  1. I've been married to my Thai wife for twenty years now and looking back there were many hurdles to overcome. The language barrier didn't exist for us, I was fluent before we met, but the cultural differences really had to be worked on. After a few years, I realised my wife didn't know how to think critically, so I taught her. She didn't know how to plan, so I taught her. She didn't understand the ways of the world or technology, so I taught her. Having said that, a girl from a poor farming family who left school at nine, has taught me so much about life!

I consider it to be a balanced relationship as she has helped me to learn so much about myself. I have always felt that I hit the jackpot when I met her and all of my friends (Thai and foreign) have echoed this.

"thinking critically" ... thats exactly it ... any tips on how to teach her that skill?

  2. I am from Victoria. Got marrfied 2 months ago. Registered it 3 weeks later with her using my last name. Changed her name everywhere - banks, employer, social security, id card ... really easy including passport. Bought a house also no issues except I had to sign something at the land office as her husband but that would have been the case regardless of name. All in all it was a bit of running around but no issues at all. I am a retired lawyer and while this is only just my theory I believe Canadian immigration will take her application even more seriously when they see my last name on all her docs. Maybe not so much in practice but perhaps psychologically. Thats not why we did it but it can't hurt. We both like the idea of her first name going with my mine. Don't do it for stategy but don't not do it out of concern for anything.

  3. We are looking for a fairly decent 1 or 2 storey house in the city of Buriram with 500,000 down and looking for vendor financing for the remainder. Good solid Canadian credentials. No problem with worth or credit. For persoanl tax purposes I wish to finance the property but not bother with the hassle of the banks. If you have a house that is reasonably priced for the value of what you have, and are interested in taking back a mortgage let me know.

  4. We were actually able to reach Khon Karn by phone 3 days ago and then were advised they were able to process all applicants same day but as more people find out its open and not so busy that could quickly change ... We thought about going next month but if the servers in Bangkok go down the provinces will be closed again ... The little extra effort in Korat was still a lot better than the trek to Bangkok would have been
