  1. Does Thailand immigration keep records of past delinquency from the last 5 years? A friend was treated at a Chiang Mai hospital 2.5 years ago, and as a result, overstayed for a week. He had already planned on going to Cambodia for a few days to a week, then return to BKK to catch his flight home. But the minor accident and infections prevented him. He had to convince the hospital to let him leave in order to catch his flight back to Europe. They had him checked out of the hospital under the condition that he returned to pay off the bill. The payment is still outstanding. Will he have a problem at coming in?

  2. Thanks as always, Ubonjoe for your clear info! I am leaving Laos and going to BKK. I will definitely bookmark the pages with empty spaces for the officials to see.

My friend living in Thailand just brought up another scenario. As they skim thru my passport, what if they take into consideration my history of waivers/extensions in the latest full year? Will that affect anything? I've been away for two months, now...

  3. Hello everyone,

I'm not sure how often people all of a sudden run out of passport pages, but I am certainly one that waits til the last minute to do something about it. I've been meaning to renew my passport. but my funds weren't immediately available and it would take two weeks to receive the new passport from U.S. So, my next option would be to add pages, also for a fee. I really would like to renew it.

My Lao visa runs out in tomorrow and I'd need to head back to Thailand. Once I arrive and have more time (one month) I can renew my passport there.

I skimmed thru the pages and found 2/3 of one page empty and also room for 3-4 stamps throughout my passport. These officials are so uncoordinated it's frustrating!!!

My question is: Now that I have no pages, will the Thai immigration allow me thru with the 1-month visa exempt waiver stamped on the empty spaces I found? I just need Thailand to stamp me in, then get to BKK and renew my passport.

  4. Geez. Twenty five pages of arguing about knots. Bet none of the naysayers are sailors.

Knot tying is a hard-earned skill. But it's been around for centuries. Just because some of you have never done more than tie your own laces, does not mean others aren't accomplished at tying knots.

I have a half-dozen books, some with a few hundred types of knots. Many are used by sailors, such as myself, when sailing alone. Once you know how, it is not at all difficult, and it's possible to do it in a manner that will keep the wrists quite close to each other.

Maybe the Frenchman was a sailor. Or a rock climber. Or an Eagle Scout.

    Or maybe he just Googled.

    Or maybe he was assisted.

by a Thai man (men or cabaret ladyboys). Or a Burmese (I only refer to the fire spinners on the beach)

  5. Let the investigation take it's course. Thailand is not rife with serial killers or gangsters, most of them come here on the plane.

If you think this is true, then, the ones that came on the plane definitely influence the local Thai lowlifes (which is about 90% of the Thai population). It's rife more than you think you know. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde can learn many things from the "normal" Thai person.

  6. What is it that bothers them so much when they face someone who wants to continue their stay in Thailand? Is it the many number of months already spent in Thailand that bothers them, or is it the continuing back-to-back tourists visa runs/visa exempt border runs with no gaps between trips? Is it people not getting overpriced extensions where proceeds might funnel their way? I understand that they get suspicious of people who they think are working illegally. But let's just say that this is not the case, why so many restrictions?

  7. I've read about an official statement by immigration allowing digital nomads to work on tourist visas. So what's the difference between a digital nomad on tourist visa and another professional on tourist visa working WHILE in Thailand, but not exactly living and working IN Thailand for Thailand based businesses or for Thai money?

  8. You should be able to do another entry but it might depend upon which border crossing you use.

A fly out and back would not be a problem.

Having a ticket out within the 30 days would help.

If there is chance you might want more than that 30 days getting a tourist visa would be best.

Flying would be a last resort since it is over my budget. Hence me considering train to Poipet. Are you referring to an onward ticket? I would get a train ticket to Laos as my next destination if the State Railway allows me to purchase one in advance. Isn't it too tight or too soon now to get another tourist visa after this recent track record? I guess, technically, I haven't done a back-to-back TOURIST visa.

SRT will sell you a ticket up to 60 days in advance at any train station. Not sure that would satisfy immigration though.

No problem to get a tourist visa. It only takes a couple of days to do a trip for tourist visa.

Vientiane is next day service and Savannakhet same day for a 2 entry tourist visa.

Good to know! VTE is my base and home away from home, anyway. I may stay my whole 2 month visa there with friends and family (Lao ethnic people/Lao Expats get 2 months or more when we return to the country). But in case I get cold/itchy feet, I'll be running to the Thai Consulate for a 2nd tourist visa. Hopefully, they'll grant me a double instead of a single, this time.

I'm wondering about future scenarios. Does it mean if I get my next visa exempt, an extension for that is not possible?

  10. Hi ubonjoe,

I received my 30 day extension for the visa exempt and I currently have 10 days remaining. I didn't realize until today how New Year's is fast approaching. I'd like to spend it with my girlfriend and our Thai relatives in Thailand. To refresh your memory, I've had up to date:

    -single entry tourist visa

    -30 day extension

    -visa exempt

-30 day ext. (currently valid until 25 Dec.)

At this point after multiple tries, I feel like I'm asking for your approval for parole. So the final question: Can I get one last visa exempt or have I maxed out?

I found your comment here and, hopefully, your info suggests that I would be okay since I've done visa extensions:

  11. Hey ubonjoe,

All was good. Thanks. I got the late train to Cambodia and kind of planned on staying a night anyway, maybe to try to lessen the back-to-back ness of it all. I spent the rest of the night at the casino making friends with people who had lost their money. Then I went through in the morning and the staff was relaxed and friendly. I was nervous as the official skimmed through the pages, but the reassuring sound of the stamp relieved that feeling. Through his facial expressions, the officer (I hope) wished me a good trip.

I noticed they have eliminated the small market way between the 7/11 and the Thai immigration entryway and laid down train tracks through Aranyaphratet to Poipet, Seems unfinished, but shotty work. I guess they're going forth with a train route from Suvarnabhumi Airport?

It seems.Cambodia raised visa fees from $20 to $30. Cambodian immigration officials were still up to their old tricks as they tried to swindle 200 baht more by showing me their kindergarten handwritten fee on the back of an old worn out scratch paper. But this time, they were less aggressive than in the past as I politely refused to pay extra. As usual, they gave up and issued me the visa.

  12. You can now extend visa exempt entries for 30 days at immigration.

What?? Really??? I didn't know you could make an extension on 15/30 day visa exempt waivers. I thought extensions only applied to actual visas you get from the Thai Embassies/Consulates

Thanks for the quick replies BTW. I have to leave from BKK, so naturally, I chose to go to Poipet since it's closer and cheaper. I may spend a night there so I could get some things from the Rong Klong Market. So it won't be same day

  13. Hello

Has anyone, or someone you know, been able to do a border run to Cambodia recently without any problems at immigration? If it's okay to do A border run, I would want to consider it. I've already made a border run for a total of 2 months stay in Thailand earlier this year before this whole crackdown mess started.

I'm currently on my extension month after my visa expired last month. My extension will expire in a few days. I may need to stay longer. Will it be okay to do a border run to Poipet? Or is this considered back-to-back (if still enforced)?

  14. Your extension started 28/9 and ends 27/10.

Each extra day is 500 Bt overstay fine or you can get a last 7 days extensions for Bt 1,900.

When I counted 30 days from Sept 28th, I should arrive at 27th. But the stamp from immigration says 26/10 is my last day. Should I go back and have it corrected?

To other comments: My visa expiration was Saturday Sept. 27th. I went to immigration on Friday Sept. 26th. And my stamp says I have til Oct. 26th. I think I should have until 27/10 like paz says.

  15. Hello all,

I had my 30 day visa extension done a few weeks ago and I'm a day short... my visa expiry was on Saturday Sept. 27. But since immigration offices are closed on weekends, I had to go early to immigration on Friday, Sept 26 to get the extension.

    My question is:
Shouldn't the extension have started on Sept. 28th after my visa expired- not on the day I got the extension? I thought you can go to immigration days early, and still use up the visa until expiry before the extension starts. I sure can use an extra day.

    Thanks
