Yes, but you can just change the registration to your local DLT and then transfer the owner there.

The ride to Bangkok wasn't necessary, you could have done the transfer yourself in Chonburi, costs 100 baht or so for the new license plate. 3000 sounds like a ripoff.

The second cost THB 3000 for transfer of title and re-registering in Chonburi. Alternative was to take the bike back to Surin. The first I did the registration myself after transferring title in Bangkok. My view is that if you cannot speak Thai, LTO's are almost impossible to deal with.

  2. Transfer has to be done at the LTO where the bike is registered.

I've bought two bikes from out of province. Bangkok + Surin. I live in Chonburi.

First one the guy rode the bike down to me with all the paperwork but I had to ride it back to Bangkok to change title. The second I bought in Surin  and used an agent at Banglamung LTO to transfer title and re-register in Chonburi. Cost me about THB 3000.

I re-register to avoid having to go avoid the hassle of getting to the original LTO when I sell the bike.

If you are needing the name of the Chonburi agent I used , let me know.

  3. I am trying to find a definitive answer to the question, "Can the bank account which maintains a balance of THB 800K be in joint names with the Thai wife?".

A friend has posed the question as part of his re-organisation of his financial affairs. His concern is that, on his death his pension income will terminate, it will take a period of months, sometimes more than a year for probate to be obtained and for his wife to be able to access his assets, all of which are bequeathed to her in his Thai will. He would like her to be a joint account holder on the THB 800k account (which he will no longer require for Immigration purposes) and at least have that money to tide her over until all the formalities are finalised.

Thanks in advance for all input.

  4. Went for Christmas 2018 and curtailed holiday on Christmas Eve. Gang gun fight 100 metres from hotel, beach made a building site look tidy, people begging everywhere.

Some excellent live music in a couple of bars. Women just as pushy as Pattaya with the same range of beauties and non beauties. Alcohol about same as Thailand. Friends have since told me that Cebu is not the best city for a first Philippines visit.

  5. An ex of mine (ex because she had no money sense at all and I tired of bailing her out) did get seriously (face beaten to permanent disfigurement) beaten because of the money she owed.

For months I had very unsavoury characters hanging around my condo looking for her.

These are not your normal type debt collectors we encounter in the west

He doesn't have to do the TM30 report when coming back to Jomtien IF he's living in Jomtien and have a last reported address there. He just do the next 90 days report and he's back on track again. And the TM28 is a Change of Address, and nothing you have to do when travelling in Thailand.

Yes he does if............... he is staying at a private residence in Buriram for  24+ hours because the owner has to report him as staying at that address which remains the recorded address on Immigration records. I spent a good few months to and froing to Buriram on a twice weekly basis and was told this by both Immigration offices. It was a pain in the a**e.

  7. Cardboard is probably the culprit. When I was vitalling for ocean passages we removed all packaging and washed all fruit and veg in Milton to ensure not even an insect egg came aboard.

Having said that, I somehow managed to bring a live rat into my 7th floor condo a few years back. It hid in a plastic case of soda water.
