  1. Hi all,

I have a chronic condition that requires me to take a medication called Mestinon (generic is Pyridostigmine Bromide) every day. It can be somewhat difficult to find outside of the USA or Europe. Can someone point me in the direction of any Pharmacies or Hospital Pharmacies in Bangkok that would be most likely to carry such a medication? I would like to stock up on a couple months worth.

Thanks so much for the help!

  2. not sure about a us licence but i was allowed to fly domestically using a thai licence for id

you can get a thai licence in a few hours in bkk and very cheap

as for the medicine ,if walk in pharmacys dont have it youl have to try a full size hospital (maybe better to use a proper hospital anyway so u get a script from

a real doctor as paperwork always helps when travelling with meds)

medicine laws are very relaxed in thailand unless you want something crazy like morphine so 2-3 month supply

    should be fine

Thanks for the response. Any hospital in particular that you would recommend? The medication I need is not a controlled substance.

  3. Hi all,

I have two quick questions and any help would be much appreciated:

    1. I need to leave my passport at the Saudi Embassy in Bangkok for a few days in order to process a work visa. While I am waiting for the visa, I would like to take an in-country flight to either Koh Samui or Phuket. Will my US drivers license suffice as identification to check-in and board the flight?

  4. I can't comment on the ease of opening accounts with other SE Asian banks in Thailand, but you could open an account with Kasikorn Bank, a local Thai bank. As far as I am aware no residency or work permit is needed, a tourist visa in a valid passport is all that's required, and 200baht to open the account. A visa debit card will be issued to you on the spot which works for goods payment and ATM transactions worldwide, and on request they will make you one that works for online transactions too.

Is Kasikorn a bank with which you would feel comfortable leaving a large deposit (5-6 figures) for 5-10 years.

  5. As I have now permanently relocated here, I would like to open a bank account locally (or at least within SEA) with a safe, reliable bank that will enable me to receive a Visa debit card that can be used worldwide (as this seems to be the most prevalent ATM network). I will be depositing a sizable amount for use over the long-term, so I would like to have my account in whatever bank where it will be most secure over the long-term.

Does anyone know of a reliable, regional bank or branch of a large international bank (such as HSBC or Citi) located here in Thailand or prefereably in Malaysia, Singapore, or Hong Kong that will allow a non-resident to open an account and issue a Visa debit card the same day? I have my own reasons for not wanting the account to be based in my home country. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  6.

It is a morphine based substance, so to me it sounds very unlikely that you can get it over the counter.

Its not on a list of essential medicines in Thailand.

You are lucky enough to be in Pattaya, so the first stop to ask (without a cost) is Fascino pharmacy on North Pattaya Road.

    Its here:

(not far from Tesco, opposite side)

Thanks! I am actually based in Cambodia, but Dilaudid is unavailable here. While I was looking for it in Cambo, an expat friend said that it was available in Pattaya, along with oxycodone. I suffer from chronic pain due to a previous motorcycle accident, so I pretty much need my meds to function without debilitating pain.

    Cheers
