No it can't, you will see.

Agreed , its not like a ballon you can deflate.

Nobody will downsize the infrastructure because that's wasted money , it does not produce anything , costs money to downsize.

And you can't shrink the map also. Hence fixed costs would remain those of a large city but with far less people to pay for the same infrastructure.

In Physics we call this irreversibility. You can't backtrack , you have to go somewhere else.

why this pessimism. should not take so long for tourism to recover.

Because the more you wait , the less attractive Pattaya becomes. Less bars , less activities  implies even less Tourism.

Pattaya is not frozen forever in the same condition untill tourist come. Like a dead body stuffs are falling apart

You need to allow some time for the tree to grow back to its former height when its has been decimated by fire

The main attraction of Pattaya is it sheer decadence and a sex  supermarket. The last time I went there, a friend of mine took me to South Pattaya. He showed  me live sex shows, bars where all the waitresses were naked and every kind of decadent situation. Nearly every bar is a brothel with prostitutes. The owners are pimps. Most of the expats who live there only do so because it's where they can find a young attractive girl cheaply. It is a haven for criminals and people on the run. And if you read Thai Visa there's not a day goes by without muggings murder drunken brawls et cetera. As the part owner and Executive Director of a large hotel there for five years and visiting it regularly for the past 40 years I've seen the resort get more and more decadent. I remember it when it was a beautiful fishing village in the 60s.  It is now filthy, full of ugly condominiums. The seawater is polluted and and the traffic is horrendous.

I believe that Thailand will have to maintain social distancing and that does not seem possible with rampant prostitution. The sexpats will all leave too. There's no way that Pattaya will ever recover.

Its more a preach than objective description of reality. Las Vegas is full of expensive prostitutes , every one needs a playground on part with his financial capability. Don't be so arrogant and let people with less money than you play. Real easte is decadent in its own way. 15 year ago you have 100 sqm for the price which now gives you 20sqm. Dont blame it all on prostitution , the world is decadent with LGBT , eco systems destructions , insane price for health in the US. Greed is everywhere , no need to point the finger at Pattaya.

Maybe this time Pattaya will use this restart opportunity to emerge a better and more like a proper resort town than a cowboy's dive and slime joint, will Pattaya fathers will learn and implement new ways or things are just going to go back to the cesspool state it used to be...

Pattaya does not look like a resort to me , its a big city now.

    Not quite a paradise Island

Why do you think Europe is looking to relax things a little already, they will not be oblivious to timescales involved regarding economic viability. Instances such as this are more likely to weigh on the side of lifting stringent controls than keeping them in place

Do you have evidences to back your claims? My brother is a pilot so if this happen i will know it for sure

what does Pattaya have that you can't get anywhere else in the world only cheaper?

I've never seen the attraction of the place myself.

Walking street is like hell on earth to me.

It can takes monthes to restart airline traffic.

If held for too long ( 2 monthes for AF ) ,pilots are loosing their license and need to pass them again to be allowed to fly...

    No law against dreaming.

My dream is that they bulldoze all the malls except Royal Garden and build lots of barbeers where they used to be, and the hotels can't charge more than 300 a night and the BGs only charge 500 a night. Ah, Pattaya was the cheese back in the 90s.

He surely is not aware that people leave California. This place he thinks dirty caters for lot of people while in 'high class' ressorts , only top names make money and you have beggars everywhere. I like it seedy and cheap because many have fun and many others make money. By the way this is not your country , Thais do as they please

I sort of go with the virus being killed off if it lands on a surface that gets full tropical sunlight and high UV levels  ( hence vindaloo was tongue in cheek ) no scientific knowledge/proof on my part to justify my thoughts though it feels like it makes sense. There will be the arguement 'what about the middle east?' Dare I mention general lack of hand washing, years of war and water priority is for drinking, and all eating from the same central dish using hands and a not too well advanced health care system unless you're stinking rich. Anyway you get my jist.

So in general I agree with the idea of heat and throw in a good dose of UV.

India? I'll still go with 'hold that result'. Lots of people in close contact.

    Edit.

Anyone got a digital thermometer to check the temperature of their car parked in the sun here for an hour. Outside and inside the car?

Sun light does affect the virus to some extent. UVc rays kill viruses this is why you have UV machines in hospitals.

I dont mean UV both to get a sun tan. UV lights are dangerous and everybody has to leave the room
