I'm retired and installed the app with no problem. It's very handy and I use it to pay for many things....7-11, food courts, etc.

I fail to see the uproar. Why should a tourist be able to open a bank account? They can't in any other country.
Yes, you can. I opened a US Dollar account in Georgia with a tourist visa.
Get a proper long term visa and you can walk into any bank in person with legit ID and open it. DTV isn't a long term visa and some people need to get over that. -

The long queues to enter will prevail...as will the queues to leave.
I went through Suvarnaphum last week and the egates worked fine, went through in a breeze, no hassles.

Not really.
Under Thai law, if you divorce your wife you / she gets 50% each.
Under Thai law - In court. The justice system here follows the law... no whims of a Thai in the court room... there's three judges for that reason.
Under Thai law if you use a company, it's 49% ownership opposed to 51%.
Not true. I divorced my Thai wife while in Thailand, appearing before a Thai judge. She got nothing, even though the car was in her name.

Never been refused by any taxi driver and I've lived here more than 30 years. I just get in the back seat and tell them where I want to go.

Then you must live in a different nation - maybe imagination, lol.
Very few people, specially cars run red lights in Bangkok. Not stopping at zebra crossings without traffic lights is a different thing.
I live in Bangkok and see cars run red lights every day.

But according to that article, you still need a physical license in order to drive legally in Thailand. The digital version can be used as a form of ID. But when was the last time you used your driving license as a form of ID? I've always had to show my passport.
If I'm stopped by the Thai police, I'm certainly not handing over my smartphone to show my driving license. I might not get it back.

Air passengers who need to change flights in Thailand are not required to hold a Thailand Pass. However, they are required to produce a negative RT-PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours ago and insurance coverage of at least $50,000.
Are they joking?
It's the new normal. I flew from Canada to Bahrain in October and the UK government required an RT-PCR test before boarding in Canada because I was transiting through Heathrow for 1 hour.

I'm just wondering if any US expats in Thailand who are living on social security have received any stimulus package payments. Everything I've read says that those on social security are entitled to receive payments and it should be automatic. All the US websites you can go to for inquiries are pretty useless.

Me wonders if the English teachers there are native English speakers. As for the Thai English teachers wonder what their proficiency is,
All things said, nice to see that there actually is a school here that seems reputable by right.
Most of the foreign teachers at that school are American and the Thai teachers are very fluent in English.

I went to Cambodia this morning and came back this afternoon via land border. Didn't hear anything about a law that doesn't allow such a thing.

Visas are not transferred. Immigration only transfers stamps they have done.
If you only have a tourist visa or a visa exempt entry can show both passports on departure from the country to have your stamps transferred.
You cannot get a 90 day tourist visa on entry. You can only apply for a tourist visa at a embassy or consulate.
You can get a 30 day visa exempt entry when entering the country.
Thanks and sorry I should have clarified that I have a non-immigrant B visa, but don't want to continue with that in my new passport. Thus, I just wondered if it's ok to leave and come back without having the visa transferred. And I only want to get the 90 days on arrival when I come back (not a visa, as you correctly stated).
Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

I have a new US passport. Is it necessary or required to transfer my visa from the old passport to the new one? Or, is it ok to just fly to K.L. and back and get the usual 90 day tourist visa on arrival (without first transferring the visa from old passport to new passport)?
-
As I have a new US passport, am I required to go to immigration and transfer the visa to the new passport? Or is it ok, if I just leave and come back with my new passport? I am not interested in keeping the non-immigrant B visa that I have and I know I will get 90 days on arrival when I return from Malaysia, but do I really have to bother with getting the visa transferred to the new passport.

There is a direct bus from Mo Chit to Vientiane every evening. I think it leaves at 8:30pm. Show your passport when you buy the ticket at Mo Chit. No need to mess around with Udon or Nong Khai.

but how does the app monitor the 8 out of 10 taxis that refuse a pick up ?
It's not the route driven that's the problem it's the refusal of customers thats the issue ....
I really don't get it, with complaints like this. I have never been refused to be taken anywhere by a taxi driver in Thailand. I get in and close the door and tell him where I want to go. He takes me there and uses the meter. I see a lot of people ask the driver first before they get in, but I don't understand why they do that. I've never had a problem. I've lived here 26 years and use taxis all the time. 8 out of 10 taxis refuse a pickup? Seriously???

I'm surprised at the bashing of SCB. In my 25 years in Thailand, SCB has given me much better service than any other bank. Yes, they gave a mortgage on my house (no, I'm not married). While I was paying off the mortgage, I took out a personal loan of 1 million baht to pay for a golf club membership. And 2 years ago, they processed my application for Platinum Visa card with 150,000 limit within 2 weeks (real credit card, no security deposit required). SCB has been great to me.

My experience is that it's up to the individual bank if they want to accept a large amount of coins or not. I went to a couple of different banks before I found one that would accept 600 baht worth of 25 satang coins, about 10 kilos I guess. It was a large main branch of Bangkok Bank and they didn't have a coin counting machine, but they took me to a private office where I helped them count the coins!

Dear Rickray .. how did you prove she had a Thai biyfriend in court ??
Hired a private detective for a couple thousand baht. He took photos of them together, his car, apartment where they occasionally shacked up etc. After it was found out, she didn't deny it. In fact, the boyfriend appeared in court with her.

I got a lawyer after I found out my wife had a Thai boyfriend. The lawyer did a good job and had plenty of evidence. We went to court in Korat and I kept everything, 100%....house, car, money everything. She got nothing.
How about giving up your Lawyers name and where he/she office is...please
It was more than 10 years ago, but I could probably dig it up somewhere.

New 90 Day Report Rules?
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
My friend just did his 90 day report in Jomtien and was required to also submit a proof of address. After returning and bringing the proof of address, he was charged 2,000 baht. Is this the new normal? He was not late, the reporting was done before the due date.
