  1. Out of this world and out of your mind
Just like it don't matter what you're leaving behind
Trying to change your life you change your point of view
But no matter what you do it's the same old you
Wherever you go there you are
You can run from yourself but you won't get far

And another thing, you need to be located (positioned) where you have the best opportunity for success! In other words, live close to the spigot (Central Bank printing press). Easier in the western nations to catch and store coin.
  2. We had the same problem with Mitsu pumps (tank rusting).

We changed to Hitachi brand, which has a Stainless Steel tank. Also rusting. (Tank, and fasteners / bolts)

We eventually changed to Hitachi TM-P turbine pump, as it is mostly plastic/fiber. It rocks! Dependable, high pressure. More money, but seems to be worth it, so far.

  3. I have used the services (heart stress test, blood testing) at Vachira Hospital. Excellent service and great staff.

My wife had an operation there (removed a salivary gland). Excellent Doctor, surgery, results. Good and fast services.

I personally know some of the nurses and staff. Kind and hardworking people.

The facilities may look a bit dated, but it is a government facility which serves the Phuket province, other provinces, and foreigners.

Sorry, but this like a hit job on the hospital. For what purpose?

  4. Just replaced the old truck 2012 Vcross with a new Isuzu 2023 Vcross.

The old truck had a Carryboy canopy, and we had many problems: paint faded and was redone, front canopy seal leaked (replaced), rear window drain channel leaked into bed (silicone added), Rear window "shattered" (replaced), remote lock eventually failed (used the manual key), headliner molding....

I like and want a new canopy, but not a Carryboy.

I am leaning towards Aeroklas, as they don't have a headliner. (We sometimes carry a full load, and garden plants, rocks etc.). We have been known to treat this equipment rough.

I am open to Sammitr TL1 also. Nice styling...

Does anyone have experience with the "new" canopies?

Opinions and comments on these, and any other brands, please.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Instead of all of this ranting, someone who knows about Thai law and procedures please educate us.

Are they (those "injured") legally entitled to any compensation?

If so, how much money is normally paid for "numbness."

I thought this type of thing was handled at the local police station "mano a mano," so things can be finalized in a quick fashion. And not "muck up" the court system with frivolous lawsuits.

    Anybody have knowledge of this?

    I am genuinely curious!

  6. I just went through the retirement extension process late last week.

I used the >800k in the bank method. I submitted full 1 years copy bank book, 1 year statements, bank verification letter.

(Note: while at immigration, I saw one man have his O-A visa canceled because he let his balance fall below 800k. They told him he must leave Thailand and restart the visa process. Be careful!!).

I have about 80k social security income, so I asked if I can use this as my income requirement (in place of 800k bank balance). I showed them some backup paperwork.

2 officers in room 103 Phuket Immigrantion told me they will accept >65k regular monthly income from overseas. I was a bit shocked and pleasantly surprised.

    They said:

    10-50k bank balance ok

Full copy bank book showing >65k monthly overseas deposits (note any "glitch" i.e. one month deposit not received = you are disqualified)

    12 months bank statements

    Bank verification letter

I WILL hold 800k bank balance just in case. But I think I will try the monthly income >65k next year just to see...

P.S. my wife is from Phuket and knows some of the immigration staff. I believe this does help me...

It won't be a great deal of ฿ to get an extra 1% on 800K/400K.  But once it is done it hopefully will function well for a few years with very little effort

In my experience, these higher rates were "teasers" to get your business, and expired. Thus, you have to keep moving the money around to chase this (extra 1%) yield.

    Is your interest rate fixed?

Bank of Thailand posts bank interest rates here:

that earns 1.5% on the first 1M฿.  I intend to use it to hold the 800K/400K balance as required for my retirement extension(s).

Please help us with this... How much more interest (baht) will you realize by moving the money around? 10000 bht?

I remember doing the same thing as you years ago... Moving funds to different banks with higher yields. After awhile I became bored with keeping track for a few thousand baht more (and I am not saying you are wrong to do this).

Across from Makro near Central Festival.

    Professional, top notch, reasonable prices.

  10. My farang friend and his Thai wife bought the SUV model ZS.

I have only ridden in it a couple times, but it seems to be good vehicle (nice lighting, aircon, electronics, decent power). I asked them, and they said they are happy with it.

Hey, a lot of the parts (plastics, electronics) used in building other EU, US, etc. brands come from China.

  11. Our experience was good.

Wife brought home a stray (in America 2007) and the whole family fell in love. We named her "Lucky." She is a Maine Coon breed (long hair, definitely built for colder weather).

When we moved here in 2012, we brought her along. Lots of leg work... shots, certificates, permits. Cost about $1000.

But the cat made it fine, and is enjoying her life in Thailand, 14 years old.

BS ! We are going to have a global crash in the order of 65-80%,the banks know this, before anyone calls me a quak , do you honestly think that given the recent pandemic, insane QE /money printing that there will not be consequences? Inflation will be out of control and the central banks will start to tighten to try and control inflation, Interest rates will rise and crush the economy. Don’t have money in Thai  banks that you can’t afford to lose ! Think Asia Crisis !

We are the most overvalued market since 1929 (Great Depression), do your research if you don’t believe me !

Why all the excitement and drama?

I just read that the IMF has issued another $650B in special drawing rights (SDRs) to cover any central banks liquidity issues.

  13. I have received both of my "stimulus" payments electronically, as I receive my social security electronically via Bkk Bank, NYC.

But my (Thai) wife has not received anything yet. We have been married a long time already, and she is a US citizen.

Q: who can we write to about this? (relavent US govt agency contact info please) And yes, I have tried to find out online without much success.

Another brit trash expat without money to extort traffic police, maybe a couple of f... you comments helped him to get busted.

The way he dresses at the picture is also a provocation to get pulled over and arrested by BIB.

It won't hurt to wear a T-shirt when you are out having a few drinks.

Dress nicely, be polite and admit your fault when you are causing an accident during DUI (driving under influence) and pay the police what they ask for without any argue.

Agreed. Humility, wais, and paying your fine(s) is the extant working system.

However, something has me scratching my head...

If he has been here 4 years already, he should have some savings in the bank (retirement extension = 800k, marriage/family = 400k). Maybe using an agent to help with immigration?

Even if he "makes it through" the legal process here, I don't see this ending well for him.

As in all other parts of the world: "don't drink and drive!!!"

They haven't raised fees in the 13years I've been a member.. Long overdue.. How many of these cheap charlies have investment properties back home they haven't raised rents on?? none want to pay higher fees but all demanding better facilities/course...

Blue canyon management increased annual dues 3X in Feb 2017 and said "pay in one month or your account will be suspended." (To reinstate your account you must pay your annual dues AND an additional 8000 bht fee). Management then increased the membership transfer fee from 140K bht to 250K bht. So, even if you can find a buyer, you lose 110K bht (which the club gains).

When the members complained there was NO RESPONSE AT ALL from management to emails, calls, etc.

The members do not object to reasonable and fair dues/fees increases, which are "on par" with other golf clubs on Phuket Island. But the manner in which these increases were presented (a notice of increased fees was posted and handed out) and the lack of communication by the management is unacceptable to many.
