  1. Prior to us getting married the UK, my future wife had already obtained UK Passport and residency. We talked to Thai Immi at DM airport concerning passports and was advised by them for her to use UK passport to leave and enter UK, and Thai passport to leave and enter Thailand. Never had a problem. I should add that she never changed her name on marriage.

  2. "Then it doesn't matter who the other two people are in your company or what percentage of stock they own"

Regardless of their management/voting rights, other people own 51% of your company and it's assets. When you die and your will leaves your company to someone other than these shareholders, you are only bequething YOUR 49% arn't you.? Your will cannot give your heirs this 51% as YOU don't own it.

If you have several companies then surely you are willing the 51% in each company to these anonymous shareholders?

    Americans can own 100%.

So? We are talking about Thailand, not Americans - by the way, which Americans? Brazilian? Peruvian? Chileans?

  3. Ya because big bikes cause all the major road accident deaths. Where do these muppets get these ideas?

I do not think the reason for upgrading the licence for big bikes is because of current accidents, it is to (hopefully) prevent some inexperienced youngster from jumping onto a big bike, which needs, not only good understanding of the bike and control, but a depth of experience in road sense. I have ridden big bikes for over fifty years now, (current one is 1500cc) and they aint easy riders!

  4. Most young kids can't afford a big bike, and they ride these little 125cc bikes like greased lightning anyway...

People that I know that can afford big bikes are usually older, have had a few bikes and are more careful.

...but I see his logic, and personally, I think it's in the right direction.

I also see his logic. BIB will be able to pull over every big bike they see. They will know that big bike drivers have more money. No special license? That will cost you 1000 baht! Great money making scheme for the BIB. They won't have to squeeze 100 baht from the kids riding without helmets from now on and that means less work for more money.

I don't think big bikes have higher accident rates in Thailand. If there was such a study, I might support the proposed licensing law. But, this is Thailand and I know they don't compile accident report statistics. Otherwise. a lot of hazardous road conditions would have been fixed by now.

But, ZR, if you obey the law - and upgrade your licence to a "big Bike" licence, you want be asked to pay those hefty fines you talk about

  5. Last month I went to get the first yearly book service on my car. As I was getting in the drivers seat, the young service lady came up with a sticker and tried to stick it right in front of me on the top drivers side windshield. I said stop! She said ok, she went around the car, opened the passenger door, and tried to stick it on that side in a badly situated place. Needless to say, I stopped that too, stating I was smart enough to remember when the next service was due.

Many years ago I had a tow bar fitted to a vehicle. When I went to pick the car up I noticed a large sticker right across my back windscreen advertising the product.

When paying I asked what discount they were giving me. They seemed surprised at my cheek and said none. I then stated I wasn't interested in giving them free advertising on my vehicle and to remove the sticker. They did so, but with some bad humour.

Me too! I claim either a discount or an advertising fee - or remove them!

  6. Will someone make it absolutely clear - there is no such thing as a "Retirement Visa". You enter the country with a Non Immigrant Visa, Category "O" which is obtained from a Thai Embassy outside of Thailand. When produced with the necessary back up documents, i.e medical, police, and financial statements to Thai Immigration - in Thailand - at the 90-day point, you will (may) be given a One Year extension, over-stamped with "Retirement". This extension requires renewal annually. It also requires the holder to confirm address every 90 days. This can be done in person, by a.n.other, or by mail. Internet application for 90-day reporting is in process! As far as I am aware holders of "Retirement" extensions are not allowed to work.

  7. The government might investigate the design for a low price (bt40k) and energy efficient 3-cycle motor driven vehicle, perhaps in partnership with Mazda who has achieved such a design. But not affordable to low income families. Such a partnership might result in a proprietary design that would attract customers throughout the world where there are large, low income populations with Thailand as the manufacturing hub. Such a vehicle might be designed for conversion into different configurations depending on immediate family needs: two adults with two children, three adults, etc.

    This is called sustainable solutions.

Sounds like a good idea - seriously, what do you mean by 3-cycle motor? Do you mean 3-wheeled? If so, this may prevent the rider from nipping between lanes of cars, or inside on the "hard shoulder", although, of course, they would still try it!

There are already quite a few 3-wheelers around, both sidecar and "tri-shaw" types, probably illegal, used mainly for business, but occasionally as personnel transporters! Not too sure they are any safer!

  8. Forkinhades is of course absolutely correct - but dont let the "Ground" system fall by the wayside! I had new wiring put in for house extensions and made it an absolute necessity to connect up green - third prong -wiring to the new fuse box. This was done. Later inspection found that although the extension carried the green wire to the fuse box - it was not connected to the main fuse box - even the existing fuse box was not earthed!

  9. This guy needs to live to 100. But every day needs to wake up in a small cell with about 20-30 other people. Their mail needs to be checked and restrictions on contacts. This guy needs to stay in prison for the term of his life. The torture of putting young people thru depraved acts stays with those people for the rest of their lives, By keeping him alive and in prison, he may experience the range of emotions he put victims thru.

Just my view: Capital punishment can be the easy way out.

The problem with this attitude is that within a few years he, like his two fellow Australians, will claim "he has seen the light, and is a reformed character." and liberals will demand his release - and probably get it!

  10. I don't understand. Was he arrested for performing a bad parody, or for making empty threats?

    T

*empty because his gun couldn't possibly have held enough bullets to fully carry out his threat.

The threat may not have been empty.

What kind of pistol was it, and how many bullets did it have in its clip or cylinder? Six or eight probably.

If you were there and this nut had started shooting, would you have been so confident that your name wasn't on one of those bullets?

"Police say Anurut was carrying a handgun, two magazines, and more than 70 bullets at the time."

My philosophy is "Think before you ink"
