That’s a lot of ship damage. Indicating something odd was happening out there. But still…Sukhothai could have weathered a lot. She was overbuilt for a corvette. And the Thai navy is pretty good about maintaining their ships. But she was getting up there in age. So something could have fatigued out.  Here’s hoping that it was a catastrophic structural failure and not poor seamanship that did her in.

This is a small ship; so no telling where the EDG was located or it could possibly not have an EDG but emergency battery power.  Anyway, emergency power should have been available, at least for awhile. 

The ship does have an aux machinery space forward of the ER. But the way she went down means a lot of water got in really quickly. When she heeled over and stayed down…it was game over if ALL the watertight hatches weren’t dogged. She better have a huge gash in her side or belly… or a missing prop shaft. Otherwise, it comes down to poor seamanship on the skippers part and lax seakeepng discipline on the crew. 

 Not only was I one of her builders, but I came over on her delivery run. My first trip to Thailand. I can attest that she was well designed and built and from what I can see she didn’t break up or have any big holes in her. I can’t speak for the maintenance because I haven’t seen the ship in more than 15 years. But I suspect several hatches  weren’t properly secured and she wasn’t rigged for storm running. There’s only a very few ways to get enough water in her to sink that fast without breaking her back. 
One is to leave hatches open. Two is to run into something and put a huge hole in her. Three is if she dropped a propeller shaft. Losing power? To lose all power isn’t easy. Not on that ship. But again…enough water will do it. And that much coming in through the stacks is pretty hard to do. My guess is that several critical hatches weren’t battened down. And whoever was driving got them sideways to a really big wave and dipped the open hatches far enough under to suck in tons of water at once. If they didn’t get torpedoed…it’s poor seamanship…the skipper’s career is over.

But think about when you lose your internet connection and how it makes you react. It shouldn't upset you as much as it does, should it?

I have dealt with many thousands of people who have internet problems (for a job), and while most of them would never dream of harming a person over something so trivial, when it happens to them, they change in ways you wouldn't believe possible.

I've had people break down in tears several times, call me a "fuc_king asshol_e, (insert my name here and repeat 5-10 times over one minute)", smash their computers, put holes in the wall, set their dogs on techs who came out to fix faulty wiring, belt their kids or partners, call the cops on us, turn up at the door of the office threatening us, multiple threats to go to the media or to sue us, and many many other things you just wouldn't believe a rational human being to be capable of.

People get the sum of the world's information and entertainment at their fingertips almost instantly, and they become addicted to it.

What happens when you withhold something addictive? Violent withdrawals.

I'm not saying what this guy did was right, but I can certainly believe it. You take a person who's had a string of bad luck and high stress, liquor him up, take away his addictive source of instant gratification and add another stressful failure to his life, and it's easy to see how he could snap. Everyone has a breaking point. This seems to be the straw that broke the camel's back.

I'm just glad they got him off the streets and I feel very sorry for his victim, her family, and his own family who will have to live with this in their family history.

Bunch of retards in this thread. The Thai police would not say it was a murder if it could possibly be a suicide. It is like you guys forgot what country you are in. If they were calling this a suicide is when you could question them, not the other way around. This is the kind of thing they'd love to cover up and keep out of the papers and off of CNN. It costs 20,000 baht to have somebody killed in Thailand if you know who to ask. They weren't trying to send any message they were trying to remove this guy and cover it up. Maybe he pissed off the wrong people, maybe he married the wrong woman, maybe he was on vacation and told the wrong person and pissed off the wrong people in another country, maybe he owned a huge Thai corporation and real estate company and his Thai partner decided he didn't like paying this foreigner 49% of the profit any more, who the fuc_k knows. He got stomped out like a cockroach. Life is cheap in Thailand.

The guy obviously put a bag over his head put the rope over the bag and around his neck, jumped from the bridge, his weight pulling the rope around his neck severing the head from the body. I own and have bred English Mastiffs for many years... And although we breed for temperament ... There is always the possibility that even the most agreeable of hounds will snap. We follow the three strikes rule... Any animal that snaps is neutered after strike one... This prevents that animal from passing on any tendencies that could put someone in danger... As these dogs can easily hit 200 pounds... This is the most responsible thing to do.

After strike two... Said animal gets packed off to extensive training and evaluation... Expensive ...But the fair thing to do for the dog.

With strike three... The dog is immediately destroyed.

But as to the OP's issue... It's a bit late and I'm sure you've learned your lesson... But any time a set (M&F) of dogs that is not your own approaches... It's always wise to assume that the female may be in heat and that the male will defend his turf... Therefore do what you can to put something between yourself and the dogs and attempt to shoo the female away. And if you are the owner of ANY other domestic pet that physically contacts you... Be especially wary.

I consider any dog not on a leash a soi dog and go out of my way to avoid them...

Judging from your story and speaking from experience... You are sitting on a time bomb... I hope you don't have small children... And I fear for your wife... Until you figure out the trigger that set that dog off... You should under no circumstances allow a giant breed dog to be alone with anyone that it outweighs... Your having to bribe the dog to let you go is a bad sign. If that dog wouldn't release at your command and held you that long... He is now boss dog.... Especially since you abandoned the turf to him when you ran off. Also... I don't know about Thai law when it comes to how much protection you get by posting a beware of dog sign... But I'd post a couple in Thai, English and Lao...

But still no efficient communication regarding a little kiss?... But can communicate well enough to settle up a cheque?... Been to Mum & Dad's for din-din and got through that ok with no apparent communication.... Met her friends and no english speakers among them? ... Been together for weeks and still the problem is how to communicate a kiss?.. But... We could negotiate a trip to BKK and separate rooms!?!
