  1. That offer isn't worth it in Bangkok, not with the added restriction of having to stay within the school/buildings throughout the entire day. You didn't mention the contact hours, but I'm assume they're either normal (18-22) or high( 23+), and with the mentioned "5 days holiday per year", are they then not going to give you holidays during the October & Summer holidays? If so, you're missing out on 2 1/2 - 3 months of holidays.

Most of the jobs which I've seen advertised in Isaan pay the same, or more, than what that job does (I'm unsure about how fussy they'd be re: degrees though). Most of these schools would also allow for a much more relaxed working environment (less professional, but more relaxed), in an area with a much lower cost of living. But of course, if you like Bangkok, then it's each to their own, but I'd figure schools in Bangkok should pay more.

    Awesome, a real response!!

Yes, they are giving me the Thai holidays off.. Paid. Which I think is a pretty good benefit considering I dont have a degree, my other friends without degrees are not getting the long holidays as paid time off. The 5 days I mentioned are my personal vacation days. They said when this contract is over in a few months, at the end of this school year, my salary would be much higher on the next contract.

Teaching hours would be around 20-22 (they said it would be around 22 50 minute classes per week).

I agree though, I thought the salary is quite low. I think I should find out if its negotiable... I was telling my girlfriend I know someone in Isaan without a degree making 35k, and tons of others in Chiang Mai (where I used to live) making 30-40k without degrees. I think I'll tell them I'll take 40 or I'll take my talents elsewhere. I'm not really in dire need of a job right now.

  2. I am 100% aware of the visa situation going on in Thailand. I have been here for 2 years, just new to Bangkok. I am only asking about the job offer.

Sure, but the terms of the job offer (as there is no work permit) mean that you'll be working in Thailand illegally, should you accept the job. And all you're worried about is the salary!

This job offer only sets you up to potentially being a criminal - probably not the wisest career move.

I wish you the best of luck.

I am aware.... I am also aware than 90% of all the other English teachers here, as well as internet workers and restaurant owners are also illegal...

And yes, this school is one of the top international schools in Thailand. Not joking here or making things up... My GF has a family member who holds a high position in the school.

  3. Haha, are you serious, or joking?

I'm a good looking guy man (obviously a sucker as well for responding haha).

I was trying to see if someone is going to a night club... Music, drinking, dancing, chat with girls. More of my style than the whole Soi Cowboy type thing.

  4. I'm new in Bangkok, just moved here from Chiang Mai.... Dont really know my way around.. at all.

I'm 29 years old, just wondering if anyone around my age is going to hit a club tonight, maybe we could meet up. I make an awesome wing man and like to party haha.

  5. A little about myself, I am young, professional looking, tall, athletic build, blonde hair.... No degree. (I shouldnt have to mention this, but I do at the same time).

The school, who I wont mention, is one of the best, most recognized international schools in Thailand, with many, huge campuses.

Working hours are 7:30-4, teaching English around 25 hours per week. Free lunch, have to be in the building at all times.

No work permit (since I have no degree).

Salary is 30,000 baht, 5 paid vacation days a year, and I get all the holidays.

Is this a good offer for me? I was honestly expecting more... Especially since this is Bangkok... Especially after seeing some of the other farang teachers.

I also know I can make 30,000 outside of Bangkok, so I feel like the salary should be much higher here. They offer 35,000 starting for degree holders.

Should I take it? Should I ask for more money? Should I hold out for a higher paying job?

I would just like to hear some opinions.

If ive forgotten to mention anything here, just mention it and I will fill in more details.

  6. Hey, just looking for a little advice here. My parents and I are going to make an over night trip to Mae Sai and Tachileik.... My plan is to buy the pass to cross the boarder for 500 baht... then spend the night there in Tachileik. Can you stay a night with the 500 baht visa?

Also, I tried to look up places to stay in Tachileik but cant find anything on the internet. Anyone have any recommendations?

    Thank you.

  7. Well teaching would be my job... but I want to keep my lifestyle. I want to move because Ive been here more than a year, its great, Ive had/have fun here... But I'm obviously not teaching in Asia for the money... Is anyone? I'm here to travel.... And this is part of my research before I make a big move with the next year of my life. I'm just information gathering.... Teaching is teaching.... I can adapt to this very easily anywhere in Asia. Its the lifestyle that will very. If I can live a good life and have fun in China, I will go. If people come on here and tell me how awful China is, how the girls hate white guys, how there is no party scene, how the food is awful, how the accommodation is awful... I wont go. Maybe I'll move my search to Vietnam, Cambodia, Burma... Thailand is my first Asian experience... And I love it.

  8. What do they mean "Most famous festival in Chiang Mai"....

Also, how do you even answer this question? What is the correct answer?

That is like asking an America what is the most famous holiday in America.

Or asking a tourist in America what is the most famous holiday... If its Christmas time they will say Christmas, if its Easter, they will say Easter... 4th of July, the same...

Seems like really pointless content and a waste of time... They could have come up with much more interesting question for the poll.

I also agree... 15000-30,000 baht per day is quite high, I HIGHLY doubt it. I would say less than 10% are spending that... You would have to be in a 5 star hotel, which there isnt many around, eat at the 5 star hotel restaurants, drink wine, rent a car, and do karaoke every day here to spend that much money. I bet most people are in the 5000 baht range... 500-1000 baht guest house, 300 baht food, 300-1000 baht alcohol, 500 baht shopping.

  9. What I'm really looking for is fun... I love it here in Chiang Mai. I like the party scene, I like the town, I like my friends, I like the girls.... But I'm adventurous... I want to see the world you know? So I basically want this same life style.... I want a good party scene, cool people... And, most importantly, hot girls who are interested in me.... I'm not wanting to move to China to get rich... I just want to maintain a lifestyle.... I want to be able to go party 2 or 3 times a week, live in a decent place, and eat decent food when I want.

  10. So you were making 41,000 and that was low end??? That is quite shocking for me... From the forums Ive read about working as a teacher in China.... Most people are quite happy with 12,000... And Ive never actually read of anyone making over 25,000, that would be EXTREMELY well qualified. This is why I was in the belief that 12,000 was quite good.... A lot of people I see post salaries of around 9,000 or 10,000 and are happy. I'll have to do more research for sure!

  11. Ive got a job offer in China for 12,000 RMB(?) per month in a big city... Im a pretty young guy, I enjoy my free time at clubs and chasing women.... Currently in Chiang Mai. Just wondering if its just as fun in China? I really love the clubs here in Chiang Mai, live bands, everyone just having a good time, really chill, and of course, most girls are very approachable. Ive been searching the web but cant find much info. The job is great, just around 50 working hours per month, the salary is also quite high.... But, like most of you, were not teaching in Thailand because of the money.... Its our way of living here. What do you guys think? The location is Shenzhen.

  12. Hi, I'm American living in Chiang Mai.... Whats my best bet on getting a visa to Vietnam? My Thai tourist visa is expiring at the end of this month, I plan on flying out around the 25th or so and want to try something new (been to Burma and Laos).

There is an AirAsia flight from here to Saigon that I plan on doing, so applying for the visa at the Viatnam embassy in Bangkok isnt really an option for me.

Is there a company in Chiang Mai who can get me the visa? Should I use the online service as mentioned above? Thanks for the advice.

  13. Clearly the OP is more concerned about ambiance and presentation that good grub.

I should have made myself more clear when I said it blew my expectations away. The atmosphere was great, the food taste was great, the presentation was great. This was fine dining at its best for 10 dollars. If you see/eat the food there you will be shocked that you are only spending 10 dollars. Its one of the best Italian restaurants Ive ever been to, including in Italy.

  14. I ate at Puccini twice last week next to the celebrity shower massage (the reason I started the topic) and the food was really fantastic. Blew my expectations away when I saw the prices on the menu. The pizza was perfect if you like thin crust (and I am picky) and the ravioli was perfect. Its actually run by some American kid. Its a good place to check out.

  15. If 14 million dollars is pocket change, then why would you look for a house in Thailand, especially Chiang Mai.... Seems like the risk is much greater than the reward.... I assume most people who consider 14 mil as pocket change would stay in first world countries where you dont have to worry about being randomly killed in the streets, robbed by your Thai wife... or the million other issues that come with being a farang in Thailand. Thailand is a vacation place for these people, not somewhere they retire.

I think for 500 mil baht (what Ive heard the asking price is) his only market will be Thais from Bangkok or rich Thais abroad (if there is such a thing) I really cant see a farang dropping 14 mil dollars on this place... Just seems EXTREMELY stupid.

  16. My first time in Thailand, I saw this place today. Can someone tell em what its all about? What do I do, just walk in and pick a girl or 2? What is the price? I'm really looking for someone to just write me an instruction guide for a place like this. I have no clue, but it sounds like it might be fun...
