  1. A Severe beating is trauma to the body no doubt about that one.

This will be a shock to the body no doubt about that one.

This can lead to the possibility of a heart attack. No doubt about that.

If the man had carried on playing Hi Lo would he have died from any causes or injuries..... we very much doubt that.

After a car crash you can die from your injuries and those injuries will be deemed to be the cause of your death.

But Hey the car crash was the cause of those injuries.

Was it really necessary to bludgeon this man?

  2. My heart breaks for these boys and their Parents ....from what we are allowed to know there is not any substantial damning evidence against them.

Their internment and death sentence makes me sick to my stomach.

This is a many headed monster with the need for real justice to be pursued ......

I do not believe they are culpable, and that in truth cannot be proved either way

Set them free is the decent and right thing to do.

  3. Yes, I believe shock is appropriate for a time, and then there is a time to act upon it.

According to modern pschology the ego is a necessary part of our life mechanisms, which is why the Buddha or the Prince

commented that the highest path was that of the family.

The middle path, because it required such a deft balance between

moderation, abstemiousness, and the exigencies and temptations of life and there are no more temptations available in this society

than those presented in the family. In other words, temptations most ordinary people can financially afford.

Especially the care of children and the elderly and what I have seen here in great abundance, is

those opportunities slain for the sake of money, greed, perversion and abuse at the family level.

Shocking is a good word for it, even if its not strong enough.

With respect this will be my last reply for it is a lengthy subject and worthy of much debate.

Buddha renounced all things in his search for enlightenment sex , money, title, and somewhere, after the time he attained enlightenment he said

"Do not worship me i am not a God if you want to be like me follow the path i have laid out" and bear in mind he was from Nepal not Thailand.

However Thailand adopted his teaching and have ever since worshipped him, totally missing his message of mindfulness of the Ego of which manifests itself in many forms in Thai culture.

    None more so than face.

In a nutshell they fail to see the folly of their ways (as do many of us do i might add)

    Regarding the Middle Way.

The middle way is less austere than the path Buddha took.

Approaching life via the middle way is mindful to my understanding inasmuch that it teaches us that to live a world full of Ego and that we have to have necessary Ego but dispense with the unnecessary Ego.

There are of course true and good advocates of his teachings here in Thailand usually in the mountains .... but it needs to be taught to the young properly in their school days.

As foreigners we have little or no say in that..... Peace

The word Buddha (for that was not his real name) means "fully awake" which as a man (a prince) is what he remarkably achieved.

Any monk not following the path that he laid out is asleep and living in Ego, for it was only by annihilating his Ego did he become and attain enlightenment.

So in answer to your question:

No this incident has nothing to do with Buddhism in any way shape or form and anyone following his teachings that then deviates from it is off the path.

The song is a great song but not all singers are great.

    reply to that

Point taken, obviously, but the question was rhetorical and I thought that would be obvious.

If you can't sing at all, and can't even grovel in key, then get off the stage.

Apart from the diligent attempts of a number of TV posters, how often do you see an editorial or thread or post commenting on the extreme disparity that exists in this country between the tenets

of their relgion according to the books, and ideologies of their much vaunted religion and the consistently violent attitudes of the followers?

Footnote. This is not Thaialnd bashing: The same may be said for other countries, but we live here and contrast makes this country interesting, but a man of peace is shocked by the differences in this area of life here. Its time the people got off their butts and started talking about it.

I believe we are all shocked.
  5. No means no, period.

That's true, but murder is not the right response either.

Whatever, whatever, is this Buddhism at its best?

  6. These two boys are headed towards the rocks of disaster and all decent folk feel a deep concern for them .... and how to avert that no one seems to know.

The murder of those two young decent holidaymakers was done in a manner of extreme hate and violence ...... Where would or how would those two Burmese boys develop motivation like that?

However if someone had an argument with the young lady and Face was felt to be lost ..... no more smiles just hate.

    Just saying!

  7. This woman is full of remorse ...She knows it's futile to say sorry ....For what's done cannot be undone and she will never be the same again.

She knows she was driving to fast and the margin for error was getting smaller, yet she did it.

The Wife and Family will never be the same a again ....... The whole thing is a great tragedy.

For those of us who drive and have driven at high speed ... we have got away with it and hopefully by experience we have gained Wisdom.

This woman didn't get away with it.

Nothing will cleanse that fact ...... not now not ever.

  8. I am in disbelief as to what some people think .......a knife is a no no FULL STOP.

If you pick up a knife to stab, the victim may live or they may not .... people can argue and disagree feel that they have lost face but in civilian life no one has the right to use a knife ...it's a weapon of potential death.
It's no good saying i didn't mean to kill ( that may be true or an easy lie) .... just a quarter of an inch to far in on a vital organ and death is very likely and everyone knows that! ......... this animal is and ought to be held accountable for his actions ...... he had no right to injure this girl in that manner and i hope she recovers fully ....... he is just a bullying bastard who would back away from a trained man.
There is no justification mate to use a knife in civilian life whatsoever .... Only in War.
Not on little girls for any reason whatsoever or any body unless it is a matter of life and death!
