  1. I would eat it, i eat much stuff here that wouldn't pass the European rules. Also i wonder how many of you guys ate that without knowing. I haven't been sick since i was in India 20 years ago.

As i wrote here before, i have seen whole freezers in the Makro being defrosted EVERYTHING was soft and about roomtemperature. Also i bought frozen fish there which was like 70% water, it was almost totally gone after defrosting.

I also bring food to Thailand which we freeze again, i know it's not recommended but who cares. I also don't want to know what happens in thai restaurants with my food.

  2. Okay experts, then what is "gentleman jack" or "old jack" or any other name they came up with last years? I never drank that, is it worth the extra money?

And i was thinking but i think i never drank the Thai jack D. Is it not the same??

Here i sometimes drink Johnny Walker red or black label with ice and water....Jack D. i drink with only ice.

Gentleman, Old and the ridiculously priced Sinatra Select iterations of JD are fancy packaging and marketing. That's all.

If you want a real bourbon that barely needs a single cube of ice, you want Blanton's.

One day you'll thank me for this.

(but in the meantime please don't drink ANYTHING named Johnny Walker, no matter what color the label is)

But the other Jacks that i see on the airports cost much more then the common one. I can't believe anybody would pay that much more for a box or different bottle? Also "old jack" should be more old i guess. I will check that out next time i 'm in Dubai or so.

That brand you recommend is hard to remember, i will try to find it. That horse on top might be easyier to remember.

  3. I have noticed the same several times. They really can't be bothered at all to make money so then i start fuming and walk out.

Also in our local 108 shop last week, i go in there to buy cigarettes, the girl is watching tv on her cellphone and let's me wait. It's a very small shop and after like 15 seconds i just walk out, drive to the nearest 711 and buy a carton of cigarettes there....will never go back to the local 108.

Or at the Toyota dealer where i went to buy a new car, i could buy it any minute if i wanted so...They act like they don't see me, go hiding somewhere....then later i go back with my wife on a sundaymorning and i had a hangover, they played very loud heavy metal music in the showroom..i asked them to put the volume down or play Getsunova, nope....i walked out again and so did my wife who was angry with me for walking out.

Come on man, also i don't have facebook and won't take it...so if company's only have facebook then i will never see their website...fine....no bonus for them.

  5. You've nailed it ... thumbsup.gif

Thai food really is that bland ... bah.gif

Thanks for the reminder to pack that extra bottle of HP Sauce for my next trip over.

    .

HP Sauce, now your talking my language thumbsup.gif

If you really want to ramp it up, just bring some ghost peppers back with you...only don't say they're "ghost" peppers, nobody here would go near them with a name like that ??

    Maybe they even those peppers.

I still have a bet going, my thai friend will eat 5 habanero peppers without drinking water, if he can do it i will pay him 1000 baht.

Good that you remind me, i will do it soon.

  6. I don't like Mama, i prefer Indomie from Tops...try that one if you can find it and eat with a fried egg if you want a snack. You can also mix it with cabbage, taugeh, saucage, bacon and whatever you like,we love it. Then you make the indomie first, let it cool down (not necessary though but makes the noodles firmer) and then stirfry it with what you like/have.

Yes it has msg but so does thai fried rice.

  7. Thai bbq is not my kind of bbq, but thai food is sure not bland. Fish and seafood is eaten with that green chilisauce, i like it but i don't eat bbq squid or mussles (only deepfried) . Prawns taste better when marinated (chili/garlic). You can also add lime juice or anything you like but please no HP sauce, i don't like that at all.

Fish i prefer deepfried, deepfried seabass is great (without the bones). Food is never cold in Thailand only in very cold restaurants. Salted snakehead fish is eaten with green chilisauce, i like it.

But you should eat bbq with Som tum salad, fried rice/noodles/mihoen and the rest of the sidedishes that you might like.

For bbq they do have great satay with peanutsauce and cucumber/onions/green chile...i love that. Steaks you better cook yourself.. One day i made farang bbq with everything marinated indonesian style (only fresh herbs used) and the thai all loved it. Smoked spareribs (american style) , mixed meat/vegy skewers with garlic mayonaise, smoked marinated chickenwings. Can't wait to do that again but the Thai also love their bbq squid, up to them.

  8. Honestly i 'm very happy with the army and i don't see their bunkers anymore. Today i saw a bus full of them so they are still around which gives me a safe feeling. Last year i drove between protests, bombs, shootings, corrupt police, roadblocks and that's all over now thumbsup.gif

I'm not a Thai hater let that be clear. I only hope it will be a decent safe fair country one day without corruption, roadaccidents, scams, cheating and so on.

Funny thing is that the Thai still speak about democrazy, i taught my wife to never use the word that way but i wonder if they all do it on purpose. Probably they have no idea at all what democracy means so somebody has to explain it to them.

Today my new motorbike broke down. A security guard helped me perfectly, my honda dealer helped me perfect and now it is being fixed (warranty) and i got a replacementbike for free. What else could i want? My honda dealer even speaks good english and he can't help that the fuelpump died suddenly. I know i complaint a lot but if things go well i also will be the first one to say so.

  9. Lifeguards in high watchtowers at the beaches would also help. I have seen those towers at Karon beach but they were unmanned while the beach was full of tourists (quality tourists).

Also i have seen those parasailers at the beach in Phuket and their lines went flat over the beach where people were walking/relaxing and they had to run for them.

This was all 7 years ago because i won't go there again.

  10. would be of more interest if they stated the reasons behind the deaths ...maybe not everyone who joins the thai polce wants to be corrupt but are forced into the parasitic ways by higher ranks

Spot on! I know some Thai policemen who refused to be corrupt and took positions where they have nothing to do with it. I deeply respect those.

They don't dare to say that inside the police force though.

  11. Only people who pay big deposits and regular payments suffer. Hold back the money, agree terms from the beginning. And stick to it.

If they insist on more tell them to leave knowing you retained enough money to finish the job.Fair play is fine but you are not a charity.

If someone turned up at my house with a brick for a hammer and a nail for a chisel they wouldn't last 30 seconds with me.Unless I previously knew they would and I was paying them extremely little.

    You don't get it.

We bought a new house from a huge developer, they are still building thousands of houses here. A new house comes with 1 year warranty. We got cracks in the walls (all houses have them) and we let them fix that for warranty 3 times in a row and the cracks still come back because those guys don't know how to plaster. You don't do that in full sun and also not in layers of 4-5 cm thick.

Everywhere you can see them filling the cracks with filler and then they paint the house.

Those developers use local thai contractors to build and in case of warranty they will send their workers to fix the cracks.

We could have sent them home but then nothing would be fixed.

This is spot on. One year warranty for the walls and pilings, five for the roof. This is exactly what is happening in the development where I live. Luckily, I have been able to get free service well outside the one year warranty period as there are still one or two houses which have not yet been sold so the developer still has a presence. The developer used outside contractors, but has some workers who do the repairs. Once every house is sold and they establish a company to take care of the development, there will be no calling on the developer to make further repairs.

Yup and to check if the work is done properly the thai contractor will come to inspect if HIS OWN labours did the job right. I have never seen him check anything.

It was funny, after we lived here some weeks the developer sent some officeguy to us for some paperwork or so. He just walked into our garden without using the doorbell. I was outside then and told him to go back and ring the doorbell which allready was broken since a week. (it was 4 weeks old). He didn't care for me but lucky for him my wife told me to back off because he was from the developer (how should i know that?). Then i told him he had to fix the doorbell but of course the doorbell was not within the warranty....... So that was my first job i had to fix. So i installed a new doorbell but after 3 weeks the switch from the doorbell was broken....I can go on like this but TIT.....

I allready fixed so many things in this house, i won't bother you guys with it all. I do everything myself now, i even think of buying the pressure washer to clean aircons and that thing to spray chemicals against termites. Then we won't need any thai labour anymore which would be awesome!

Also our moobaan has many lakes. Some lakes were filled up with clay and then the week after that they start building new houses on that. Those ones still don't have cracks by the way, i 'm waiting for that but it didn't happen yet and they must be 2 years old now so no more warranty.

  13. Wow, has the Farming section ever gone down hill. 42 posts and less than 10 informative ones. It use to be that in the Farming section, almost every post would be either informative or asking follow up questions.

Well at least the farming section is getting popular again. Shall i make a new one about monkeys?

Sheep are around the Pakchong area, but where are the kangaloo's??

Come on boys, i know it's late but if you don't tell me where it will be homework for tonight....and no cheating this time!

The first one with the correct answer gets a free sundaylesson from schoolmistress Supaporn.

  15. Yes they also stop me regularly but when they notice i'm a farang and i stay left, have a helmet, no fear for them they will let me go. I only speak very fast english to them as crappy as i can.

You don't have to fear them but keep left all the time..many times they also have one of their team a few hundred metres before the checkpoint and he has a radio to tell them who they should stop.

When i see traffic jam on strange spots then most of the time there is a checkpoint. Then also the thai motorbikes will all go to the left side.

But last week there was a policeman on a motorbike who did exactly what they should do, he horned to all drivers who didn't stop for motorbikes while they should, i almost wanted to give him 100 baht for doing that. I had big fun and followed him for a while but then i noticed a policecar right next to me who also followed him so i didn't dare to follow him any longer. Next time i will give them a thumbs up or even a free lunch if they like.

  16. I had labourers working in my house with crappy tools, an old nail and a brick to hammer broken plaster off the walls, it would be fixed for free, warranty.

I gave them a real hammer, chissel and pizza, cold pepsi, cigarettes..

When they were gone the tools were missing as well. Later they had to work at another house in the street, i went there and of course they used my tools (which even had our house# in it marked).

Another company, for steel bars had done our whole house for 60k baht. 6 months later my wife called them to build a carport and some small roofs from stainless steel. (total job for 100k baht). The guy made an appointment but didn't show up. We made a new appointment with him but after 2 hours waiting we just went out without seeing him.

Had some workers at my house over the weekend and loaned them a few tools, a decent spirit level, a sharp saw, cement trowel, etc. Each day before they left, they made a point of separating my tools from theirs and pointing them out to me. They even returned a pencil. I was quite suprised as like you I have loaned tools to workers before only for the tools to disappear.

Ive used this builder before and there has never been any problem, yesterdays crew were folk Id never seen before, Ive often lent the old crew stuff and had it back but this lot are just taking the piss.

Its kinda sad that you give them some drinks some fruit and some fish and they do this.

Unfortunately it makes me treat all of them now without a thought.

I think the builders are also pretty busy and really round here dont care at all if they walk off a job as another one is waiting.

Yes they have plenty of work, same here. Also i see them not finishing jobs so they can start a new job and that owner can't take another company anymore.

2 sisters in our street had their new kitchen + house-extension never finished. They had to rent another builder to finish it, i don't know why though.

Also other houses around here still have the scaffolding standing for a year, wheelbarrows and materials in the frontyard and the builders won't come back. Now i see that house for sale since a year, just the way they left it. Also there i don't know the story behind it.

At the lake here there a big warningsigns that fishing is prohibited because constructionworkers liked to fish there and drink beer after work.

In the moobaan where a friend of us lives there was a constructionworker from Myanmar who raped a thai actress in her new house. He got arrested for that. Be carefull with those guys.

  17. "Can anyone here with knowledge of the Thai laws tell us what will happen if one gets driven over at a zebra crossing?"

They immediately notify the construction workers to repaint the zebra crossing. biggrin.png Must look nice, clean, and shiny.

Well most construction workers here are from Myanmar. I wonder if they have any insurances at all. They do drive cars/motorbikes though, even in our moobaan.

So if one of those guys drives into a farang i guess the farang will sure have to pay all his damage/hospital bills.
