  1. There's a lot of smart guys and Thai-experienced guys on TVF. It wouldn't hurt to form a committee to accept our own lot of suggestions and refine them down to form a bullet-point petition of ideas to correct the main issues, and present it to Gen. Prayuth.

I know the nay-sayers will be all "He'll never listen to farangs", and "We'd never get a consensus", however, to the first point I'd say that 1. It's worth a try, 2. If you don't try you will certainly not succeed, 3. Gen. Prayuth appears to be actually quite worldly in his approach and has been quite "unThai" at times, and 4. The General is smart enough to know that although not part of the electorate, the condensed views of tens of thousands of worldly and Thai-experienced people is worth a read, and to the second obstacle, well, that's why there's a committee, to find a consensus on the issues.

Maybe a special TVF subforum to accept suggestions and nominations for committee members? A subforum strictly only for submissions, with no replies, quotes or debate.....the committee do the debating based on the submissions. After submissions close, the forum is view-only to non committee members while the committee debate publicly.

Even if it doesn't bear fruit, it would be an interesting excersise.

I agree with you, that even if the chances are small, it worth a try to

get some of our ideas in front of him. If you get things going...................count me in.

  2. I love it when the left get their panties in a bind over Fox news, the only organization that gives an opposing viewpoint among the sea of left-leaning media outlets that are apologists for the Obama Admin and left-leaning organizations throughout the world. and gets more viewers!!..LOVE IT!!

More viewers? Just goes to show the number of trailer trash high-school dropouts there are, and how long the breaks are between WWF shows.

Looks like the "real" trailer trash high school dropouts all moved to Thailand to become Political experts!

  3. The real problem is that the whole country of Thailand is in the Bozone.

Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops

bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows

little sign of breaking down in the near future.

  4. The author of this piece is quite right, it is acutually a well written article and has several salient points in it. I am quite surprised by the educational ministers plan to scrap the 2nd language mandate, this makes very little sense. I find it hard to swallow how badly the educational system is being treated by the government and how the citizens are not able to push more for reform.

The wealthy Thai citizens can get a good eduction where the poor do not have the same advantage, this is nothing new here or in other countries. However, in many other countries the government at least tries to be more equitable in how Education is made available.

Recently I traveled to Islamabad on Business, I know an American in Pakistan, not smart, but I have did it and returned safely, anyways, while sitting on the plan I was placed next to a Thai MP, he and I struck up a conversation, his English was quite good he said that the education department did a study of graduating senior girls asking them what their career aspirations where after they finished school and their response was, "to marry a foreign man" , this would make them and their family feel safer about their future than going on to university. The MP I was next too shook is head and was completely shocked, his next concern was for the future of the contry and its traditions. He continued to talk about how the schools fail so many Thai students because they do not encourage thinking and hope and desire to achieve, this is what our schools need, money will help, the PM saying it is important is fine, but changing childrens perspective is key! Without this, we will be having this same conversation in 10 years.

    Cheers

Is this a dream you had?

"The MP I was next too shook is head and was completely shocked, his next concern was for the future of the contry and its traditions."

I find it very hard to believe that you believe that he was shocked and concerned about any of that. Why didn't you ask him to explain why the Education Department decided to do a study of graduating senior girls in the first place. Where was this study done, and who did this "study", a bunch a slimy old guys who were looking for "opportunities" to get close to these young women?

  5. So I am wondering why all those idiots are taking the risk to stay in a China friendly country with the guillotine hanging above their heads.

Well thailand is a well-known haven for criminals and paedophile...

Amnesty immediately comes to mind. The terrorists get amnesty, the politicians get amnesty, the police get amnesty, all the others who have embezzled money got amnesty, so I guess that is what he will get too.....especially if he has that much money to offer them.

  6. Go full forward right now into a Visit Thailand campaign is a waste of time and money

After last weeks events were shown live all around the world, this is the worst time

to try and rush a Visit Thailand incentive program, will end up being a wast of tiime

    and money.

The first thing Thailand as a hole needs to do is get their house in order. People are

not going to plan holidays to Thailand any time soon after seeing those scenes on TV

last week. Why would anyone come here?

They need to work on the political and the social issues of the Thai people before

they can even start consider welcoming guests to Thai.

The hard core Thai travelers will still come here thru thick and thin as will be back

pack crew and that will just about do it.

    Maybe next year

You're right about it being a waste of money, but that is what the TAT is all about. Wasting money. They will take their whole "staff" and friends to stay at an expensive 5 star hotel/retreat to "talk about it" or they will all go on some expensive trips. They will end up with the same "land of smiles" campaign that they always use.

It was also funny to see the article above that says: "The Thai capital has been mostly scrubbed clean". Where does this write get that idea? A few streets were cleaned, but the rest of the capital is still in the same shape.

  7. Am utterly appalled at the reds. They had such sympathy a month and a half ago, now they are just a bunch of criminals working for their master Thaksin to the detriment of the entire nation. Disgusting.

OK. However, I can't understand any civilized person having any sympathy for them at all after Pattaya Asean and Black Songkran.

The only ones that have sympathy for them are the reds themselves - like their fan club here - time for negotiation is over and I hope the government realizes that the only way to win this is to go full out and destroy them once and for all

I agree. These "protestors" are armed to the teeth and now will start to cause Billions of baht worth of damage to whatever they please.......and who will end up paying for it........all of us who pay taxes.

The army/police are playing "footsie" with them.......get serious and end this situation now.

  8. All entry by land is 15 days for normal visa exempt persons (there are exceptions under bi-lateral agreements). This is a relatively new rule.

There is no more restrictions on the number of days or entries in any period of time.

If you cross 4 times in a row you may be asked why but unless you say your are illegally working it should not be a problem.

    Hello,

Sorry if this is not in the right place, as I don't log-on very much. You seem to know a lot about the current rules and regulations, so I want to ask a question.

I have been working for a 5 star hotel for the last 2 years and they have taken care of getting my Visa (NonB) renewed every 3 or 4 months. Now the hotel is closing and I am out of work, and I will have to take care of my own Visa......

What do I do? Am I only able to get a Tourist Visa? How long can I stay.....only 30 days?

Please direct me to where I can read the current rules and will know what to do.

Thank you, and again......sorry if this is in the wrong place.

  9. I recieved my Visa Statement in the mail today, and noticed that my Minimum payment was double what it normally was. I went to the bank and they told me that BOT has doubled everyone's Minimum payment to 10% of the balance due.

    Has everyone noticed this increase?

Any other comments from their banks?

  10. I'd like to respond to the post by bella 54330.

How can you try to compare your "sad and terrible" experience of being "hit on" by "royalty" with this poor 8 year olds problems?

You just another "model" who leads a very comfortable life but continues to complain about how tough it is for you.......

get a life....and don't try to make us feel sorry for you..

You will never have the misfortune the these poor children have in their lives..
