  1. By the way before anyone jumps in and says that Im darren oxley im not although I do know him

I think your nick gives away who you are?

Ave 88, how can you say passing info to the UK Police is a waste of time?

  2. Is there not a warrant out for Mr Oxleys arrest then?

    Seemingly, that's the case?

Ave88, you stated on this thread on 23rd March that Oxley was in Phuket -

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Darren-Oxley-t251753.html

You now state that its 'an undisputed fact' that he is in Bkk, you seem to know plenty about his whereabouts?

I asked before and didn't get an answer, but have you told the Police what you know?

And why is one of your posts always followed by a newbie linking Oxley to a certain property company? Especially when the reality of that connection has been explained here by different posters on more than one thread.

There's something not right about your posts.

Everyone wants to see those guilty caught and punished, but I'm not sure what you are seeking to achieve?

  3. An odd thread. New members with few posts complaining about agents and the other hua hin forum and senior members understanding of libel threats.

The other forum has many members worldwide and many more daily threads then here. Room for both it seems.

I wonder what causes so much anger from a few and I notice the guy that was shot (hope still recovering) posted thanks there for the moral support given there.

  4. Martin Connolly was in Hua Hin after just buying a condo on a golf course. Friends at work in Abu Dhabi learned he was killed on 15 May. A short fax from a Thai friend said his death was "under suspecious circumstances" and that he was "the innocent party in the incident and regretfully lost his life."

If anyone has any more information, that would be appreciated to understand what happened.

I remember reading/hearing about the incident. The story here was that he was shot by an American in an argument involving a Thai woman (rumor was it was the American's wife). I really don't know any details but you will find a few narratives on forums and news if you google "hua hin martin connolly".

If he was a friend or family member, please accept my condolences.

The American is the owner of a popular restarent.

  5. If you want any info regarding Hua Hin look at Hua Hin Today or Hua Hin Hotline or this site.

Thats a bit rich. Didn't you read the above post?

If not, read this: "The managing director of Regal Thailand Group is George Mastrokopolis, a well known figure in Hua Hin and the proprietor of the periodical Hua Hin Today". He appears to be one of the people Mr. Whiting was in dispute with. Isn't it widely regarded as a propoganda sheet?

Isn't the other one run by the Thai 'mediator' connected to Mr. Mastrokopolis?

  6. I agree with the change in rules. Okay, it will hit a small percentage from LOS, but as stated elsewhere, the main issue is the sub-continent and the practice of arranged marriages of very young women being shipped to the UK often for a life of misery.

I would go further and from the area ban all arranged marriages of 2nd of more generations that have settled in the UK. There's no need and it's purely a culteral thing to do with village/clans/castes in the sub-continent. Arranged marriages regularly happen betwen UK based families now - that's fairer for all than those arranged from some obscure corner of the sub-continent.

By the by, I thought mods ran these sub-fora?

  7. Donald Whiting and his wife Dolly contracted Regal Thailand Group to build their home in Hua Hin but the contract has not been fulfilled and remains in dispute. The managing director of Regal Thailand Group is George Mastrokopolis, a well known figure in Hua Hin and the proprietor of the periodical Hua Hin Today.

The Whitings alleged that Regal took 13.6 million bt but failed to build anything beyond a half finished concrete monstrosity constructed out of sub standard materials, 80% of which has been surveyed as dangerous and uninhabitable. Mastrokopolis has countered allegations by stating that his erstwhile partner, Mario Aiello ( a Canadian/Italian ), was responsible for the contract and that his Group was no longer concerned. Mr.Aiello has since faced censure in the Thai courts for other contracts and is currently under legal obligations to remedy these.

The Whitings have been vociferous in their condemnation of Mr Mastrokopolis and his Group.Their complaints have been published locally and in Europe highlighting the plight of expat retirees who have been defrauded by unscrupulous developers.

Mr Mastrokopolis enjoys a reputation in Hua Hin fostered by his paper, Hua Hin Today. A report in August 2006, featuring a property promotion at the Sofitel, described Mr Mastrokopolis as the chief organiser of the event which had been graced by a surprise VIP guest, police Lt.General Chaiyan Maklamthong, Deputy Commission General, Bangkok. A recent report in the Berliner Zeitung states that Mr Mastrokopolis' head of PR is Hua Hin's former police chief.

Assassination as an extension of normal business practice is a recognised phenomenon in Thailand. The more professional of those contracted to kill are reputed to come from the South but in practice many engaged in this work transpire to be policemen or members of the forces.

I recall the local forum, facing the threat of legal action, had to remove a similar post to this. I believe they posted their reasons and that this still remains.

  8. I'm still trying to understand the viewpoint of the wives of the posters who remained outside thailand- what exactly do you mean by more "empowered"? maybe i'm just a thick-headed male, but its hard for me to understand what they can do in the west that they can't in isaan. maybe your contrasting affluent urban life with rural village life as opposed to the West vs thailand? u guys have to understand, i'm trying to make the most light out of this as possible, playing devil's advocate, since it's likely my gf can never come to the west.

How about getting your wife to ask that question? There are many forums for Thai females scattered across the world and it's a common viewpoint.

  9. I think open minded Thais become immersed in their host countries culture and become more empowered here. They then find it difficult to tolerate all the crap around status, losing face etc. they see when they return to Thailand. Women are perhaps not given the same opportunities to develop in Thailand. These are not my views but my wife and her friends.

Very much the views of my wife and her small circle of Thai friends here in the UK, although we will be moving to LOS in due course - the definition of that is a minor bone of contention between us. She wants to stay at least another 5 years! That horrifies me as I can retire in 3.

  10. I think everyone should thank and applaud those challenging this shoddy tale of corruption and abuse from afar.

Little support was offered from within this sorry state of a corrupt society and it was clear it was hoped it would go away. They were ably supported by the state run media and others scared of upsetting the status quo, including ex-pats.

But sometimes, things have a momentum of there own and various forums, the Australian documentary and individuals prepared to risk livelihoods have all contributed to what could be the first of many changes forced upon this Countries rulers/elite if it is to retain the respect and support of the wider international community.

Its just been announced that statistically, for Brits, Thailand is one of the most unsafe Countries to visit, what else is around the corner?

  11. thank you for your valuable comments.

Have you seen a project that appeal to you more then this one?? if so, please let me know which one that was. thank you

I actually visited this place a couple of weeks back, or tried to. My wife asked security to allow us access to view what they had and he said no! No questions asking what we wanted, just 'no'. Amazing. We both laughed and drove off. I wonder if others have had similar experiences?

I'm sure their sales office is very good, but I will never know.

  12. I am very surprised that nobody has any comments, there must be someone out there who has heard of the project or has heard of anyone who bought there. Please comment.... thank you

I understand that it must be frustrating not getting a response, but there are many, many developments around Hua Hin. Most are too much of a muchness to stand out, unless you have big bucks, and as you will have heard elsewhere, the markets pretty flat at the moment.

There really aren't that many regular contributors from town that post here, you get to learn who they are (I'm not one), they post some good stuff, but they can't help with evetything.

Hope you get some help soon.

  13. G,

    This Thread might help.

You need to read the whole thread, apart from the rant at the end.

    Moss

    I enjoyed the rant!

Some exageration and distortion, but broadly about right.

She needs ESOL with citizenship content included. Demonstrating an ability to move up a level with a nice letter signed by the nice teacher to prove it will negate the need for your wife to take the life in the UK test and go on to seek ILR, Citizenship et al.

That's too little to claim citizenship, IMHO, but rules are rules (and will probably have changed in respect of the qualifying period by the time she's eligible). Oh, and it will cost more.

Better get used to being treated as a 2nd class citizen in your own country.
