  1. 90 day reports are in Phuket. I think they allow this because I was doing it here prior to my Bangkok work permit.

I am a bit concerned with Bangkok immigration looking highly confused about self certification...

Thanks for your help as always.

Perhaps UJ can assist here .

If you are making 90 day reports in Phuket then you must have already secured an extension of stay in Phuket.

That would have required a work permit.

    Perhaps I am missing something?

Extension always done in BKK. 90 days always done in Phuket. Work permit issued in BKK

  2. i am confused,

She will need the marriage certificate certified by the Chinese embassy. If they will not certify it she can do self certification by doing an affidavit that it is true and correct.

The the self certification if needed and your marriage certificate will need to be translated to Thai and the translations be certified by the Ministry of Foreign affairs. Most translation services can get the MFA certification done for you.

ur saying a marriage certificate for 2 non thais married out of Thailand needs to be translated and certified for his wife piggy back( as a dependent) on his retirement extension?

    PHUKET

My good friend is married to an Australian, he is Canadian. They were married in HK

All they have ever shown is the English marriage certificate and she gets her dependent extension on to his retirement extension for the last 7 years.

They last did this 3 weeks ago.

A marriage certificate will only be accepted if in Thai or English.

It would seem the OP's marriage cert is CHINESE!

Marriage Cert is in Chinese. Correct.

  3. Hi Ubonjoe,

I am in a similar situation. My wife and I are both non-Thai and were married in China. Neither of us are Chinese either.

We have a Chinese marriage certificate which I assume from this thread we will need to translate into Thai, self certify and then have certified by the ministry of foreign affairs. I obviously do not want to go back to China to do this. Is this the correct procedure? And will this suffice for obtaining an extension based on marriage to myself who is on an extension based on work permit?

This will be based on Bangkok immigration rules. Since my work permit was issued in Bangkok, we have been told by Phuket immigration that they cannot issue an extension if the original extension was done in BKK. Is this correct?

  4. I think every family has different reasons. For many, the parent is on a visa whereby they have to leave every 90 days and do not wish to take the child with them.

For me personally, I have 3 kids. 1 is on an Ed visa so no overstay. 1 who's passport expired midway through her 1 year Ed visa and renewing through the school was just too complicated to explain to them. For my last kid, I did a change of visa status combined with a business trip and taking my child with me was just not possible. He was on a dependent visa.

  5. For anyone doing their first renewal (1 yr to 5 yr) a medical certificate IS required. There is a clinic opposite Robinsons that will give you the certificate for 100THB without having to even see a doctor :)

Also, no video and the only test required is the colour blind test.

I was told that for renewals, you can be there anytime before 3pm.

  6. I for one think it's a GREAT idea. Being a father of three young kids living on the island, we will often travel long distances to find activities for the kids. Our restaurant trips consist of the same circuit of places based on if they have a kids play area (Amalfi), swimming pool (Shanti Lodge, Friendship) or at the very least a safe area for the kids to play.

We live in the South but if this restaurant idea worked out, it would definitely be added to our circuit of restaurants. Animals, bouncy castles and pedalows would be heaven for my kids! Kid friendly restaurants with staff to keep an eye on the kids are definitely missing here. We used to live in Shanghai and there were a number of places that had this service. It allows parents to have some much needed time to relax on the weekends.

In any case, I say go for it. Of course you'll need to work out your security issues with the lake and you will no doubt find that some non-parents will be put off, but I think there will be more than enough families to compensate.

My suggestion would be why try to compete on a local thai level? Why not try to go for a more premium crowd (both thai and farang) this way you can charge a bit more and offer a better service. Plenty of families on the island would pay the extra for the kids facilities.

There's a lot of conflicting advise so far on this thread about your idea but coming from someone who would basically be your ideal customer, my family and my group of friends would very much welcome your new project. I do also happen to have more than a decade of F&B experience as well as a similar idea to yours in my head. Just too busy right now to execute it!

    Good luck.

  7. I'm looking for a walk-in fridge to either rent or share with someone who has excess space in theirs. I need about 1-2 square metres of space with temp of 1-10 degrees C. Prefer southern part of the island but will consider anywhere. Long or short term but need urgently.

With low season upon us, and many restaurants closing and businesses slowing down, perhaps someone with a restaurant, hotel or fresh food business may want to make some extra cash?

Any leads would be much appreciated.

  8. I'm looking for the cheapest way to transfer funds from UK to Thailand. Amount is roughly 200k GBP. Are you still able to obtain a TT3 form using a currency broker such as fxcompared? What about using the same kind of broker to transfer funds out of Thailand, will you need the TT3?

If the currency broker option is not viable, what is the next best option? Someone recommended opening a Bangkok bank account and transferring funds over in GBP.

    Any other suggestions?

Seems TT3 has been replaced by FET form

  9. Yes, was shortened because of the passport expiration. Didn't realise at the time of doing the extension that it was ending so soon.

The school is a local school and not very up-to-date with these kind of things. It was hard enough getting the original documents for the first extension. Do you know if they only need documents they can make in-house or do they need another letter from MOE?

    Thanks ubonjoe
