  1. YALA: --- Muslim militants launched 23 coordinated time bomb attacks at commercial banks in this southern province Thursday, killing at least one man and severely injuring at least four bank customers, police said.

YET ANOTHER BEHAVIOR EXAMPLE "FROM THE RELIGION OF PEACE" :o

  2. If you like the 70's style musice Roger Waters is very good.

As to what to do in LA....well the beach is nice I recommend Will Rogers Beach but several others are equally cool. Check out what movies and or plays are hot, you can do that with a google search.. After the amusement parks etc, try out the restaurants, hundreds are available I can give you some recommendations if you wish just name the kind of food. And of course check out Rodeo Dr. (unless you are very wealthy you won't want to buy there but the shops are very trendy, the customers interesting and at times bizarre). Be sure and rent a car because the public transportation sucks and everything is really spread and too far to attempt walking to.

If you are into museums, the La Brea Tarpits is a must see as well as the Getty Museum.

If you have the time you may want to drive up the coast along Hwy 101 check out the scenery and tour Hursts Castle, the mansion built and owned by the late newspapeer mogul. Along the Madona Inn, built on the coast overlooking the ocean is a great place to stay for the night. Every room has been designed and decorated differently with one room in jungle motive the other renaiisance etc. It is a pretty romantic place to stay as well and the seafood is okay.

There is a hel_l of lot more I could say but this may be enough to start. Ask if you want more.

  3. The American press have reported that a man named James karr, who is currently under arrest in BKK for "an unrelated sex charge" is now wanted by the police in Colorado, USA. The story as reported is sketchy and incomplete, but apparently this man is suspected of being involved in the

Jon Bennette Ramsey murder case. For those of you who are unaware that case was a big story over here in the states some years back and it comes as a great shock that after so much bungling the police finally have a suspect.

Have any of you expats residing the LOS heard anything about this? Apparently the American authorities are flying to BKK to request extradtion back to Colorado.

  4. Washington DC USA is a very dangerous and violent place particuarly at night. I wouldn't walk around unfamiliar neighborhoods etc.

    maybe deserves a quick poll.........

"where do you feel safer at night"

    Bangkok

    Washington

    New York

    Milan

    :o

    1. Bangkok

    2. Milano

    3. Washington (Tyne and Wear, UK).

Never been to the US so I can't honestly rate New York, suspect it would be No4 though.

  5. Hunter, you're already AT the best halloween party in LOS (TV) and altho your avatar is a bit old school Jonesin' (ala Indiana Jonesin') you're IN!

Actually Ramar of The Jungle was a real old TV series circa early 60's so a bit before the Indian Jones movies.......

I am looking forward to attending the parties and exhibitions in BKK.

  6. I am returning to Bangkok for halloween this year with my brother and sister in tow. And as it is their first time in the Kingdom I would love to take them to a nightclub etc that has a great halloween party/theme thing. Can any of you recomend such a place? Thank you in advance.

  7. Dear Brethen;

Brillance in academia, does not necessarily translate to eloquence as a speaker. I have met many very intellegent people who were horrible at public speaking. Speaking in a language that is not your mother tongue is difficult at best. Many of the euphemisums and language terms may have a different meaning to you than to native speakers of that language as well as the extreme difficulty in relearning prounciations ie nouns, verbs, sentence construction etc.

In conclusion, while President Thaxsin may or may not be a fine example of a public servant, his native intellegence can not accuately judged by his speech patterns.

    Cordially,

My other concern would be to NOT assume a similar cartoon character's look and manner of speech from the locale I was visiting. I wouldn't want to be a farang Doraemon the way Mr. T is a Thai Elmer Fudd.

**yes.. he's originally Japanese, but he's so hugely popular here, too, he might as well be Thai.**

  8. BANGKOK: -- PM’s Office Minister Newin Chidchobb has come up with a new idea to solve the capital’s traffic problem: having government offices, hotels and shopping malls give free-of-charge parking space for taxis to pick up customers.

That has got to be the stupidest idea they have had in quite some time.

  9. I for one like receiving the good and the bad news.... so don't stop posting the news ......

I travel to and from the LOS frequently, and it is greatly appreciated when I hear about a possible problem.

    Cordially,

    Hunter

Maybe its just me but if I get a mail claiming "Breaking News" I dont really want to fight for the correct link through your endless advertising just to find yet another post that you have found in the local tabloids that gives Thailand yet another bad name ?

I guess I'm close to the ban list already

Maybe this is really the wrong place for me to post this and not the correct topic but this gets annoying when you click your link and end up here.

Apologies to anyone who has a response to this "News" My comments are totally unrelated to the content of this issue.

:D If there is a program that you do not want to watch on Television then you have the "off" button :o

Maybe if you do not want to read the "breaking news" from Thailand the just bin the email, alternatively unsubscribe :D No one is forcing anybody to receive nor read these emails. You could then just use the forum to read areas that you want to look at.

I for one look forward to my breaking news from Thailand emails. I live overseas I am very busy and would not otherwise see anything from Thailand. Well done George keep them coming :D

  10. This man may or may not have commited a crime, however, it not an uncommon practice for the police in third world countries to "set some on up" ie he goes into a presumably reputable brothel, club, fill in the blank and the policia via the management send in an underage person for sexual acts etc. Once inside the room etc the police break in show great disgust and distain, shake the guy down for whatever they can and throw him in prison etc....

Not saying that this is what happened but TIT rules..

and things are not always what they seem

  11. a friend of mine uses a tailor on sukhumvit, near the soi nana corner, just down from the Landmark hotel before the corner. I can't remember the name (could be landmark tailors or something like that).

Sounds like it could be Majestic Tailors, located just before Soi Nana.. and next

to the Majestic Suites Hotel... I have used them for many years and like them alot.

  12. It seems Bush is now concerned over Irans production of WMDs. I read the news this morning and found him talking about going to Americas allies and asking people to put pressure on Iran to stop nuclear development.

LET THE NEW CRUSADES BEGIN AND THIS TIME LET'S NOT JUST WIN BUT SETTLE IT FOR ALL TIME

  13. I don't know if any of you have flown Thai air recently, I have and it is just a step above China Air...which ain't saying much...and the fares and not competively priced either. For my money I avoid Thai Air, China Air, Korea Air, and NorhWest and Fly Cathay or Japan Air...much better value for the dollar and a far more comfortable flight.

As I remember (my last Thai Air flight was 5 years ago) the food was shit, movies horrid and the seats could only be described as "punitive.

  14. [You are correct of course and the mid day traffic on Sukhumvit (as well as BKK in general) can be a nightmare; with that in mind I shall add that we will be staying for few nights at the President Solitaire off of Sukumvit rd soi 11. I hope that helps.

    quote=GoodHeart,2005-05-30 22:23:12]

It is a rather large metropolis- perhaps you could do us all a favor and narrow down your BKK locale. No sense in tacking on another 2 or 3 hours of local cummuting, now is there?

  15. Dear Elysium;

Yes, I would very much like to hear as much as possible about the services and

the approximate costs. This will be my sister's first trip to the Kingdom and I want

very much for her to have a great time. And I am certain that beginning her experience with a great massage, bath, and herbal wrap etc is the way to go. Please advise and thank you very much.

    Cordially,

    Hi Hunter,

May I recommend Elysium spa and Massage at Sukhumvit soi 23....

In case you ask, yes I own this spa with my girlfriend who is an experienced spa therapist for more than 10 years at Mariott and Sukothai.

We offer a nice range of treatments and our philosophy is that we want to offer a high quality service with good products for a decent price. Let me know if you would like to receive any other info.

(And guaranteed that no other serviceas are being offered....)

Hope to see you at Elysium!

  16. I am returning to Bangkok with my brother and sister in tow for a brief holiday.

Our flight will be 17hrs long and of course very tedious at the end of which I expect that we will all be tired and sore (at least I usually am). I have visited and enjoyed several of the local massage parlors in the past, however because I will

be bringing my sister this time I need a massage establishment that does not "flaunt" any extra services but does provide a good massage, herbal baths, etc etc. If any of you can recommend a nice spa/massage parlor etc that will not cause offense but will provide a good professional massage service I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank all of you in advance.
