  1. Asanee,

Thanks for the very informative reply, just the information that I was seeking. So I guess when booking, go for the cheapest and allow extra time in Singapore for a forward connection, in case of a cancellation, or delay from the Bangkok flight.

    Thanks,

  2. I would appreciate some thoughts on members experience with Budget airlines, particularly the service from Singapore to Bangkok.

Which airline is dependable, not just for leaving on time but for leaving at all, where I have heard that if the flight is only half full then they cancel it and put everyone on the

next available, or cancel for the day.

    Thoughts please.

    Thanks,

  3. After reading all the posts on this V.O.A for Myanmar, I have come to the conclusion that it is best to go to the Myanmar embassy in your country of origin and get a pre-approved Visa from them before doing anything.

That there is no such thing as getting off the plane fronting up to a booth with money, photos and signed form in your hands, that just isn't going to cut it.

  4. When travelling I do the following:

    - check Agoda and/or Wotif for hotels that I reckon I might like, pick some in the same area, ones that have plenty of vacancies

    - Once at destination, get taxi to the first hotel of choice, go to receiption and ask for "off the street" rate.

    - Get price from reception and ask for best rate.

    - If they won't beat the Agoda, or the Wotif rate, go outside get on the internet and book through Agoda, or Wotif.

    - I do this because nine times out of ten they will beat the rate of the internet and give you a good room because you are dealing with them direct.

    Cheers,

  5. We were having dinner in a restaurant last night in Kamala, I was half way through beautiful seafood salad when three people, one playing a guitar and attempting to sing, thrust a tin in my face wanting a donation for the children in the Philipines, so I politely told them no that I was having dinner.

A couple of hours later whilst having the compulsory red wine before going to bed in a different place,
they pulled the same act, just walked up to our table and put the cup on the table asking for money.

I did apologise to rest of the diners for the language I used at them, I don't know how to tell someone politely to xxxxx off and get out of my face while I am out having dinner. Unlike back in Aussie when the telemarketers call and I tell them to hang on while I go and get my credit card, then return an hour later and put the phone back in the cradle.

    The joys of it all.

  6. Thanks Buckeye, I really am trying to narrow my search down to a few areas, I have also been told that there is a lot of properties not with agents, savings on commissions etc. So I guess it is hire a car and go and look.

    Cheers mate,

  7. Some advice from the Forumites please:-

In looking for somewhere to get a long term rental in Phuket what areas should I just not look at, considering the following:

    - Am interested in somewhere near the beach.

    - Am over the bar scene, so if there is no access to Patong, no problem.

    - Just the two of us, no children to worry about schools etc.

    - One, or two bedroom place, am flexible.

Thanks for any ideas that will have us not going round in circles, only to find out we were looking in the wrong area.

    Cheers,
