  1. We recently visited HK and China and in various discussions it was obvious that the Chinese now consider Thailand a no-go area.

We live opposite a hotel that previously had 29+ coaches in the car park most mornings, this last season there was at the most half that number and usually only 3 or 4.

Chinese being abducted, killed crossing roads all result in the Chinese voting with their bookings and taking their money elsewhere.

  2. We regularly leave three bikes from April through to October. The two Honda's usually start first time. The Suzuki battery is always flat.

This last time however rodents had a good gnaw at the wiring on one of Honda's (and all the  windscreen washer pipes on the car) so we are rethinking our strategy. Never had an issue with fuel going stale but it does evaporate.

  3. I live in a fairly large condo complex in Pattaya where there are a good number of Russian tenants. It had been obvious for some time that they are operating a number of operations like this. Car rental (usually of vehicles they themselves have rented) Airport Taxi services (with rented vehicles), Maid services. We have even had children offering daily trash removal services. Some are advertised on notice boards and I had assumed that the rest are via Line and WhatsApp groups.

Yes, but you can just change the registration to your local DLT and then transfer the owner there.

The ride to Bangkok wasn't necessary, you could have done the transfer yourself in Chonburi, costs 100 baht or so for the new license plate. 3000 sounds like a ripoff.

The second cost THB 3000 for transfer of title and re-registering in Chonburi. Alternative was to take the bike back to Surin. The first I did the registration myself after transferring title in Bangkok. My view is that if you cannot speak Thai, LTO's are almost impossible to deal with.

  5. Transfer has to be done at the LTO where the bike is registered.

I've bought two bikes from out of province. Bangkok + Surin. I live in Chonburi.

First one the guy rode the bike down to me with all the paperwork but I had to ride it back to Bangkok to change title. The second I bought in Surin  and used an agent at Banglamung LTO to transfer title and re-register in Chonburi. Cost me about THB 3000.

I re-register to avoid having to go avoid the hassle of getting to the original LTO when I sell the bike.

If you are needing the name of the Chonburi agent I used , let me know.

  6. I am trying to find a definitive answer to the question, "Can the bank account which maintains a balance of THB 800K be in joint names with the Thai wife?".

A friend has posed the question as part of his re-organisation of his financial affairs. His concern is that, on his death his pension income will terminate, it will take a period of months, sometimes more than a year for probate to be obtained and for his wife to be able to access his assets, all of which are bequeathed to her in his Thai will. He would like her to be a joint account holder on the THB 800k account (which he will no longer require for Immigration purposes) and at least have that money to tide her over until all the formalities are finalised.

Thanks in advance for all input.

  7. Went for Christmas 2018 and curtailed holiday on Christmas Eve. Gang gun fight 100 metres from hotel, beach made a building site look tidy, people begging everywhere.

Some excellent live music in a couple of bars. Women just as pushy as Pattaya with the same range of beauties and non beauties. Alcohol about same as Thailand. Friends have since told me that Cebu is not the best city for a first Philippines visit.

  8. An ex of mine (ex because she had no money sense at all and I tired of bailing her out) did get seriously (face beaten to permanent disfigurement) beaten because of the money she owed.

For months I had very unsavoury characters hanging around my condo looking for her.

These are not your normal type debt collectors we encounter in the west
