The "new" regulations are totally in line with International Practices.  In Indonesia, if stopped without your original passport, your next stop is the Police Station.  You can wait for someone to bring you your original passport then they slap a fine for not having your passport wih you.  I'm all for having original documents with you all the time.  It may help weed out some undesirables.  Just my 2 Baht worth.  Flame if you wish, but the Law's the Law.

One of the reasons will poor management could be a result of lack of cash. with inflation etc etc the monthly maintenance paid by the tenants may or many not be enough for the upkeep to the tenant's expectations. This problem is not isolated as developments elsewhere, like Malaysia, have the same problems with management. Firstly, the tenant's association should audit the maintenance income and expenditure account to ensure the funds are not being mis-used. Simply taking over the management might not be the answer if the problem is insufficient funds, but who knows, I'm not there but just saying there are many other reasons.

Thanks for the comments. One of the reasons for my interest is that SP is relatively low density, compared to, say, the Talay View developments.

Can anyone recommend anywhere else, low density and price ranging from 599-1.5mil (!). 32m2 is OK great if it's 40m2.

Also, what about town houses, which developments are considered "OK" taking into account my price range?

PS, one the more important criteria is security of the place. I will not be staying 24/7, maybe just 24/2 ;-) so would appreciate recommendations on places with not much history of break-ins, if any.

An immigration office in at the Nong Khai border to Laos told me he interprets the rule as rolling 180 days then therefore, there is no such thing as a "2nd 6 months". Like some of the more experienced members above, it may be open to interpretation.

No changes so far. The new government questioned the project and a detailed audit was done. The decision to continue the scheme was announced sometime between Christmas and New Year; I forget the day. The TAT did say however that they would keep a tighter control on costs, so don't be surprised if some of the pricier privileges are shaved back in the future (Blue Canyon for instance left the programme in August IIRC).

I flew back to Thailand on Tuesday, and got the usual 90 day stamp and car back home, so no change there. Played Alpine just before Christmas too. The girl who brought me through immigration said that they were all pretty relieved after the announcement and thought their jobs were safe for now.

Of course, we seem to be in political flip-flop mode at the moment, so you never know...
