  1. I am planning a three full days cycling around Chiang Mai on a bycicle. The idea is to rent a bike on arrival and embark on a trip around Chiang Mai, cycling between 50 and 80 km a day on a flat/near flat terrain (ie easy to moderate biking).

the problem is that I don't know the area in detail, I have done the Mae Hong Song Loop in a car and stayed some time in Chiang Mai but apart from some major sights I have no idea which way to go to from Chiang Mai on a bycicle (I won't go as far as Mae Hong Son for sure in three days!!).

hence I am asking here to guys who know the area well - what is your recommendation? in three days I can probably pedal no more than 200 km in total.

Also, in addition to itinerary if you can suggest nice places to stay it would be great!

    many thanks

  2. i am going to be on Koh Samui between Dec 27 and Jan 6, so I am booking the first 5-6 nights in advance. then I am going to leave a few nights un-booked so that we could move to another part of island and find hotel that we like on the spot (ie not via photos on the web).

or should i book ALL nights in advance because we won't find any reasonably priced rooms early Jan?

    cheers

  3. Hi Khema.

I’m not sure about short stay serviced apartments but if you're just looking for a couple of nights, why not stay at the convenience of a hotel like the Sheraton, the Shangri-La, or Peninsular to name just 3 which are all by the banks of the Chao Phraya?

    Cheers

yep I know... but the svced apprt offers more space and I can have one apprt for all three of us (the offspring is over 30 yo ha-ha need her own bedroom) plus kitchen and a large fridge for storing fruit... Cetrepoint Sukhumvit 10 offers short stay rentals (incl one bedroom plus bed in living room) at a good price but i wanted to try finding something nearer the river.

from the lack of replies, i guess there is nothing. although i think i saw at least one igh rise building which looked like svced apprt on the bank of the river...

    cheers

  4. thanks bino! I know most countries accept such visas except a few (Germany is an example - for non-EU res who require German visa).

funny thing is my Thai visa was the LAST one to appear in the old passport, and they had to put it on the "Accompanying children" page :o after a long fight with the consul, of course, and numerous tel calls btw Thai and my own consulate...
