  3. I am sorry to here this: I also live in the Buriram area, recently the dog pick-up has been in the village on a more than regular occasion: I make a point of letting them know I am aware of there presence, this is a silver nearly new toyota:

Send me a Pm so we can disscuss if we are near to each other: I have contacts with the local Police

macb, thanks for the offer but we are very well known with the police also for charities, donating office equipment to them etc..

When I get back maybe we have have a chat and a beer as it would be nice to see other falangs in the area and especially one who loves dogs like me. If you ever decide to have pups let me know as I would definately be interested in getting a German Shepherd that has come from a known source and not from a market where you have no idea of the breeding.

  4. Dear All,

Many thanks for your kind advice during this difficult time.

My wife has had the Police round and they have taken the evidence away for forensic checks and will let us know what they used to pioson our two dogs. Also they have posted a police man in our compound for a couple of nights so I can as well as my wife and chidren rest in some peace.

As my wife knows I will dearly miss the dogs she went out today an brought two Labrador puppies (2 months old) which by the time I get home will have nearly grown to full size.

Also I live on a 2 Rai plot completely walled off so my dogs cannot get out and kill any livestock and also the nearest nieghbour is about 500 meters away so dogs will not be annoying them at all so must be a plot to burgal our home.

I have also been advised that my wife will be able to get a shotgun licence in which the police force in town will sanction so she will be able to buy a shotgun soon and they siad to her that they will train her on how to use it correctly - what a helpful bunch they are.

BTW. The Police officer on guard told the wife and children that if they here shooting during the night that they must not come outside to see what is happening - so this guy means business but is somewhat scary.

  5. I have just received some upsetting news from my wife today (I work in the Middle East), two of our dogs (one Golden Retriever and the other a Mongrel) were found dead this morning in our garden and there was a sort of egg omlet found rapped up in paper which had some green stuff on it which seems to be the stuff that piosoned our two dogs.

We have five dogs (now only three) and two live in the house and the others outside, luckily the third dog did not eat any of this food as he was at the front of the house. I will dearly miss the two dogs as they were very freindly and good companions.

We believe there are people roaming the area (I live near Buriram) and are checking to see where us falangs live and they are casing the area so they knew we had dogs and they threw this pioson into the garden last night so that they could maybe return tonight to burgal the place. I have told my wife to tell the police so that they will be ready for them (I hope).

THis is a message to all falangs in the area, please be on your guard, when I get back I will buy a shotgun and teach my wife how to use it as this is very concerning especially for me being away.

  6. Please can any advise as my wife and daughter are both Thai holding Thai passports and I want to take them somewhere that does not require a Visa in advance, somewhere where they can get a visa on arrival like Argentina (I beleive), Malaysia, Singapore, Honk Kong etc..

I would like to take them to India of Africa but need to know if they need to get a tourist Visa in advance.

    Any replies most welcome please.

  7. Hi

I guess anything between 4 and 8, were not looking for anything too expensive. How far on the outskirts of Korat? The wife wants to be as close to the center as possible

    Thanks

The Bungalow is in a estate which is actually in Korat and is about 3 kms from the Mall, for 8,000 it might just be feesable but how long are you willing to rent for?

  8. Lol :o

That was the only place weve managed to find becasue it was through a friend of my wifes mother. Aircon I can live without, i prefer a fan. Flushing toilet i think is a must because we do plan to stay for a few years when we find the right apartment. Hot water is a must but ive also seen how cheaply they can be installed and i guess most landlords wouldnt object.

But the main problem with that house was that there was no wall or front door, it was really strange just a huge open wall with only a metal shutter. All the other house in the block of 4 had patio doors installed. We had talked to the landlady and she said we could get the patio door installed and they would lower the rent until the price of the doors was paid off. Her husband decided against it so we couldnt get the place.

Still looking and hopeing to find somewhere soon, I just wish I could afford to buy a place but i have no savings or not enough for a house as i only graduated last year.

Hi Jared, I am in the business of buying houses and renting them out and I am looking at a brand new two bedroom house just on the outskirtds of Korat, which will have all you have asked for but I need to know what your budget per month is for the rent.

  9. I recently sent money back to the UK for my sister through Western Union and she never received it. She went to the office and was informed it had not arrived yet. I do not understand how WU in Thailand informed me that it has been sent to the UK and the money had been received by my sister???

Surely it is a wire transfer????

I have informed Thailand WU that the receiver must show ID and this is copied as proof of Identity. They also have to complete the code, amount etc. I got a bullsh*t answer that it is a UK problem and I need to contact them.

Any ideas what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

I have had the exact same problem right now as I sent some Bht 200,000 from Thailand to my sister in the UK and someone else has collect the money. I am now going through alot of hel_l now to find out what has gone wrong and trying hard with the idiots at Western Union to get my money back.

Would be good to hear from anyone who has had the same problem as I suspect this is an inside job at as no one else knew the details.

Any help or info on this would be very appreciated.

  10. Oh, one other thing I'd have liked to have seen fitted...a turbo timer.

Can anyone tell me what this Turbo Timer does? As I have had some bits and pces fitted onto my Fortunner and they put this on to. All I know is that the number on the timer goes up when I am travelling and when I turn the key to off the car is still running until the timer goes to zero. I guess it is to protect the turbo in some way but how?

  11. Okay, the friend of a friend who found the above mentioned peice of shit came to pick us up in a honda accord. after 200 yards, sat in the back I pointed out the temp needle was in the red and did he know this? was the needle broken?? (he was a car dealer who was helping me get the best price......hmmmm) He nodded when my friend translated and then kept driving. then the engine starts cutting out at tickover... I point out that the temp is OFF THE ######ING SCALE and MIGHT have something to do with it... Still he continues... then as the car won't tick over at all and the ECU light comes on and the auto box selector light is flashing he stops and looks puzzled!!!!

I get them to open the hood and on checking the pipe off the rad I can tell there is NO coolant in the thing just gas. I check the remnants of the overflow and its just water NO COOLANT (taste test). I point out that depending on how long before I got in the temp had been that high there was a good chance the head gasket was blown and the head may well be warped. Imagine my poor friend trying to translate that the oil ways and water ways may have merged if the gasket has cracked and the water may have exited the block or be mixing with the oil. He struggled. cut a long story short, we hung around for ages while waiting to get picked up. they got 5 litres of water in the rad before driving it to a garage ( without running the engine to check for air pockets... ) so I don't hold out much hope. this was just the car to get me to my truck... Do I need to tell you how fcuked my truck was... ?

The quest continues... Thinking about renting from korat lover. just wanted something sooner than the end of the month..

    Hey Loz

Wanna make me an offer? :o

    TBWG

Nice car TBWG, reminds me of the good ole days banger racing.

Loz, I did try to advise you that you aint gonna get much for Bht 50,000 in anycase the end of the month is getting nearer so if you want to rent you better let me know a week before the end of the month so that I can plan accordingly.

  12. Hi all,

Well I have just made an offer on a lovely house and it looks like it has been accepted and I will view it at the end of this month (as I am currently working in Iraq), all going well I should be buying and moving in the same day (my wife will be pleased).

And yes you all may have a drink on me when I get there! :o

Amazing how you can virtually buy a house over the internet.

    All the best

    Paul

  13. http://www.satihoga.com/House_sale_Chiang_Mai_Mae_Rim.htm

i saved this website for my own interest as i too am looking. price in you range.

i also found several decent homes below your budget - mostly smaller lot sizes (like less than 60-79 square wa.) three-four bedrooms, with 2-4 baths.

    good luck.

Many thanks all of you for youe valueable responses, I will be in CM 1st week of July and if any of you are about I will buy you all a drink!

  14. Agents add cost but in theory save time. Finding something yourself is almost just as easy if you have a car or bike to check around the various housing estates. (These are on all major roads out of town, I'm sure it's similar in Khorat)

I would however also check out some agents, if only because they drive you around so you get a feel for the area and what's generally on offer. But don't pay much attention to the prices they're quoting as you will not like them. :o

    > I have abudget of about 2.5 mil Baht and would like a 2 or

    > 3 bedroom place with a nice garden to relax and have some beers.

That's a bit tight but not impossible. (might have to cut down on the beers. :D

    Cheers,

    Chanchao

    Hi Chanchao,

Thanks for your advise and I will see an agent as well as go looking myself, considering the land and house policy now being enforced (houses in a company name being scrutinised) I am hoping that they might be some desparate housing companies wanting a cash deal.

In anycase what area of Chaing Mai would you reccomend?

  15. Hi all,

I am currently residing in Korat and the wife wants to have a holiday home in Chaing Mai but as we have never bee there can anyone help with what would be a suitable location not to far from the city and would it be better to go through an agent in Chiang Mai or look around myself.

I have abudget of about 2.5 mil Baht and would like a 2 or 3 bedroom place with a nice garden to relax and have some beers.

Any help much appreciated as I am planning to go to Chaing Mai 1st week of July to look for a house.

    Thanks in advance. :o

  16. :o Ahhhh. The last few posts seem to be putting us back on track. And like Dutch, I also think we should appreciate KC's efforts to put some of this on paper. It is nice to have some kind of "agenda". Kind of helps set the pace and mood of our "informal" meeting. The fact that KC took the time an effort to do this for the first "meeting" was commendable. I also liked Dutch's "bull to lamb" thing; that would be good, or maybe something in between (bull and lamb). :D

    What about Goat? :D

  17. People we really do need ALL of you.

Small interest groups will form and that is good.

During the meeting I stated that we have to accept the variety of people that will show up and be "member". That includes KC and me and D and...and...

Also remember that a written statement looks sometimes more bossy than when it would be a spoken word.

Please accept KC's efforts to have a paper on the table with some issues.

Some need to be addressed and some not.

Any one of you ,who has attended meetings will know that. This is only one of the founding meetings. There need to be some guidelines (during the meeting) otherwise it will (surely )die.

Later we will enjoy life, say hello to eachother while encountering in the streets and develop some new friendships :o

    Dutch,

I think that this project is starting abit like a bull in a China shop and is running before it can walk (so to speak), it would be alot better to have social events to start with and get to know the members (or potential ones) before even thinking of starting up this type of club as firstly everyone should vote for a chairman, but before anyone can do this they need to know them well enough and be confident in the person they vote for as afterall they need to trust them, know that they will do a good job of it and most importantly be happy with that person.

Guidelines and agendas and minutes are far far away in my opinion and tends to put people off at this early stage.

Just get a social going and see what people really think about getting more involved as otherwise interest will soon die away and no one will bother which would be a shame as this can really be a good thing but as the Thais say "die yen yen" (I think that is how you say it)

  18. OK, if thats what is wanted?

No formality, minutes, agenda or committee?

Derek has emailed to say that he has asked the Korat Farang website to be our home.

    So thats decided!

If everyone is happy to continue to conduct the Clubs affairs by website and the majority are in favour of the social at Non Thai, why have a meeting?

Hey KC I think you are going well over board with this, I was interested to join in but to me it looks like it is getting to be somewhat like jioning the Masons and I do not think your attitude is going to last as from what I can read everyone wants it to be more of a social and have fun and also get to know other farangs in the neighborhood.

I for one will now not be interested as there are too many negative things that you have posted and you are being to bossy to eveyone. Maybe you should chill out and let either Ken or Dutch head the commitee as they seem to be more or less on the right wave lengths as to what we are looking for.

I did not leave the UK to get back into politics but.... And I for one am enjoying my life here without the hassles and am a very good supporter of the village I live in and have made very good friends with the locals and had alot of help from them.

  19. Hi there!

Does anyone know of any old cheap trucks for sale?

I'm talking 20 yrs old or something, under 50,000 baht.

I've seen those little old Mazdas for 45,000bht and that is the sort of thing. If it had air con that would be a major plus, but my expectations are pretty low.

    example:2250500_40_full.jpg

Any old truck that drives would be ok. just looking for a working ride, cosmetics are NOT the key here for me.

I'm sure I could hook you up with a little finders fee at the Pasinee Bar or Ginza, depending on how you like your reward... :o

    Hi Loz,

Glad to see you are settling in well here in Korat.

A word of advise (from someone that has lived here for over 12 years), if you buy an old bangar for less than Bht 50,000 you are buying nothing but trouble as you will be breaking down (maybe in the middle of a busy highway) quite alot as bangers at this price will be worn out and you will be either spending a fortune on repairs and tow trucks or you will scrap it eventually. Even cars priced at Bht 100,000 will not be much good but at least they will be younger so parts not so worn out. I think you should either look to pay for a half decent car that will last abit longer but will have to invest Bht 150,000 + or rent one.

Renting would be better for you I think and you can get a pick up for about Bht 10,000 per month, let me know if this is what you decide as I have pickupfor rent.

All the best on your adventures.

    ShingDam

Please let me have his contact details but first please ask him if he would have the guys who built his pool on hand as I want to get building my one asap.

  22. Does anyone know of a good builder who can build a swimming pool for me in Korat as I would like to have one in my home and I have asked all of the Pool builders that advertise but they are in either Pataya, Phoket of Hua HIn and say it is too far to come.

I would appreciate it very much if anyone has had a pool built in Korat and if they have any pics it would be nice to look at and how much it cost to build and how long they took.

    Look forward to your replies.

    Just not for this,,

last year i got quote from 3 local UBON swimming pool buider's and ALL of them where more expesive than i got from PATTAYA.

Also there is no afterservice and limited 1yr qurantine

From Pattaya i got AUS quarantine for pool body 3yrs and pumps for 1yrs.

    Hi Marcoh,

Please can you advise if you get the company in Pattaya to come to Ubon to fit your pool, I see you mention that it is not yet installed so what size is it and will they come to instal it? If yes could you pass me their details as I am desparate to get one myself and if you do not mind can you let me know what it cost you.

    Thanks Paul
