  1. I can highly recommend Papinporn Language School, their course is well-structured and they don't forget that learning a language should be fun. I've attended the course several time and always enjoyed it, more than the school in Bangkok I used to go to. The school used to be in Ao Nang but is now located in town as far as I know. Contact the owner Khun Geaw. 075-623443.

    Hope I could help

    Cheers

Don't forget to mention I recommended them, maybe I get a discount next time I go there. :)

  2. Hi,

could any of the admins please update the overstay information on the front page of thaivisa.com. I'm talking about the famous http://www.thaivisa.com/303.0.html

This page still states that the fine is 200B per day, but actually now it's 500B per day afaik. In addition, according to a sign at Immigration in Don Muang, when you reach the maximum fine of 20,000B, you will be blacklisted (no re-entry) for one year. With the new fees, this situation is reached within 40 days. Your pages still don't mention that.

I'm sure most of you know this already, but since http://www.thaivisa.com/303.0.html is mentioned quite a lot here, this page needs an update IMO.

    Cheers

  3. Why is it guys like you are only concerned about losing your girls. I wager not one of you would be in Thailand if not for the cheap sex and news laws like this only threatens your farang lifestyles.

    Sorry, but...

    1) these beer girls don't have anything to do with sex. If you think they do, you should ban models posing for fashion, too.

    2) they've got nothing to do with farang lifestyle. At least I've never seen such beer girls in a 'farang' country. This a very Thai thing and one of the things I like about Thailand: customer-friendly, convenient service

    3) I'd guess Thai people outnumber foreigners by 10:1 in these beer gardens anyway. Farang lifestyle? I can imagine tens of thousands of Thais fearing of losing their 'farang' lifestyles. Plus, thousands of girls (and a few guys) losing their small job.

I completely agree with these news proposals and hope the Thai government implements them very soon. I heard no outcry when they cracked down on tobaco advertising so whats the difference?

The difference? Smoking is proven to be unhealthy, so IMO it's ok to ban its promotion. I'd even find it acceptable to ban smoking completely, but that would just bring about black markets and wouldn't help solving the problem.

Alcohol, if consumed responsibly, won't harm you. Unfortunately many Thais drink inresponsibly. Banning promotion of advertising won't prevent the consumption of the home-made poison in Upcountry. It won't stop drunk drivers either.

Taking measures against these two problems would be effective but very hard to realize, given the corruption and laissez-faire attitude of police and authorities.

It's sooo much easier to ban the promotion of alcohol. Hooray, we've solved all problems. Ok, people will still drive drunk. Ok, they can still buy cheap and strong alcohol. But at least we don't see it on TV anymore. What a b_s_.

Whats up guys...feel threatened? They are not proposing a ban on drinking, only advertising. As they do in most western countries.

Not in mine. And besides, the ban on drinking will be next, if you just think of the ridiculous Thai Beverage case...

What's the point? If you want to prevent drunk driving, then check drivers more thoroughly. How come I've never seen the police use breathalyzers here? Instead of cracking down on irresponsible people, now everyone is going to be affected - again.

  4. Went to Makro yesterday and they wouldn't sell me a bottle of wine because it was 4:40pm.  If I wanted the wine I would have to wait the 20 minutes or buy 10 litres.

REVOLT! REVOLT! REVOLT!  Out with the old ways!  Down with the elitists!

The 2-5 pm ban isn't new, it was introduced at least a year ago. And it was certainly enforced by Tops, Lotus, Big C, Carrefour and 7-11, but I'm not sure if it applied to bars and restaurants.

I've never seen the point in this regulation, since a serious drinker will know the law and stock up on drinks before 2 to "bypass that dry season", so it won't keep them from getting drunk. For occasional consumers like myself it's just annoying to have to wait until 5 or buy 10 liters of whatever kind of booze.

I wish I could read the gov's mind...

  5. Passport and short form to one of the totes that sells sim cards.  I had my gf do mine .

It was reported since July if I recall.

ditto for me.....only i was with her when the form was filled out and added to the huuuge pile the shop assistant had in tuc com in pattaya.

i wasnt brave enough to ask what happened to the pile of forms she already had.

I registered my phone some 2 weeks ago. All I had to do was write down my name and my passport number. The form was in Thai, but the staff was very helpful. Actually, too helpful...

SHE DID NOT WANT TO SEE MY PASSPORT! I feel much more secure now... :o

This and the questions of stolen phones, unregistered numbers from countries other than malaysia, bombs set off by the alarm function, render this huge bureaucratic action useless. Add it to the list of Emperor Thaksin's achievements.

  6. Hi,

I've been to Nam Nao Park recently with a couple of friends. The park is beautiful with a good campground. You can get all the camping equipment you need at the site. Cool! Plus they have small Thai restaurants, cheap and good food.

If you wanna know more, I've got a report about the trip on my website. :o You'll also find lots of photos from the park. It's at http://travelsite.free.dnes.de/Travel/Thai...boon/index.html

    Have a good trip anyway...

    :D
