Just remember the official legal answer is not always the actual and  "in practice" answer. Sadly too many will see you and immediately take the beneficial route for them, not you !

Therein lies the issue, get a referral to a "decent" firm/person.

Your current status enables you to tack on a work permit I believe, whereas a "retirement" would not. Ask your questions in that forum too, you can make an informed decision.

Our Visa section of the forum will guide you on your options in that regard.

Thanks Charlie, i will pursue that course you suggested, we are friendly with the Local mayor here, i will seek his advice on which company i can trust.

    Cheers.

I strongly suggest you speak to a qualified professional, who not only advise on company but may also assist in directing you toward required work permit/visa status etc

Hi Charlie, Thanks for the advice, I have been in contact with different Lawyers and accountant firms, but there is conflict with the information they are giving me, some say there has to be 4 Thai Directors and me, others say 1 Thai director and me, on the 51% to 49% ratio of ownership, that's the only thing these companies offer that they agree on.

Currently i am on an extension based on Marriage, i would assume i can keep that status when running a company...   or is it necessary to switch over to a Business Visa? Again my question to these companies who say they can set up a company -- some say keep existing extension, but others say i must switch over to a business visa.

  3. There are many ways to get info out of the country, any 'smart techs' involved in communications know the tricks.

Shortwave 'Burst' systems are probably the easiest way. Myanmar distance to Thailand over a small river, 100 mtrs at best. Easy TRX - RX install, only risk is the person at the TRX end. Shortwave can be found reasonably easily, but  'Burst' systems almost perfect. But nothing is perfect. Judging by some comments i read here - indicates we have some very smart people here. Other older technology can fly under the radar as well.

Personally i wouldn't recommend doing anything to get info out of the country, there be dragons.

  4. 50% of the increase in deaths was attributable to RTA's so there's one big risk area, in that respect yes, Thailand is becoming more dangerous.

But risk is relative to the individual based on lifestyle age and agenda. The younger guy who engages in risky practices, thrill sports, gets loaded etc is going to have a far higher risk profile than the expat retiree who stays home and prunes his orchids all day, personally I reckon is quite risky for younger tourists, sadly. Me, I'm into orchids.

    Nice comment, good to see.

  5. Somehow I just don't buy this scumbags version of events.

    why do you suspect suicide?

whats to doubt? they were shagging, he killed her, he confessed.

what is his angle on lying?

My Thai wife just mentioned this terrible act, she has read on one of her social sites that he may have raped her....i think there is a lot to this story that he isn't saying and possibly made up this whole story---remember saving face, doesn't want to be seen as a rapist.... strange thinking i know, but TIT.

  6. You will be able to get the extension in your old passport if your new one has not been received in time to do it.

Not doubting your experience and knowledge here, but that may be correct with UK passports, but i can guarantee that is not the case with all countries, i have experienced this with my Aus passport, when applying at the Embassy they took my old passport and cut of part of the passport rendering it useless and they informed me that i had no passport till the new one came in the mail. They did however make a photo copy of the old one, stamped it with Embassy logo. almost making it a legal document.

  7. Everyday recently i start to look forward reading TV, i am not surprised by what i read - i am just reminded. Maybe i should use that as my spiffy little saying at the end of my comments.

I just need someone to tell me how to make it a permanent comment at the bottom of my comments.....or maybe i will look to see if i can figure it out.

i am not surprised by what i read - i am just reminded - me :)

  8. I have used the same pictures every year for the last 3 years only changed when I moved .

Every office is different. It is not helpful to state your experience at one office.

Yes, every office is different, every officer is different, sometimes it maybe even depends on sympathie/antipathie. If they want new photos they want them. Last week i went for three extensions to the N.Pathom IO, done in 15 minutes. They didn't care about the photos, as there is no real need for them anymore since they take pictures at the IO and they can compare them on the screen with the ones from last year.

I don't think you arewriting about the same photos mentioned in the OP or my post. Not sure how immigration would be able to do the photos in and around the house at an immigration office.

No need for the photo's to be in and around the house, this is something that the individual Immigration office's may ask, but not at Chiang Mai Immigration. Was there today and they are happy to accept any photo taken at any location as long as it is you and your spouse.

  9. My pension is about 35-36,000 baht per month.

I know I only need 800K baht for visa, but we do not need this extra money now, and it is earning about 1200 baht interest a month, which the bank taxes and transfers the balance to my running account.

I have never seen any rules showing less than 80K anyway. What is my minimum?yoi

You need 800K -or- 65k/month pension.

You could also use a combination method...if a pension of 35K then you would only need 380K in the bank.

    Financial Requirements are as follows:

    • Bank Account showing THB 800,000
    • Monthly income of at least THB 65,000
    • Combination (Bank Account + Income x 12 = THB 800,000)

So you only need to have 380 K in the bank. Much better I think !

Question - are you sure about the 65K a month pension requirement? i think not!

  10. I have to admit, each time i read these sorts of 'stories' i walk away confused, what proof do any of you have that backs what you write??? 2 mil in bank account? married to a Thai person 1 mil? or even the claim that the government send out people to spy on you.....etc etc etc....

Based on my own personal experience -

Set up company need a Thai to hold 51% no talk of 4 Thai's------- also payed up capitol of 2 mil.... that can be used any way you see fit to spend it legally. As long as the business still holds some money in the bank and is not bankrupt. (Owner si responsible for all debts)

But the payed up capital for new business now is 3 mil, as pointed out by my Lawyer/ accountant. (Looking at starting up another business)

now this claim of people being investigated, personally i have not met anyone yet that has had this done, and i know a lot of people in business..... but this doesn't mean it hasn't happened, i would love to hear of personal experience on this count.

Please someone restore my faith in this forum.

and to follow on with this tradition of piffy sayings:

Everyone is entitled to my opinion

  11. For what it is worth - I couldn't upgrade to win 10 because i had 7 ultimate.... but just last week i received a message that i could now upgrade to win 10 pro, i did just so and i am more than happy with the way 10 pro operates, it has been seamless not only on the upgrade but also as an operating system. but maybe i am one of the lucky ones.

FYI I am using a HP Pavilion dm1 more than 5 years old and working just fine.
