  1. The Four Faced Buddha which is popular in Thailand seems to be the Hindu god, Brahma? May I right to say it? There are lotsa worshippers and a famous shrine(Erawan Shrine) is located in Bangkok.

So there is a mixture of Hindu gods into Thai Buddhism?

By the way, people pray to Brahma for health and safety?

  2. I am interested in finding some mutual funds that have no connections with the USA.  My ex wife has a habit of dating sleazy attorneys who think its fun to try and increase or change the terms of our divorce settlement.  Since I am locked into some joint ventures with her in property and business I have to go to court and deal with these issues.  They never amount to anything but it takes time and energy to mess with her.  Since I am moving to Thailand I want to move my assets into mutual funds.  I am used to dealing with Fidelity and Vanguard as they offered me the range of investments that I wanted.  Are there any such mutual fund families that are not based in the USA but have the same kind of diversity and convenience i.e. checking etc?

Is AJF funds a good idea?  Stable and such? I was reading another post about bank charges and got turned off about Ayudhya.

why not take a look at hong kong or singapore??

    Fundsupermart

    DollarDex - Deutsche Bank Subsidiary

FinatiQ - Funds investment sites by OCBC(Singapore), always with great funds and low charges

  3. I have been thinking of doing a degree course in Thailand. I understand the tuition fees are really cheap, but not sure how much.

Can I get a UK student loan and study in Thailand? This would be a great blag, I know you can get student loans and study in europe if you are British.

Anyone have any experince of studying here? What universities are Falang friendly?

I was thinking of doing something easy, maybe journalism. Can I bribe the teachers to pass me if I dont go to class? How does this work? Lol.

by the way, do Thai universities teach in English?

what's the point of studying in thai uni/colleges when they dont teach in english and your thai is not good?

  4. I live up-country in Isaan. Since I have lived in my present house, I have had many requests to find farang husbands for neighbours.

Many of these girls/women can not speak a word of English and have little or no money. Some say that if I can find a farang, they will give me 20% of the marriage dowry, which could be  up to 100,000 baht if the right guy comes along.

I would like to help these girls, and also help the foreign guy get a beautiful wife.

At the same time, I wouldn't want to cheat anyone.

Some of these girls want to form a group and for me to teach them basic English, and more importantly cultural differences. Not the typical bargirl English, but stuff to do with looking after a farang, household vocabulary etc. Then help them to find their husband. They really have a dream - to marry a farang.  Why? Well, one look at the normal Thai guy around here I live is enough to see why.

I have never seen anywhere in the world that has a higher rate of alcoholism than Isaan. They look at the few farang around her that have a nice house, family etc and are not down the pub every night. They see their friends visiting far off places that they will never see, unless marrying a rich guy. Their only way out of their farming life is to marry a "whitey". Some would do anything to fulfill this dream. :o

I know that their are marriage agencies around, and internet dating services. The women around here  can't speak English or let alone afford a computer.

Has anyone ever done this kind of business?

What do all you guys reading this think?

i'm interested in looking for a thai girl freind for a start... tell me how...

  5. what's the difference between a resident account and a non-resident account?

will a non-resident account face alots of restrictions?

This is the Bangkok Bank definition and it would seem to fit business use or those with frequent transfers both ways more than most individuals. Believe most of us have the normal resident savings account.

    Non-Resident Baht Account

This account is for personal and corporate foreign customers who want to have an account that enables funds to be transferred into and out of Thailand for specific purposes including investments. It helps save your time when you want to send your funds to a foreign country or make payments or repayments to overseas recipients.

I should add this is a counter service only account and only at head office.

You guys open normal savings account with passport only?

So can I open a normal savings account with just a passport while on tourist visa

  6. Hey salz why are you asking about the sex trade a week after your post on becoming a permanent resident. Are you looking for places to stay away from, or to go to? :o Or should we just take everything with a pinch of salz  :D

I'm looking at settling somewhere in Thailand and do some small biz like a budget hotel... I was looking at Pattaya where it seems like a tourist crowded area with beaches...

I dont really want to be in a place where sex trade is all about the live...

  7. My friends told me that Pattaya is a place which sex trade is imminent or almost the whole economy there depends on sex-trades or related.

May i know how and what is the real situation there?
