  1. hi guys, sorry if this is redundant as i couldn't find the specific answer i was looking for.

i am going to be coming to bkk around mid june.

I was wanting to stay approximately 60 days.

I was wondering the easiest/best way to go about this.

I thought, i heard nowadays that it was easy to just fly in and get the 30 day stay for free, and then extend it while still in the ctry for 30 more days?

is this correct? or should i just go ahead and get a 60 day tourist visa?

Also, if the first is correct. How do I explain my exit ticket, 60 days out, if I haven't done the extension yet. Because I assume u always need to show your exit strategy.

    Hope this makes sense.

Thanks in advance for any info/insight

  2. I always thought this would happen in bkk. some areas like bang kapi/happyland have some of the biggest rats because every night they just throw a half torn garbage bag full of food out on the sidewalk.. the huge rats come out and forage on this like its a meal.. If you walk down the sidewalk at night, its like dodging small cars. The restaurants in that area, have rats all in them.. Hope this makes them start to think about the sanitation in these areas. love bkk but this has been coming for awhile..

  3. They will end up going with China because it's cheaper, but they should instead be partnering with Japan and attempting to set up a low cost production base for Japanese companies as they have with automobiles. China will want everything built in China and will only sell it to Thailand.

That's because the Chinese, as usual, are very greedy people. Big on receiving, but small on giving. When will OZ, NZ, CND and the US wake-upcoffee1.gif?

china is taking over saipan's economy right now/

  4. to be honest, when I first joined the school, I was mortified at to why I needed to learn the alphabet of Thai as I wanted to learn how to speak and not write and spell in Thai.

However, I went with the flow to learn the alphabets and consonants.

3 months after, I find myself immersing in the reading of Thai words, though my spoken Thai is still bad.

Walen has both good and bad teachers, as per other schools for sure.

The book's content suck bait, but the overall experience there has been relatively good.

agree, overall experience good but you would think there would be better options for books..

  5. ok, i didnt take the time to read through all the messages

I was in this situation about 8 months ago. There are things I dont like about Walen but honestly I had a good experience. Everyone was very helpful when I had a question about a visa and when I asked questions. There were a couple of teachers that could of done better and been more empathetic. Although, I think they deal with a pretty good bit of losers coming through the alphabet course not doing crap.

Thai is a language that you will have to do a lot of studying on your own and find your own pattern of learning the alphabet. As well as immerse yourself for expressive language. NO school in Thailand is going to make u fluent. I am in no way associated with Walen other than going to school there. I am leaving because of a job elsewhere but overall I was satisfied. You gotta learn that shit nowadays, when you get to your visa extension, they will talk to you in thai and ask you questions. So if you dont go to class or complain about attendance.. We are all adults here, what is your motive for going to school? Find your way of learning the language and go to class. class is basically there to guide and repetition. You have to study every day. If you want 1-1 , then pay the baht. Otherwise, move out of your farang circle and try to talk thai and study.

  6. Don't rush this. You need to check with the local Work office, they may accept your application and once approved give you a letter of approval. With that you go to a consulate to get non-imm B visa. Then with that the work office would give you the actual work permit.

thks so much for the advice man, yea, im not rushing but my job surely is at my expense. when u say "local work office" are u saying a different sub type immigration work office in bkk or my job that i am going to be working with.

    Thanks

  7. Just wanted to get some opinions/insghts on making sure I am doing the right thing here. I have been told I need to cancel my education visa by the school. Then get out of the ctry by that cancelled date. ( sept. 10 ) Then I am going to laos to get a 60 day toursist visa, come back to bkk, and then apply for work permit. Does this sound correct to anyone? Or

Do i need to cancel the ed visa at immigration in bkk? or is just getting the stamp out of the ctry alright?

Everything just changes and I dont want to be left in Laos.

    Thanks

    Shannon

  8. What PC bologna. Tigers and dolphins are not what's important in life at all, but everyone is saying they should be...really...like any of us has ever eaten a dolphin or fried tiger gonads. Sure, let's all do what we're told and nod our heads at the appropriate moments.....like that makes life better for us or the animals concerned. What drivel and utter crap. No. I refuse to be a robot for BS arguments. All the PETA idiots can now go back to patting each other on the back and being successful at trying to censor all debate under the cloying blanket of false altruism. Congratulations -- you stifled free expression better than Stalin ever did -- and for all the right reasons too. I protest. I disagree, and I I hate anyone who mouths such platitudes. The quotes are from people who make their living from being spokespersons for correctness, and they, themselves contribute nothing -- a last cull of such conservation nuts found that not a single one had ever made a cash donation to the causes they rant about...I guess the logic is "I get paid to do this, why should I contribute? I'm your hero -- you pay me."

Yeah, right. It is all minimalist BS aimed to make people feel like they are doing something. Raising awareness does not tie a baby's shoes.

I don't eat sentient animals, including dolphins and whales and primates. But roast some mutton, beef or chicken and I am there with no guilt. I am not accepting guilt for being an omnivore. No way, no how, and piss off with the pseudo-religious arguments.

I like being human, with all of it's contradictions and difficulties...but push comes to shove, if the choice is my little girl or the one-eyed barfing beetle...the beetle has to go. Get over it -- thaat's never going to change. Ever. And not for any of the hypocrits bleating to save all cute animals either.

Animal rights actrvists never care about human beings, that's too complicated, so they latch onto the easiest and most socially lazy approach altogether and embrace the new pastoral conceit,

Blah! We should all puke...and then eat some more beef (maybe vomitoriums are needed now more than ever

    narcissism at its best

  9. I see the logic on wanting to stop overstayers.  Although, I think if you look at the statistics, I could be wrong, but I think a lot of the overstayers are from neighboring countries.   I highly doubt these people are going to be stopped for their passports.  I would perceive that it would probably be a fair skinned chap.  Also, the other farangs involved are the teachers.  Most of the teachers I have talked to, work with govt schools illegally.  Why is it that a govt school would hire someone illegally.   In saying, if they are asking for this type of regulation, lets hope its enforced/fair in all areas.  Although, Im not holding my breathe.  By the way, I always carry my passport with me anyways.  It doesnt bother me.  Although, If it was stolen or lost.  It would be a serious problem and lets hope theres some leniency on certain situations.

  10. im laughing my ass of at the OP, new to thailand, probably in some budget apartment building on the cheapest internet package the company offers and served by retards.

BTW i have been on true for years both adsl and cable and except for one period of about a month on Docsis where they were having hardware issues and were sending out a technician (retard acc OP) or calling to ask me about line quality and speed service has been very good.

I get about 8 or 9 mbps on a single thread international, my voip quality is better than my mobile and my 30/3 mbps connection will do bursting to 50 mbps while multi threaded downloading or torrenting.

youtube hulu, netflix and all that, no problem, though bbc can be spotty. Occasionally encounter routing issues, but easily corrected with a vpn

I also find it odd to complain about poor service when they dispatched technicians you found inconvenient.

Welcome to thailand Malthus, i hop its everything you dreamed it would be

    what vpn are u using?

I have found a lot to choose from but many are not very stable..

    you get 30/3 with true?

  11. I know this question has been asked quite a bit but I figure the information and service probably changes rapidly as well. I need a good internet package / provider to use starting Jan. 1 to be able to have the fastest internet speed possible to a server in canada. i am living over on sukhumvit 71, prakanong -nua area.. I am looking at True, What package would be the best to get installed for anything stable? I need as stable as possible.. I have read about business packages, load balancing routers, etc.. I am not an internet/pc genius but really need fast/stable internet with not losing a lot of money.. Can anyone help! would appreciate any insight on this!
