  1. I know this has been asked a few times but I would like some up to date info.

I am going to apply for a UK passport and birth certificate for my child. Can someone who has done this recently tell me what documents were required for each, copies or originals. Also to apply for the birth certificate, can this be done at the embassy in bkk or vfs or does it have to be posted?

Thanks in advance for any help

  2. Why are folk posting about Thai food? The OP clearly asks where he could find a Scottish Breaky. What does Thai food or what food is the best in the world have to do with it? Why comment if your going to comment on something completely of topic?..................

I have never seen any Scottish breakfasts in bkk, maybe you could find one in Pattaya?

  3. I will try and answer your question, but please bear in mind things can change. I also went to the British Embassy to Register my Thai / English Daughters Birth and also to obtain her first Passport. I went armed with her Thai Birth Certificate from the Thai hospital, and duly Officially copied and Translated into English. The Thai lady at the British Embassy, was very helpful and said they would send off the documents to the UK which could take up to 3 months for the English Birth Certificate and Passport, but dont worry, and sure enough everything arrived back safely!

PS Your English Birth Certificate will arrive in the Portrait format and not the Landscape format as we Brits are used to!

Ok thanks. Also Do you need to make an appointment to hand the stuff in or just rock up? And do you need to surrender your passport or just copies?

  4. I am in the middle of getting paper work ready to register the birth of my newborn babies and also apply for their UK Passports. I have 1 question maybe someone can answer. One of the supporting documents is the Thai birth certificate translated to English. Our twins were born in Bangkok hospital and they supplied us with a English birth certificate that they produced, is this ok to use as the translated birth certificate or do I need to get the official Thai certificate translated?

  5. My girlfriend is currently pregnant and we will be having the birth at Bangkok Hospital in bkk. She is Thai and I am from the UK. I heard from a friend that the hospital will sort out the birth certificate and all the paperwork. He did say though that I have to write my name and the babies names in Thai not english? Is this correct? Or can I give them the names in English and they translate it for the birth certificate?

    Any help is appreciated

  6. Me and my girlfriend are expecting twin girls in 4 months and its time to start buying all we need.

Does anyone know of any shops in bkk that have a good selection of all you need for taking care of twins. Basically, the most important thing is the buggie. I want a tandem one that is strong and not going to fall apart after a few months use.

I know most department stores have baby sections but most only stock maybe one or 2 things for twins and the buggies I seen at mothercare look like toys.

    Any help appreciated

    Cheers

  7. My girlfriend will be giving birth in a few months. Once that is out the way I would like to apply for a visa based on the fact that we have children together. We are not married and do not plan to get married in the near future. I assume a Non O is the visa I will be applying for? Can anyone advise on what paper work is required to carry out the application?

Any HELP would be appreciated but I dont need mindless drivel from people who are bored or just looking looking for a argument to fill there day. Cheers

When looking at financing in Thailand most places will tell you to piss off unless you have a work permit but there is financing for persons in the Kingdom without at WP you just have to look around. For those of us in the Kingdom without a WP the bank is going to look at other aspects to determine if your loan would be worth the risk like the number of years you have been living here, how much history and amounts on your local bank statements (bank book), income earned outside the country (home country bank statements), employment history (length with current employer) and finally salary.

If this is your first loan then you can expect they will want 50% down and they will also push for a Thai co-signer but if you are well enough qualified in the other aspects you should be able to get the loan based on those merits.

For example my recent financing was 50% down with the remainder paid over 4 years with no co-signer. I am living in Thailand on the 30 day visa exempt (I work 28/28 offshore), have about 3.5 years of banking history at K-Bank, a fair amount of money passing through the account and provided bank statements from my account at Citibank in Singapore.

    Hope this helps..

    Kurt

    Kurt,

Im actually in a similar position to you as I work 42/42 offshore. So I come in and out on the visa exempt stamp at the moment to. I have 5 years banking history with SCB and can provide back statements from my home country too.

If you dont mind me asking, where did you get your financing?

    Moto45.....

perhaps I can answer your question with some more relevant information (as opposed to the other crapspewers on this site)

We are in the process of trying to get financing thru Toyota Leasing (because we want the full discount being offered).....

The sales people told us we could put 20% down (although you could also put 15% or 25% according to the Toyota Sales brochure)

without a guarantor. My wife and I thought that would be acceptable.

HOWEVER.....then the matter got turned over to the Finance people and they said we needed to put down 25%....of course we consider this to be just the average thai-scamming-bullshit to get more money up front.

We stood firm on our position which the sales people suggested to us and which we had already agreed to

Now we are dickering back and forth with Toyota Finance....

Sooooooo.....in the meantime we contacted TISCO?? They offered us a lower percentage than Toyota so we proceeded to go with this new finance deal

HOWEVER.... when we contacted Toyota again and told them we would finance with TISCO.....they said we could not have the 70,000 b discount if we did not finance thru Toyota.

    What Crap!

This is where we are at right now....still negotiating and waiting and playing phone tag....LOS - Land of Scams

    Joshstiles,

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I have some fun and games ahead. I will be back in bkk in a couple of weeks from work and I will need to visit a dealer and start the ball rolling. Tisco will be my first stop after getting the dealers demands

  10. Ok thanks for the help. I wasnt aware they were bringing out a new hilux, I will probably wait for that to go on sale.

So 30-50% deposit seems the going rate and 10% or so for the mrs. I am aware there are different payment lengths, 48, 72 months and so on, hence why I said I knew there was a few different options. I was just curious how much the payments would be for any of the monthly schemes just for an Idea.

I may look in to a Chevy but its all about price. In my own country I would never be buying any of these 2 cars but cars are so bloody expensive in Thailand I cant have the car I want. So Im just buying something something that I wouldnt be pissed of at driving all the time. I have even looked in to building a kit car with a hayabusa engine but then the registering of the car becomes the issue. Also I will need to check the price of parts for a chevy. Im a HGV mechanic by trade so I will be doing all the servicing myself unless there is free servicing. Again if I went with a Chev it would be a colarado so I can get a motocross bike in the back.

  11. Does anyone have any info on getting a new hilux on finance?

Basically I want to know what the initial down payment is and then how much the monthly payments would be a for how many years. I know there is obviously a few different options and obviously it will vary from dealer to dealer but if anyone has any past experience with this they could share it would be great.

If you don't have any info then you don't need to comment. I am aware I could go to a dealer and ask them but im offshore so thats not a option. So no trolling please

  12. It is good to have a new mx track near bangkok. It would be good if they could organize a proper mx national championship in Thailand rather than this stupid supercross championship they have. How is a supercross championship supposed to help the upcoming Thai or farang riders get to the levels of other countrys? Supercross is just something for the winter months in most countrys and motocross is what its all about. Thats why there will never be a regular GP rider from Thailand.

Its good to see they managed to get the MXGP back to Thailand this year with all the issues there was with payment to the FIM. The FIM only just received the money for the first GP held in Thailand in 2013. They still haven't got last years money but since they got the money for 2013 they allowed it to come back. Apparently this has something to do with why it was moved to Nakhon Chaisi.

Its such a same though, that the track at Si Racha has been left to overgrow and fade in to the country side. That was a great track with great soil, almost sandy. The photos iv seen of the new track on facebook also look good but the track map shows its much more supercross style than your normal GP track. I guess it will suit RV2 so will make good spectating.

Definitely looking forward to the weekend anyway, hopefully the facilitys will be a bit better to at the new place. They didn't have much in the way of stalls selling stuff at the last track and no monster tents or red bull test for pit partys with the monster girls :-(

  13. Does anyone know any bars or anywhere in Pattaya that will be showing the 1st round of the MXGP (world motocross) season?

Normally I watch it on the internet but I stay in bkk and will be down in Pattaya when the first round is on so need somewhere to watch it.

Also, does anyone know somewhere in bkk that shows the MXGP live? It would be good to have a bar to watch each round

  14. I took my girlfriend back to the UK for a month back in April. This was her first visit to the UK and the cold/rain did not seem to put her off, even in Scotland! So I will take her back at Christmas so she can experience real depressing weather :-)

Anyway, her visa does not expire till the 23rd October but I would like to get the ball rolling on the next one. Does anyone know if there is a problem with applying for another visa and scheduling/attending a interview before her current visa has expired?

  15. Cheers Mac,

I will fire a email of to the embassy in bkk.

I will actually be signing of in the US but probably just on a transit visa to get me out the country so I don't want to fly back to bkk and try to get the visa then find out I have to go to London. I also don't want to go to London unless I have to cause it will eat in to my break.

Hopefully the embassy will give me some answers

  16. I need to apply for a US B1-OCS visa. I am a UK national and I am wondering if anyone has applied and received a US work visa at the Bangkok embassy. I do not have a Thai visa, I use the visa exception system to enter Thailand.

On the US Bangkok embassy website it states that you should always try to apply in your home country but It can be done in another country but may not be successful or may take a longer period of time.

Obviously I would prefer not to have to fly back to London to apply, So im looking for any info that could help me decide whether to fly back to UK or give it a try in bkk

  17. Can someone recommend any English courses available in Bangkok that my girlfriend could attend to improve her english. Preferably in the Sukhumvit area. I am not looking for a full course that involves being enrolled in a year of lessons. Just somewhere you can pay for 20 or 30 hours and she attends maybe 5 days then has a few weeks off and returns again for more lessons. Private lessons would work as well.

    Any Help is appreciated

  18. If you ride 400 - 600 km is one day you should take your air filter out at the end of the day and give it a clean. With the dry dusty weather in Thailand its essential to keep on top of the air filter. In the city its not as big a deal but when your out in the sticks the amount of dust in the air is amazing. If that shit gets past the filter its just grinding paste for the engine. Once you get one spot on the filter that is sucking dust straight through thats it for the components inside. Im not really familiar with scooters and if there running with a carb or have they moved on to injectors? Anyway if its a carb, the smallest bit of dirt getting in there can jam your throttle wide open. Obviously this could be a problem at 105 coming up to a corner :-)

Best thing to do would be take out your filter once a week and give it a blow with a air gun, you could get the boys at a local garage shack to do this for 10 baht. I would also put some filter oil on it as well. At very least id take it out every now and then and give it a chap on the ground, then you will see how much dust come out it.
