Anyone who believes that they are insured while driving on
counterfeit/ fake license plates probably believes they are covered
by in insurance if driving without a license or DUI as well
Up to the insurance company if they pay your claim or not but they
    don't have to
personally I would want a letter from the insurance company saying
I am covered and not believe what I am told by a insurance company
    salesperson thumbsup.gif

Still continuing with the BS are you?

I have that letter, or better had it since it was some time ago, so stop insulting people and making stupid remarks, showing your ignorance on the subject.

I will catch up with you when I can and you can show me the letter

You are a very hard person to catch up to, I will check your shop more often

It will also give you the opportunity to call me names to my face

Sell insurance now do you, I though you had to be Thai to do it from a shop front

I know of one person who thinks you are Thai, but your not you are Dutch

If you pass by, please do not stop.

Again, please stop the BS here.

    See you soon,thumbsup.gif

  2. If you can afford it, buy a Ford.

My mechanic friend says Ford is most expensive truck to maintain.

I have owned 2 in Thailand and thats not true. In fact they are cheaper than the others to maintain. Also most parts OEM are cheaper in case of an accident.

My first Ford pick up 400,000 kms without any repairs, 2nd pick up now on +/- 260,000 with no repairs.

    Try that with a Toyota.

The 3 best vehicles I have ever owned in my life have all been Toyotas. I am interested in the comments about high maintenance costs in Toyota v/s Fords ??? and other brands, because I am not sure what mileage can be expected from these small high revving diesel motors of current pickups. What I have been warned about is hard riding in the Fords next to Toyotas. An ex Toyota owner bought a new Ford & is disappointed in the hard ride. We have a 3 year old 2WD 4 door Vigo and we consider the ride and handling of our Vigo to be extremely car-like & very comfortable, unlike a comment above. We are thinking of changing to an auto as my wife has a bad left knee & any traffic driving gets to her. Any considered comments from unbiased owners would certainly be helpful to us in a few months when we make our move.

High revving, the current ford ranger auto changes into top gear at 90 KPH

and is doing 1600 RPM at that speed, at 125 KPH it is dong about 2200 RPM in top gear

    Not really high revs

  3. Why do you think that all dealers use fake/counterfeit license plates? There might be some dodgy dealer doing this but it is clearly illegal. If you go to any normal car dealer, they will provide you with official government issued red license plates and you are right it is the dealer that has to pay for those temporary plates.
No problem at all my view, neither with insurance nor with car ownership. So not sure what your point is. You worried that in this case the red license plates are fake? Car registration is fake? Insurance paper is fake?

Dealers do have real license plates of coarse they do, but when the govt was giving rebates to first time

car buyers they did not have enough sets of real red plates

To fix this problem they had counterfeit plates made which they did not have to pay road tax on

Not all dealers use counterfeit plates but a lot do, if the red plates do not have a small symbol on

them they are counterfeit, go ask a dealer to show you the difference between real and counterfeit

plates, most will have both but may not be able to show you a real set because they are being used

Also with the real plates you get a govt license book with the plates which you pay a 2000 baht deposit on

The deposit is returned to you when you take the plates back

Have you ever bought a new car in Thailand, I have twice so far, both times they tried to issue me with

fake plates which I would not except, same as not excepting fake bank notes, some people might

  5. Red license plates are not fake or counterfeit. They are issued by the government as temporary license plates to garages as it takes the government 2-3 months to issue the white license plates. Nothing wrong here.

Wrong the fake/counterfeit plates used by dealers are not registered and no tax is paid on them

They also do not have the license book you fill out that comes with real government issued red plates

The real red plates have annual fees the same as black and white plates

Counterfeit license plates are as legal as counterfeit bank notes coffee1.gif

  6. If you cannot find a item anywhere else you will probably be able

to purchase it at the main supercheap store and at a better price

than other supermarkets, you may have a problem locating the item

in the store but its usually there

  8. on the plus side = in 7 months time your car will be registered as a 2015 car...

would worry if paid in cash = The dealer went out of business/vanished

Bikes are register as of date of manufacture on their ID plate
cars etc would be the same
Same in other countries for first registration of new vehicles
Anything manufactured in 1995 is registered as a 1995 model
I think you would have to be joking but some people may believe you

Sorry cannot work that one out....

So you buy a brand new car/Truck today, the Blue Book will show [background=#f7fbfc]date of manufacture ?[/background]

[background=#f7fbfc]So if the [/background][background=#f7fbfc]date of manufacture was 2011 the blue book would registered it as 2011 ? not as brand new [as it is] 2014 ?  How could you drive it on red plates even one day if it is 2 or 3 years old ?[/background]

[background=#f7fbfc]There as still some Brand New cars and Trucks in showrooms now, and new models have been out a year or 2, a friend bought a Brand New D-Max at the beginning of the year and the Blue book 100% shows it as a 2014 D-Max, yet [/background][background=#f7fbfc]manufactured early 2012 and old model !![/background]

[background=#f7fbfc]As for '[/background][background=#f7fbfc]Same in other countries for first registration of new vehicles'  sorry also not so, you can and I have done so bought a new car where the showroom has kept the car for weeks/months and [/background][background=#f7fbfc]registered[/background][background=#f7fbfc] it 2 Jan, the Log book showed it as Jan that new year.[/background]

[background=#f7fbfc]Likewise have seen myself here car 2010 + Blue book shows as 2010, yet I know the model changed or had a face-lift in 2007, only way is looking at the [/background][background=#f7fbfc]manufacture date to find it is a 2002 and imported. but still the Blue book says it is a 2010 car.[/background]
Bought 2 wave motorbikes here at different times, both were manufactured the year before they were purchased and licensed as that year model
In western Australia vehicle manufacturing date stamped on the vehicle ID plate is the year of manufacture the same as the motorbikes purchased here
Would some official register it as a later model here if given a incentive, quite possible
  9. Thanks guys. Very useful information. We will try another dealer tomorrow and see if we can get the original discount but have the car on white plates within a couple of months instead of 7 months. We can forego the extra discount for 7 months wait.

A lot of the red plates that car dealers use are copies and that's what you will  get for 7 months
No third party insurance cover on fake plates they are not registered and insured
The real red plates have a emblem on them and have a book that has to be filled out daily if you leave
your home province, when we bought our last new vehicle I insisted on genuine red plates but drove
on fake ones for the first 2 weeks until a set of genuine plates were available from the car dealer
We got our black and white plates in 6 weeks they wanted the genuine red plates back

    Simply not true.

Trolling again, please explain if you can how plates not issue by the govt can be registered and have third party insurance, waiting on your reply

  11. On our way back from Isaan to Phuket we were stopped and
a police officer checked the book for the red plates which
my wife had not filled out that day and asked for a 400 baht
fine, wife walked over to the senior officer at the desk and
paid the correct fine of 200 baht and was told the fine for
driving on fake red plates was 2000 baht
They all make up their own rules as far as fines go and love
stopping vehicles with Phuket license plates

  13. Bangkok hospital is the most expensive have to cover the wages of the staff who do

nothing except take patients from one department to another and the free cups of

    drinking water etc

You get what you pay for, we still use it when necessary, great patient care

There is a new hospital being built on Chaofa west road on the LHS before house and

home driving north, it will be interesting to see what they charge when it opens

  14. I have run successful businesses that sell items with a warranty/guarantee

All parts have a part number which is the same, not a serial number which varies from item to item

I have taken parts from new items in stock to keep my customers happy as long as the manufacturer

replaced the part even if it took a couple of weeks or longer, depending on how much stock I carried of the item

It does not void a warranty if you put the replacement part with the same part number into a item

    you carry in stock

if my supplier could not supply the replacement part I would still put the new part in from a

stock item and change the manufacturer who supplied me, lots of manufacturers supply similar

products be it vehicles or chainsaws or hand tools and are all chasing your business if you have

a good turnover of stock and will look after you to keep your business as far as warranty claims are concerned

I do not think ford have the replacement part in stock for a warranty claim, were told the part

would arrive in Phuket yesterday and anuphas ford would phone and arrange the fitting of the part today

Which has not happened, so if I was in their position I would not take the same part from a new vehicle

in stock if it could not be replaced within a reasonable period and stopped me selling the new vehicle

  15. I would have thought, assuming it's like Australia, you could meet with the dealer principal and lean on him a little. He may not be fully aware that the service department is under performing...but then on the other hand if there is no threat to him loosing the dealership he may not care. rolleyes.gif

When we first ordered the truck I made a appointment with the dealer principal because I was sick of them breaking their promise on delivery dates, told April delivery and ended up getting it in September

When we attended the appointment it was fords southern sales zone manager we talked to and he did speed up delivery of the

    vehicle

I think the dealer principal may have been hiding in his office because of broken promises by his sales staff

  16. You tried e-mailing Ford in Bangkok ?

I had a complaint about their dealer and their lack of customer care.

Received a telephone call the next day from said dealer and everything was sorted.

It wasn't on the scale of the OP problem.

Wife phoned ford and gave them a real roasting about their parts supply, warranty and service

Will find out on Saturday if part arrives and problem is fixed

Had the problem for about 2 months now and are not happy with ford service

They new what part was causing the problem from the start and would not replace it at that time

  17. The vehicle is still driveable but you have to stop and start the engine once or twice on the edge

of the road to get the transmission working and changing gears properly, real pain in heavy traffic

Is this "after" they fixed it.....?

They said they had fixed it the first time in, which they did not even though it was in the workshop for 7 hours

Second time in I drove away in disgust after they told me to bring the vehicle in straight away and they had not looked at it

for 3 hours but had it parked in a back corner

It seems they had the necessary part for new vehicles as they keep delivering them but not for a vehicle under warranty

    .

What would they charge to fix the problem without the warranty?

I do not know and why should I its a warranty claim

Wife has been on to ford Thailand and the local dealer phoned her and said the required part will arrive in Phuket on Saturday

Engine warning light coming on again today. third time its happened now but waste of time going to see the dealer until the new

    part arrives

  18. Why not take to another Ford dealership to see if you can get a fresh start.

Sounds like they want leave it until your warranty has run out.biggrin.png

Still over a year left on warranty so they will be waiting a long time

There is only one ford dealer in Phuket, there is another one in the first

town up the coast once you leave the island, they have just built a large

new showroom there so probably no money left to employ qualified auto technicians

just grease monkeys, only a couple of people seem to know what they are doing in

the Phuket ford dealership, not the type of service I am used to from new car dealerships

  19. The vehicle is still driveable but you have to stop and start the engine once or twice on the edge

  20. Took the ranger in with the ongoing transmission problem again to the ford dealer in Phuket

on 31/07,they said to leave it with them for a day or so and they would sort out the problem

did not hear back from them so phoned on the 2/8 and was told they had found the problem and

ordered a new part from Bangkok, phoned the area manager for southern Thailand today 8/7 and

was told by him he would check into it and the part might not be available at present

Asked why the dealer could not take the part from one of the ford rangers in stock and

then replace it when it became available and was told they would not do that (they had 8 rangers in stock)

Really like the vehicle but will not buy another ford unless they improve their warranty service

The vehicle is still driveable but you have to stop and start the engine once or twice on the edge

of the road to get the transmission working and changing gears properly, real pain in heavy traffic
