  1. I don't see how that's relevant. The OP wasn't asking about moving to Singapore, so he wouldn't have Singapore plates.

I think Malaysia is a safer tourist destination because it attracts safer tourists

Well, unfortunately for all of us, the world around us doesn't seem to care what we "think".

Crime rate in Malaysia is rising, rapidly, and has for a while. The most critical journalists even claim that crime rates are censored, in particular crimes against women and children.

    You get the idea (ehhh...well...)

    Sorry to burst your bubble.

Fortunately no tales of westerners being slaughtered by taxi drivers wielding samurai swords (think: Bangkok).

No stories either about elderly Australian women being shot (think: Phuket)

No stories about young backpackers being murdered by policemen (think: Kanchaburi and Pai).

And certainly no sordid nonsense about Indian visitors being robbed by transgendered men who hide under the bed whlle other transgendered men massage you (think: Pattaya).

If you are a western tourist, Malaysia is MUCH safer than Thailand.

yeah but ya gotta eat sometimes.

edit: coming from australia you probably wouldnt notice.

  2. 2, safer

    Come again...!?

I recommend driving from Singapore to JB if you want to experience the perceived safety. And I am not talking about anything that relates to traffic. Just drive a car from Singapore to JB and watch what happens...

    Good Luck. You'll need it.

OK, you win. Tell me what would happen. I've never done this drive.

I still feel that Malaysia is a safer tourist destination than Thailand, but I don't know how things compare when viewed from an expat's perspective.

Think of driving around JB with a Singapore-registered car as if you'd walk 125th in New York with a sign that says "I hate niggers!" and there's a good measurement of the amount of attention you're likely to get...

i cant see this to be true, given that a good 50% of the population of JB either work or study in singapore. and any holiday period the causeway is jammed packed with cars heading to malaysia.

  3. street-food traders that they will sell their wares at Bt25-Bt30 per menu

so that would be 5 grains of cooked rice and a finger thick sliver of chicken.

hope 7 is in on this price reduction too, now that no gapao is to be cooked on the street.wub.png

hey one thing too, what is the rice type called that they used to make the frozen meals in 7. the ones in the white plastic containers in the freezer..

  4. One person's oasis is another's dump. The key to Shangri-la is to have a fantastic women. Happy Wife! Happy Life!

wife and shangri-la are immiscible .concepts

Sounds a little sad that you think so.....I guess others, also, have not discovered who they really are yet, as to know ones self is to be able to let go of said self and intertwine with another ....or as you would say....be misciible.

there is more than one grain of sand on the beach and they are all different, you can keep your just one all to yourself. life is to short to be narrow and you dont get a second one to try the next grain of sand. no thanks, you can keep your definition of shangri-la.

  5. am in east sa kaeo . no water above road level here. no unusual amounts of rain though some occasional wet season showers. daily life as normal. increasing numbers of sandbags appearing on the footpaths. good to have the extra places to sit down and eat your toasted ham and cheese sandwich.
