  1. She has every right

Actually that is not the case.

Under the Thai Retail act a product/service provider cannot sell their product/service when they do not have the change to give to the customer, without informing the customer that they cannot give them the full amount of change that they are legally entitled to.

She did not have the 85 satang to give, because their is no denomination of coins that would amount to that. As such to continue the transaction she demanded an amount where she could not give the customer the change he was legally entitled to.

So no, she does not have every right. She had every right to refuse the transaction and the customer had every right to cancel it, but they didn't.

  2. No highway in that in that video, just 2 lane roads with road-level u-turns (even the ones the locals made out of dirt because they are too lazy to go to the proper ones and invariably drive the wrong way down the road to get to it) and numerous open entrances to properties.

Some clowns actually seem proud of their stupidity 555.

  3. I'm with the op to a degree. Although the bill needs to be paid whatever the amount, the lady should have at least given 75 satang change. I pulled the bank up on this while paying the internet for many years, which is such & such and 23 satang. They'd always ask for the extra baht and never give change. Over time through thousands of customers, the bank is making for nothing. That one can pay exact amounts through service providers is irrelevant as is the tiny amount we're talking about. Bottom line, somebody is getting something for nothing, and when it comes to the banks, they can swivel for even one satang!

Those 75 satangs would add up over 1000's of bills every month. Remember the case of the bank staff who skimmed 1 baht off 500,000 accounts. Who'd notice 1 baht missing. Well one or two obviously did. 500,000b added up nicely though.

  4. So you expect to pay less than you should because you don't have the right change?

It was impossible for him to have the 'right change', also impossible for the cashier to give him the correct change.

Time for a bun fight at the 'not ok corral' then?

Why do simple little problems get turned in to major issue here?

No, it's ok, the question was rhetorical.

Actually not as rhetorical you may think.

So many Thais have such repressed anger, coupled with deep seated inferiority complexes that they will often go out of their way to cause issues/problems whatever to help sedate their poor emotional and psychological state.

They may explode completely when the issue they created is turned back onto them, like the link I posted earlier to the 1 Baht Killer who killed a man because he refused to give him the 1 baht for the extra gas that was demanded of him.

The saying is 'Behind every smile is an angry Thai'. Not every of course, but a lot more than newbies like you may imagine. :)

  5. ^^ The last pic reminded me of the poor Lao girl that was cut in half by the Porsche 2 years ago, and her top half ended up in the passanger seat. After which the 19 yr old rich kid drove on for 10km with her top half next to him, then called his rich dad, who then called the police to say that it was stolen and told him to leg it. 300k bht to the mother and no charges.

Anyway, wonder if the lad on the bike in that pic was sliced in half by the roof.

  6. What does their clothing, their age, their loudness or the fact that they smoke have to do with the theft?

Type of clothing, loudness and smoking have everything to do with how one will be percieved by Thais, and thus how they will be treated.

    Thai 101.

Just look at the number of guesthouses saying No Israelis here due to the first two I mentioned.

Welcome to Thailand and Thais Sustento.

  7. I had an idiot walk out in front of me last week. 2 lanes each way, outside lane, they're looking the other way the entire time, I get on the horn immediately and start to emergency stage brake, BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP, nothing, the idiot must have had their iPod on. Only looked with the screech of the tyres after I had to emergency stop at which point my front tyre just kissed their leg. They didn't even look again just continued across the second 2 lanes as if nothing happened and I wasn't there.

You always have to be on your guard in Thailand. A non-closed off road and 200kph says a lot about the rider and riders supporting such behavior.

  8. $3000 savings after 16 yrs of work = average annual savings of $187.

No one to blame but himself. Can't people even teach English online nowadays? I've heard it's a big thing with Koreans. I think people earn $10-20 an hour. Not a lot, but if stuck he could try to get 4-6 hours a day. 2000b a day would help him, but some people can't help themselves, can they, it's everybody else's fault.
