my european bank is glad to get more fee... :whistling:
