  1. Boris Johnson and his advisers thought they had a clever plan with the heard immunity approach. Giving the corona virus a red carpet welcome to the UK. I think he has realized his big mistake now and he does look worried.I have no interest in British politics but as prime minister he is the one ultimately accountable for this. If the British people want to forgive him that's fine with me, but that's not the usual outcome in these situations.

  2. In the case of Norway the warning from WHO could not have been clearer. You have only one chance please act now! The health authorities replied ,now its not the time for drastic measures. Flights continued to arrive with infected holidaymakers from North Italy and Austria spreading the virus .In a future crash investigation there must be provisions for immediate lock down of airports and borders in such circumstances.

  3. There is no alternative approach ,at present,to combat this virus than following the advice from Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea. That is fighting the virus tooth and nail by testing and tracing each case of infection. The heard immunization theory that Britain and Holland wanted to follow has underestimated the properties of this virus. The only way the western world can redeem themselves now is if it can come up with some medical invention. I write from Norway were the situation is dire and I worry for relatives in London and in the US.

  4. Interupt TV soap operas every 30 minutts with traffic bulletins including topics such as ,overtaking, stopping time, line changing, helmet use etc.Involve Buddist theory about the sacredness og life, the consept of moderation and avoidance of excess,to be applied also in traffic. The massive motorway banners promoting the latest Samsung prone, should instendig be used to remind drivers about helmet use, consequences of line changing, speeding etc. Some og the worst driving is seen on the toll roads, video surveillance and prosecution og obvious traffic violations should be technologically cheap and easy.As I understand  Thai authorities have shown resolve and effectiveness in dealing with problems in the past (eg.the war on drugs) I really hope its time now to do  something decisive about the terrible traffic situation in Thailand.

  6. Most Thais get their first driving experiences om motorbikes (under the legal age and without any formal training).Maybe quick erratic line changes and tailgating lends itself more to motorbike driving in congested areas ?The problem is,this driving style continues as drivers progress to cars. The abnormality has become the norm, apparently only the outside world is worried (including the world bank)A suggestion to raise the speed limit just underlines the serious problem Thai authorities has in  aknowledging this seriøs problem.

  7. Roald carnage has been bad in Europe in the early days of motoring (20s and 30s).The cost of human suffering tjen became intolerable  and laws and regulation of traffic started to develop.Somehow this process has not begun yet in Thailand.Personally It puts my relationship with my family members under great strain Refusing all suggestions to travel in minivans ( and even reluctant to accept being driven by familie members).Feel that I am in mortal danger.Worst og all that my daughter should end her days in a twisted car wreck.

  8. Cannot but worry about seeking a confrontation with China. Historic precedence of protectionistic policies paints a worrying picture. How can it be that the mantra of free trade, that to such extent has defined western civilization, now gets abandoned  in favour of protectionism ? My prediction ( from the bottom tier of society ) is that China will realize that they can do nothing about EU and US barring them from their markets, but will consolidate their position in third party areas like Africa, India, Russia other areas. If challenged there I believe in armed confrontation.

  9. Some taxi drivers have interpreted their service to the public as bringing the customers to their destination as fast as possible. No risk is too big in order to save a few seconds. This mentality is still alive and well, my family nearly killed on a ride from Don Muang a few days ago. I have to say that my impression is that many Bangkok taxi drivers drive in a much more considerate way , but still there are far too many of these drivers. I am grateful for any admission from people in power, that Thailand has a problem with road safety. This problem applies particularly to professional drivers be it truck drivers, bus drivers or taxi drivers. Some kind of completely twisted machoistic culture has taken root in these occupations. Unfortunately this worries us farangs the most,we see that it must go wrong (and indeed does all too often end in tragedy).I can not for instance understand how Thai parents with such calm can send their university student children on long journeys vith minivans .Their future in such peril.Again and again the news reports of new road accidents.Thailand seems to be sleepwalking not seeing a problem right under their nose.

You've clearly been drinking too much of the liberal mainstream media Koolaid. The fact that you mention Breitbart (thereby implying it is somehow not a valid news source because it doesn't support your brainwashed leftist views), is evidence enough. I am not going to waste time being drawn into a debate about the debunked handicapped reporter and grabbing women nonsense, other than to point out that he was making an offhand comment about what men could get away with as celebrities and he never said he did that or would do it. The fact that the anti Trump brigade keep bringing up something he said 12 years ago is kinda desperate anyway. As I did say before, islam is not a race therefore the previous poster's comment was not racist by definition. The myth that Trump is a racist, misogynist, homophobe, etc is just nonsense used by the Clinton campaign and it's PR arm the mainstream media to discredit him in order to win an election. Which they lost by the way. So that didn't work. I guess the next best thing is to now accuse and label all those who voted for him of being the same. Sad and predictable !!

One thing I believe paved the way for someone like Trump is the widespread believed myth that sometime back in the 70s there was a clandestine meeting of "soft liberals" or leftwinged polititians (many variation of this myth) that made a conspiracy to open up the borders for mass Immigration , steal our jobs and corrupt our values etc.The unspoken message here is that we  are calling for a hard insensitive leader who live in the "real world" to put things right again. Now we seem to have gotten one in Trump.

The boring fact is that no political party ever had/ will have the power to stop historic developments like mass transportation , the effects of information technology, corporation seeking more profits by sourcing out and so on.The only political  parties that has openly supported lasseiz faire (no government interference in nothing) is far right market liberalistisk parties (and I have never heard anybody blame them for the current state of our world.)

History show us how dangerous it is to try to stop the tide of world development by trying to turn back time. Then you usually end up with regimes that are much bigger problems than the initial problems they tried to remedy.

  11. Maybe individual rights are not so important to Thai mentality ,a well functioned society run by a privileged/educated elite may be preferred by many.

I believed an element of the current protest is just people wanting a better run society. We can not blame them for that. However the world community will react coldly to anti democratic aspirations and the notion of "a peoples council" (which to us westerners sounds similar to the fascists idea of the cooperative state or the medieval idea of the enlightened autocracy).

Thai civilization has developed has along a different line than the west.

Its their internal matter to evolve their society in the direction they want.

The US goes further they take the vote away from convicts in several states - which I also disagree with vehemently.... Once you serve your sentence it is in the public record and if people want to still vote for you... it is the people's will.

the people's will is not always right.

the best example is how democracies were born: the constitutions were not approved by the people, they were approved by the elite of the time: rather small committees of wise men.

then you got examples such as Hitler.

or examples of islamic countries were intolerance gets approved via democratic vote.

you get the muslim brotherhood elected in egypt... etc.

one man one vote = mob rule.

if you asked by referendum in Russia how gays should be treated...

luckily, constitutions have been edicted by wise men in undemocratic process to contain "democracy" (mob rule).
