  1. Any agents promising a DL without going to the DLT or doing a exam is totally 100% illegal and in most cases they don't even can't provide the DL.

Friends of my tried this and the agent only requested several times additional payments for so called obstacles.

In the end he never got his DL and went to the DLT by himself for the renewal.

  2. Departed on Sunday 10 December 09:00 and the queue's where the longest I ever saw.

The queue before the escalator to security was about 25 meter and at security it was completely packed.

The queue for the immigration hall started straight after the security counter with a queue snake all the way to the escalator down.

They blocked the escalator to the immigration hall at a regular basis to avoid overloading the immigration hall which was also packed.

But i have to admit that the queue moved slowly at a regular basis and it took me about 1 h 15 mins from the security escalator to passing immigration.

The immigration officers where working fast but unfortunately they removed several immigration booths to make space for the automatic immigration booths which should be used for the new automated immigration system for visa exempt people.

Yes. Need police report in province you are registered living in.

So far i know you have to do the police report in the province where the incident happened.

Therefore he told the Phuket police that he lost his DL in Phuket.

The real question is that can they (regular non immigration police) arrest or hold you on suspicion of not having valid visa?

    Good question,

I suspect that they can but they have to hand you over to the immigration department for a visa check.

I live in Khon Kaen . Part time for close to the past 20 years, full time in the past almost four.

Never carried my passport , or a copy of it with me. No one (other that at IO, bank etc) has ever asked me for it. I know it is irresponsible , but I often go out having forgotten my wallet. I mostly have my telephone with me, In it I have a picture of my Thai licence and pages of my passport, but I have thousands of pictures, so if asked, I ma not sure if I would be able to find it. If needed I would call my wife and have her text me a picture, but I never had. Not sure about BKK , and I am not advocating behaviour such as mine.

I'm the same, I live for over 35 years on Phuket and never being asked for my passport.

I never have it with me and use my Thai DL or ID card if required.

Even traveling domestically i never have it with me.

    next fallacy please.

    That is correct,

For the indentification law, any Thai goverment issued ID card should be sifficient.

But there can is also the requirement to proof your legal sttaus in the country. (Visa check)

Here is the issue, it is not sure if this can be done with a copy or does it have the original passport, Depending on their mode they say one or the other.

Also officially only a immigration officer can check your legal status as normal police officers don't have access to the immigration information.

Agreed after being threatened with serious consequences if they would not donate their land ?

Normally Thai people do not donate land that has some value ...

That's nosense, people donate land if they want to do it or they don't

BTW donate means selling in this context.

There are enough examples of projects being delayed / cancalled as the required land wasn't donated/sold to the goverment for the project.

Odd pattern emerging here, if you get to the airport you can leave.

The check in desk know you're on overstay the moment they see your passport.

    What happens next?

Do the police still pay rewards for reporting overstayers?

They don't pay for overstay reporters.

There is no change and you still can pay the maximum of 20.000 Baht at the airport when you have overstay.

The check-in counter does not check your visa stay, only your personal details and pasport expiration date.

Without knowing the facts we don't know why he was arrested.

    - Maybe no money to pay the fine.

    - Disrespecting the officers.

    - at the aiport for a different reason.

there could be a lot of reasons.

Assuming that's the reason, he probably thought the officers would have a soft streak and let him through.

If that is the case, this incident serves as a good cautionary tale for anyone in the same position.  Bring money...  Have someone from home send it to you if you have none.

Of course, it may be something else completely.  The linked article has no details.

Edit:  On a side note, what forms of payment does immigration accept at the airport like that?  Someone tuned in here knows...

    Cash only.

BFS lost that feature a few years back when there were too many passes being sold and the money not ending up in the right hands allegedly. You could try this company:

    https://www.limousine.in.th/fast-track-immigration.php

Be aware that Bangkok Airport Limounsine services don't pick you up from the gate anymore (Already for over a year) but instead you have to walk to gate D5 (oposite fasttrack immigration) where a person (most of the time a immigration officer) will wait for you with your name on his phone screen.

He will guide you through immigration.

Standard operating procedure at Phuket Immigration for the last several years.  Always get a new 90-Day Report stapled in when doing the annual retirement extension.  Always need to come back the next day to pick up passport with retirement extension and 90-Day Report.  On this last thing, I speculate that the senior officer who signs off on the extensions only wants to do it once per day.  Initially, I didn't like this procedure as I don't like to have my passport out of my possession for any reason.  However, after reflection, I've decided that it does minimize time spent at the immigration office as one is not left waiting for someone to sign off on your application.  Also, as I routinely get a re-entry permit after getting a new extension I don't necessarily mind going to the immigration office the next day to pick up the passport as I use that visit to also get a new re-entry permit.

You are correct, The senior officer signs all the application once a day at the end of the working day.

And normally they will put in a new 90 day reporting slip but this is not always done.

    I stand corrected (by myself)

I just noticed there is a Custodian to Thai child section on http://piv-phuket.com/long-stay-extensions/custodian-to-thai-child/

Actually it says apply within 30 days, I thought it used to be 45 days ?

Gotta laugh/or cry about the new photo requirements though :
2 Pictures of of the father with the child / children inside the house in 2 separate rooms. (Kitchen and sleeping room)

They mention 30 days on the website as that is the official time limit but Phuket immigration will allow it up to 45 days before the current expiration date.

fly in on a visa exempt ( free) 30 days, use onwardflights dot com for a flight out 28 days after you land<
apply for ur non O visa at immigration any day you want after you land
Its the Airlines that ask for ticket onwards, not immigration

If you do have a tourist visa airlines usually dont ask for an onward ticket

When flying with a tourist visa (TR60) no onward ticket is required.

If a local Non-O visa is possible (not possible for all categories) you have to do it straight after entering the country as normally 15 working days are required for this.

  16. I'm wearing Bausch + Lomb daily contact lenses (Bausch + Lomb) together with reading glasses.

I'm thinkig of changing to multi-focus contact lnses so hopefully don't have to use the reading glasses anymore.

Does anybody has experience with this and are those multi-focus lenses readily avaiable in Thailand ?
