  1. The whole thing sounds like a lot of rubbish to me, as most people know their are limits on the amount you can get out of a cash machine at any given time.

The only way you can get that amount is going inside the bank with the card and then you would have to arrange in advance to get that much money out and need more id.

so something does not seem wright?

No it isn't mate you should get out more..If you have a healthy account you can ask the bank to increase the 24 hour limit and they shall do so without question.

I see we got the usual Thais ripping off foreiner moans....No doubt his card would have a visa facility on it and if the guy acted as dumb in a European country he'd have bought a new wardrobe, a car, a yaught and a years shopping out of every supermarkets the thief could find by now.

Makes my blood boil wen idiots make out the Thais are any worse than the scum you come across back home.

For one so stupid he got off light.

  2. When you are in the limelight some idiot somewhere is going to come up with critism.

Never ceases to surprise me how some official somewhere in Thailand stands up and says something and everyone takes it he has the backing of all other officials.

Most of the time it's some clown trying to make a name for himself while Abashit (or whoever) sits in his office scratching his head and thinks what on earth is that idiot on about.

The media jump on things like this and blow it out of all proportion and all of a sudden it's representative of all Thai people.....In a pigs eye it is!!!!!!!!

Ask the girl sitting next to you..or the boy depending if that rattles your cage and they'll tell you they love this girl and think she sexy and as Nikster points out she got that loveable cheeky bit about her.

As far as Thailand exploiting their women goes? This girl can make mega bucks from modelling etc and gets to see the world.........exploit away says she!!!

  3. It would seem the experts ho say it is impossible for a lift to fall are and are not correct.

And to the knockers of Thailand who just can't help themselves This is not exclusive to Thailand lifts have fallen all over the world so it would seem the impossible is very possible.....to the stairs lads B)

When the Tower Bridge lift fell 10ft there were 16 people in the lift

Only 6 suffered broken legs and ankles the rest walked away unhurt.

Maybe some of out American friends have heard of the Empire State building? Cable broke and the lift plunged 400 (Four hundred feet)....of course that's impossible to.

Then there was the Fitzgeralds Hotel in Las vegas their lift plummeted 26 floors.

When this report said the lift plunged 10 storeys what they forget to mention is the speed of the so called freefall....pretty obvious the safety mechanism kicked in and saved the occupants from certain death.

I think the last few idiots who overcrowded the lift are to blame and are dam_n lucky the lift company and hotel did their part in maintaining the lift or they would all be dead.

  4. Actually Thais are very proud if they can afford a brand new vehicle and they love to how it keeping their red license plate as long as they possibly can, we know a thai BMW Series 3 owner who accepts to pay 'fines' as long as possible, he doesn't want to change for a white license plate, its over a year now and he still proudly presents his 'brandnew' car

Man someone help me, I got a ticket everytime I drove my new toyoto with the red plates. It took for ever to get the new white ones (at least 2 1/2 months or more) We did a lot of travelling and never stopped before dark. I just can't understand why you cannot drive at night with red plates. My girl friend could not explain it to me and the dealer did not speak english so had a problem. Every policeman I ran into looked at those plates if it was after 6PM and either a bribe or ticket was given. If they change it again how do you get those dealer type to get off their keawsters and get the tags for you. I plan to purchase a new truck soon and will go throught this again.

The reason you can't drive with red plates after dark is as obvious as the nose on your face.......... Can I ask why on earth did you let the dealer away with it?......don't have to be able to speak Thai to go to you local cop station and complain about the dealer who was legally bound to supply the plates within the given period.

  5. I'm not into Thai bashing..in fact most of the people I know who think all Thais are stupid are thick as two short planks, talk absolute garbage and to me are total toss pots who should bog off back home if they think the place is that bad.

However at the risk of being a total toss pot myself I have to confess this 10K fine with regards to tourist feeding Mr Chan is nuts.

The ones who should be penalized are the cops on duty who failed to notice this 8,000 pound monster strolling up the road from Surin to Soi Cowboy at 2 mph.

For me if 1 single tourist is fined in central Bangkok then the police and their failure to do their duty have a lot of explaining to do.

  6. If they just would legalize gambling, at least they could avoid billions of baht to 'escape' the country to Cambodia, Myanmar etc to the casinos.... !! Build casinos here or allow them and tax them, then Thailand government will have an extra-income to rebuild after the disaters of last month...

I think you could have something there, Thailand could do with the extra income. I don't recall any country, with legal gambling, that has'nt done well. Casino District ummm.

I read Thaksin was all for Casinos before he was ousted and Abashit isn't exactly against it but that's not to say it will happen.

While millions of Thais do gamble (mainly on football) millions don't and are dead against it.

I'm not a politician but if they change the law and allow Casinos wouldn't that open up the floodgates?

TBH I wouldn't mind seeing a really high class Casino open up and I'd be all for lifting all restictions from online gambling.

Not being a snob but the likes of Laddies or Hills opening up a betting shop in the likes of Pattaya? or a gaming machine parlours in Klongtoey? NO WAY!!! Can you imagine the clientel they would attract? Be pulling guns out their backsides.

God forbid that ever happens as IMVHO muggings or worse would multiply 10-fold overnight.

Obviously the Thai Government would love the extra income but to every upside there's a downside so don't be holding your breath.

  7. If they ban Betfair in Thailand I know alot of people will be in deep shit.

Betfair,Laddies and most of the Asian books online accept the big Thai punters.

The books on the street are more for the lower end 1000 baht punter.

Betfair don't allow financial transactions from a Thai ISP.

Funny that, I know loads who trade on betfair for a living in bkk. :)

And anyone Thai will probably have a entropay account to upload funds.

If they are horsie boys they could be struggling at the moment.

A friend who is having trouble bringing up the exchange for UK horse racing called round this morning to see if he could get on using my computer..........blocked!!!!

He can get into all the USA South Sfrican German horse racing but not the UK......seems strange but true.

He just called me to tell me he went to an internet shop and got on no problem........even stranger.

I suggested the Thai Authorities were aiming at the football sites and missed LOL

  8. I'm adding a patio to the side of the house.

The garden/grass is about 3" lower than the first step and I want to bring it up level.

Probably falls away to about 5" to the rear so the average would be about 4" deep.

The area I want to cover is about 12-14sq m.

Once completed I will be tiling has aynone any idea how much it should cost

per sq m for the basic concrete with steel reinforcing and footings?

    Thanks in advance.

  9. I'm currently with TRUE which I find excellent plus the service is A1.

However I am moving to an area where their max speed is 2meg which I couldn't live with.

Seems if I want a faster connection I have no choice but move to TOT.

Reading the comments on here all I can say is you're scaring the hel_l out of me :)

  10. c'mon!

how does a ragtag group of foreigners have the inside knowledge to have pulled off this caper? and why is half a million cash not being transported in an armoured car? and how did the boys in brown get the handphone numbers to track?

and oh yea, how is it they catch three members of the gang with nearly no money but not the one guy carrying all the cash? i mean how often does a gang of four thieves, after commiting a successful heist, entrust all the take to just one of their members? normally you'd think they would split the take and take off in four directions.

any single one of these things is possible. but put them all together, and it must be concluded that we are dealing with the higly improbable. the reported facts are either twisted, or somebody on high with an agenda commanded: "Round up the usual farangs."

I suppose if these guys were a dodgy lot back home the Columbian authorities would make the Thai Authorities aware they were heading their way. Wasn't that long ago someone was arrested for trying to take drugs out of the Country and the Thai police were told by the Aussie cops they were known small time dealers in their home country.

Massive amounts of cash changes hands in commercial banks and in certain money exchanges every day.......what stands out is they said it was company funds that had ben picked up from an exhange........reading through the lines those funds came from outside Thailand and would arrive hear in US dollars or pounds. With a large amount like that the differnece between money exchanges and bank rates can be massive......I would imagine that's why he was carrying it

If they had been watching them, getting their mobile numbers is a piece of cake. I believe all they need to do nowadays is tell the telephone company is your exact location while you are on a call and they can give them the number.

As far as splitting the money ways and off you go..........These aren't your average East End boys pulling a job for themselves. These are Columbians who came here on false passports. I doubt if this is their first time in Asia and I doubt the money would be spent on women and fast cars.

At a guess I'd say their friend has gone off to buy some talcum powder and arrange it's transport back to the USA or wherever, leaving the rest of the guys with expense money to get by until the next caper.

I could of course be totaly wrong but it seems a bit more logical than the masses of know it all Farang saying "The police stole the money"!!!! :)

  11. what the hey? how did a 44 year old employee end up with 17 million baht in his car? and how did the "alleged" robbers know that this money was in this car, and of course, the police only recovered 200,000 baht, but of course the rest was taken away by even yet another of the gang, yes? hmmmmm :)

Now lets see.............could it be he does the banking for Thaimart? :0) 12 m 260K sterling isn't exactly a fortune when it comes to a big company selling electrical goods now is it?

Who do Thaimart bank with? or should I ask how many accounts do they have and with which banks? damned if I know but I bet you anything you klike the Columbians did.

Some companies hire security companies to do their banking others uses trusted mebers of staff which attracts little attention.

I doubt if the cops grabbed the money that's just BS...unless of course you think the Thai Police are as stupid and some Farang are...like the Columbians in custody must know if the money isn't recovered their sentence is likely to be longer.

They'd be squealing like pigs if the cops had snaffled the money and if they were going to take the headlines would have been somewhat different......perhaps CLMBNS die in shootout like they do in the movies.

This stinks of someone from within the organisation tipping off these people of who did the banking and which banks......then all they had to do was wait at the first bank as he's not going to carry 12m if it was to be banked elsewhere into and out of a bank......ok so they only get some of the cash he's carrying but there's no violence and more time to get off their mark.

  12. Racism exists in every country in the world and Thailand is no different.

What differs is to what degree does it exist?

IMO In Thailand on a scale of 1 to 10 it would be about 3, in the USA about 9. and if your an Abo in Oz try about 10 out of 10. The Uk is getting there LOL

Not for one minute do I think Thais hate farang.........Most farang don't give a rats ass if you are an Aussie, American, African American, a Brit, a German, Swiss, French, Italian or whatever....we don't flock so basically we mix very well...........some cultures seem to flock together and take over the joint......as harmless as it might be it is always seen as a threat by locals and that's whether you stay in Texas or Thailand.

As much as it is not the aim of these people, it's what their culture and religion demands, unfortunately it brings instant dislike and mistrust...you could call it racism or fear of the unknown , but in the main it's self inflicted.

  13. Got tied up on the computer one night ran out of ciggies and forgot there was a curfew on.........Made my way downstairs ater midnight to go to 7Eleven.....felt like an idiot when the security guard asked me where I was going.

Time I was out police were round making sure everyone knew about the curfew. Absolute teaming down at 11pm and the police were A1.....they just asked how far we had to go and told us not to worry about being a little bit late.

Probably people in Europe, the USA etc were more concerned about it that those of us who live here.

  14. We've all had a go at the Thai police from time to time.

However tonight my firends and I decided to go to Soi Cowboy for a few beers.

Out of the blue the Thai Toursist Police arrived.......No guys they weren't looking for money.

A Thai policeman who had one star on his lapel and looked about 30 year old approached us. (turned out he was born in 1960)

Being of farang mind when I saw him pull out a large folder I thought: Here we go another give a a donation for injured Thais that goes straight into the bck pocket

Not a bit of it this guy gives us a form which outlines the Curfew Rules.

Then he spends 10 to 15 minutes expalining to us what to do and what not to do.................he was cheeerful, well mannered and his eplenation was that of a very educated individual.

He emphasised the importance of the curfew and explained how it was in everyones interest to abide by the law.

When he left Tilac a friend of ine who has no time for most Thais prasied this guy saying now there's a man who really cares about his job.

After visiting several other Farang he left to get on with the task at hand. Within the hour or so the skies opened up and Soi Cowboy looked like a pond had been planted in the middle of it.

No one was for moving and by 11.15 pm dozens of Thais and Farang waited in the hope of getting some transport home.

You always have it in the back of your mind that if the Thai Police catch me what are they going to do? Guess what ?

At 11.45pm I decided time to make a move and there I was plodding through puddles in the centre of BKK. Next thing I know out of the blue a policeman stops me and asks if I know there's a curfew on. Oh! Oh!

I told the policeman I had gone to 7 for ciggies but it had closed and then I got stopped in the rain.

I was thinking here we go when surprisingly the police guy pulls out a packet of cigarettes. hands me 1/2 a dozen and tells me to jump on his motorcycle.

The policeman took me right to my door would not take 1 baht for his trouble. He said not to worry Thailand now has a good man in charge and thing will be back to normal soon.

Never had a Thai discuss anything like that with me before so I was a bit shell shocked.

Is this the way forward or a one off? springs to mind

I'll give Abhisit his due though if this man genuinely wants to see Thailand prosper he's going about it the right way.

No doubt many of you will shoot me down in flames but my experience of the Thai police is they showed me today they care about their jobs aren't all out to rob you and they are right behind Mr Abhisit.

  15. That guy is the best excuse for a condom I've come across since coming to Thailand. Who breeds these people?

The Red Shirts are supposed to support the poor country folks but by their actions have put thousands of young girls who worked in these places out of work. Now the little bit of support they sent home each month is no more.........not the brightest way to go about helping your fellow Thais who kick with the same foot as you.

If this guy had anything to do with this I think they should be mercifuland just release him.....from the planet.

  16. If you understand Thai, you will understand that they are keeping the people informed of what they are doing. What is wrong with the government informing its people and for this using all channels to make sure everybody gets the information? Would you prefer some stupid soap operas as usual rather than to know what is about to happen?

The problem is, the Government arent telling the people exactly what is happening. They dont want them to know. Thats why they have taken over the TV stations and are showing them nothing.

    Thats dictatorship.

Any way you look at it Abhisit is finished.

  17. Was some fighting going on at the junction of Sukhumvit and Udom Suk but damned if I was going close up to find out what was what.

Who knows where they will turn up next.......... However if you are unlucky do get a cap in your ass please let Thaivisa know first :)

  18. Stolen? James Bond and the SAS combined couldn't pull off a stunt like that even working from a script.

Perhaps someone just made himslef a right few quid and the guns have gone bye bye to some foreign land who knows.

BUt go to the red shirts to get tooled up for a rally? Not unles they are planning a mass suicide.

They got guns and explosive but no mention of ammunition.

" You got one bullet each guys make em count" :)

Let's get real here....If 6000 farmers , rice workes and the 2 ugly ones from the Doll House turn up at the rally armed to the teeth then it will be the last rally they ever attend.

There are something like 80,000 soldiers in the Thai Army. It would be like a Sunday golfer taking on Tiger Woods and there would be only one outcome...No more red shirts.

So unless the Red Shirt leaders are totally dumb, which I am sure they are not then it just isn't going to happen.

Maybe I'm naive but I can't see why anyone would want to start a fight that would destroy a movement they are trying to build.

  19. Has anyone ever worked out just how much of his fortune was gained from corruption and whether he did actually make a couple of million reasonably fairly ?

Can't see this ending well whichever way it goes.

I dare say a lot of his business deals were perfectly honest ones but the money used to set them up came from where?

Way the powers that be look at it is if you made money from coruption, anything you make from there on in falls into the same category.

You make one phone, go to a meeting your car, do anything that's paid for by illgotten gains and that new deal you just did is then corrupt.

If they get his money then he is stuffed, but will they? No chance!!! but I bet his ATM card has stopped working :)
