  1. I am an American and I am an artist (was an art teacher for a while here too, a few years back). I am moving my wife, our son and myself back to the States soon. In the mean time, I have been packing up 7 years of art I have made here and there is some personal stuff that we want to take with us as well. I am very good at packing as I used to be an art mover and shipper in NYC, so I am almost finished with packing and looking at what to do for a crate. I am thinking of using a big cardboard tri-wall container, like on this page. tri-wall dot co dot th/index.php?lay=show&ac=article&Id=53896511 I wrote them an email today in English and didn't hear back. This is better IMO because it wouldn't have to be treated wood or fumigated (which needs paper work to follow it around and would be heavier).

Anyway, I have figured out about what it weighs (150kilos or so), it's estimated inside dimensions 221cm x 76cm x 108cm (LxWxH), I was even able to figure out its CBM (cubic meters) 1.81, I am working on a full list of all contents and plan on putting pictures on the outside of packed art works. The problem I am having now is how in the heck to get it out and through all the customs both here and back in the US. I don't want to pay more than I have to, as it is all my stuff. There is a few objects that are "used personal effects, 6 months old" but most of it is my art works (paintings drawings and sculptures, some of which are made from coconut shells although they are all painted). Also, I have some art supplies.

I did a search on xpress rate but it couldn't be for personal effects (which it is) and it came in around 1000$ USD for what I assume was a sea rate since it took 35 days. I don't mind it taking that long or paying that much going by sea but it makes me anxious as I have read some things about things getting hung up at port (and being charged storage at government rates while there). The air rates are like 3 times and more than this. Also, I am concerned about my things that are made of wood and coconuts and on wood stretchers. Does anyone have any kind of experience with this kind of a situation or know any one who has?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  2.

It would be much better if he could get the single entry non-o visa before entering the country. They are less likely to make problems for him than with a visa exempt entry.

He can get the single entry non-o visa based upon being the parent of a Thai anywhere his age does not matter. At an honorary consulate in Germany he might even be able to get a multiple entry non-o without the legitimization.

Are you sure he cannot get a new passport without returning to Germany?

I'm pretty sure, that he would be able to obtain a new passport at any German embassy. In Germany he will just get it faster. Right now, he will just receive a travel document, that will allow him to leave the country, after paying the fine for his overstay.

Do you see any disadvantages to travel to Germany and apply there for a new passport and a non-o visa?

I think it would be that different Embassies have different policies... we know what the ones around here now do, in an up to date manner. In Vientiane for instance you don't have to show real legitimate proof of father hood (by Thai standards) or have money in the bank (although if you have it I don't know why you wouldn't want them to know and see that, to avoid any small problems). You can also fly there from here.

  3. I second what ever Ubon Joe says, he knows. He has helped me in threads on here with excellent advice. I am not sure if I would want my stamps and stuff in a temporary passport (although the overstay might be okay :) ). I don't see lost passport on the German embassy website though so I don't know how it is done by them. For a US one you can get it on an ASAP basis.

  4. I also have a Thai son and just got an O visa at the Thai counsolet Vientiane yesterday (fiancee's house book, fiancees and child's page in the book copied too, I also took a copy of my lease since we don't live in her hometown, copy of her ID card signed... there is a thread for non o visas that tells you all the paper work but I was overly through), but he will need a passport to put it in.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/381917-how-to-gain-parental-rights-as-a-father/

The 20000 baht at the airport doesn't sound like a problem....I would have bank records with me too (I took a years worth) and on my paper works I wrote not employed (which I am not, so while that kind of sucks in a way, I am being legal, I don't know where his money comes from).

He should look at the thread about new rules for overstay that I saw the otherday on here. That sound very problematic, he could be barred for 5 years (I think)

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/744965-thailand-immigration-confirms-new-overstay-rules-are-now-official/    wrong look below :)

He should also look at the thread about what is legal as far as being a legally reconized father and what is necessary to get married (legally at an amphor, depending on the child's age).

As an American I will have to get a US affidavit from my embassy saying I am divorced and another saying I am free to marry and then take that to the Thai cousolet here and have it stamped/legalized (plus translation I think, haven't done this yet, myself).

Read the site and search, all that info is on here. I feel for him if he has to go but he should really look into all of these issues and take care before just going. Best of luck to him, I know I wouldn't want to go and not be able to come back for 5 years.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/745684-still-time-to-clear-your-overstay-without-blacklisting/

hah! just found this so I would advise get a passport and all the right paper work to go to Laos! before September. Sorry for the panicy list of the thread above.

  5. ... I did get my extension of stay based on my Thai child. That runs out the day after tomorrow and I will be going up to Vientiane to get my non o based on being the father...

Why don't you just get a new one-year extension of stay at your local immigration office?

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Not married, don't have paper that says I am legal father (in Thai government eyes), story from before is in the thread above....

  6. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Don't NCA normally use two drivers anyway?

I have never heard of Nakonchai tour, however, Nakonchai Air buses have two drivers AND change drivers halfway.

That said, if it iwas indeed a Nakonchai Air bus, that would be number three accident in one year......

Yikes, I am taking one tomorrow night from BKK to UdonThani. Never used them before, I sort of don't want to know this crap, even asked for a seat further back in the bus as I hate watching them drive.

  7. Hello again, I have been reading all these threads the last couple of months..... I did get my extension of stay based on my Thai child. That runs out the day after tomorrow and I will be going up to Vientiane to get my non o based on being the father. I am again taking all the same paper work. But there is a small concern for me because I was at the time of my extension doing monthly visa runs (6 or 7 in a row with a 60 day before that and three years of overstay before that, long story but it happened). So up until now, I have had not had a Non O. Think there will be any problem? I was obviously doing what was most affordable at the time but had no reason or want to scam the system. I just needed the money I saved that way and they were allowing it. I was also painfully unaware of the rules about children.

    As always thanks in advance.

One last thought I will be coming back into Thailand by bus again, will that matter?

  8. Yikes, so back to my question in the beginning if I don't have an O visa now as it is an extension and I will just be getting my O visa when I go to Laos on July 23rd and then only if I go back to Laos again (and not get the extension based on the child again for 2 months) 3 months after that, will I be able to apply for the CR-1 abroad. (which you need at least 6 months of and O, ED or a B visa for)?

I will be trying to get married somewhere in that time but the marriage visa, does it even figure into this (in other words do I really even need that ?) because after we are married and have filed the CR-1 my plan is to go back ahead of them and try to do things that establish my domicile as we will be using a cousin and/or my sister as co-sponsors for the CR-1 visa. I also need to find a job, apartment and set up our life there as fast and much as possible (I have been away from the US for 8 and a half years now 7 of which have been in Thailand, so I don't have a residence or property etc...).

Sorry, if that is confusing but I am trying to articulate while still wrapping my head around the question as I ask it.

  9. Silly maybe stupid question but it is called a non O because it is a non immigration O visa right? I mean it is an O visa in reality, isn't it? I just ask because it is better to ask a stupid question than make a stupid mistake. And does the stamp I get ever tell me which visa I have? Looking through my passport, I just don't see that there.

  10. In order to get the one year extension or a multiple entry non-o visa you will need to have your parenthood legitimized by the court because your child is is not old enough to do it at the Amphoe.

You can go to Vientiane or Savannakhet and get a single entry non-o based upon being the parent of a Thai child. You just need their birth certificate and house book. This would give you a 90 day entry that you could extend for 60 days at immigration.

By the time those 5 months end you could have the legitimization done or of gotten married and you could then apply for the one year expression.

    Thanks :)

  11. You are on a O visa that gave you a permit to stay and you can extend that permit to stay. If you have an extension of stay that will meet the requirements to file the I-130 in Bangkok.

But is seems to me that you got a non-o visa in May at Savannakhet. But have not got the extension yet at immigration.

If you went to immigration in May that was to early to do it (45 days early is the max),

I suspect the longest extension you will be able to get is 60 days. But you will have to get the proof of residence problem sorted out.

Then you would have to go out for another single entry non-o visa. Unless you have gotten married by then and can qualify for the one year extension of stay.

No, I haven't gone to Savannakhet yet, I got the 60 day extension at immigration here in BKK. Before that I was doing monthly border runs the last 6 or 7 months. I haven't ever been to Savannakhet. I didn't know about the extension to stay (for being the parent of a Thai child) until reading on this board in May before and during the coup. My stamp from April was coming up at that point and I was trying to find out what to do and saw a thread about being a parent. My kid is already 2 years and three months old. I probably would have used that option before if I did.

I assume you mean I need to go to Savannakhet when this extension is up and I can't apply for a year (at all?). But I am wondering why it was mentioned in the read I quoted above my post. I could certainly go to the Amphor before my visa is up this coming month.

And no I haven't found a way of getting a copy of my lease with out asking. Still thinking about whether I want to do that. For one thing. I don't want to commit to another year or pay more for the ****hole I live in.

BTW thanks for the reply and sorry I made it confusing.

  12. Do they also issue multi non O based on having children instead of based on marriage?

They will but you must be the legal father of your child by way of marriage to their mother or legitimization of your parenthood by way of a court order or an Amphoe.

Ok, thanks. Legitimization by my embassy and PP of my country does not count I guess?

I assume you mean your were able to register you child's birth at your embassy under the laws of your home country in order for them obtain citizenship. That would not be considered legitimization here.

Info about legitimization of your parenthood is here. How To Gain Parental Rights As A Father

Being the legal father of your child would also allow you to apply for a one year extension of stay at immigration.

Hi this quote above is from another thread (I think it was worry free non O from Savannakhet but I closed the window, sorry). In any case I have a few questions. I am the father of a Thai child, we also did the necessary paperworks and DNA test for him to be my son under US law and he has a born abroad certificate and US passport now (we are planning on going to the US in as soon as the near future as we can more below). I also have been having 1500$ US being transferred into my bank here over the last year, monthly, So that is over the 40000K baht they require.

I have been reading threads on here and it is confusing me and frankly making me a bit cross eyed now.

So my current visa was obtained May 23 (the day after the coup) before this for the last 6 or 7 months I had been doing the Jack Golf thing to Poi Pot as it was the cheapest option at the time and I didn't even know about the non O as result of having a child, to be honest. I read and posted on here and got advice, so now I am back as my next issue is less than a month away.

Now thinking about the future, I am going to get married with in the next few to 6 months.... I plan on trying to get a US visa CR-1 (for my wife to be) through the Bangkok US embassy. One of the conditions for filling that aboard is having an O, ED, or B for CR-1 as such cases filed with USCIS Bangkok are taking about 3-4 months from filing of the initial petition with USCIS to visa interview at the Embassy

but you need to have had your O, ED or B for 6 months prior to do this.

When I went to to my extension of stay in May, I filled out the (I think it was called a) TM7.

So my first question is, is that an O visa that I got? I assume it is but no where on the stamp does it say that (simply says extension to stay), also can I based on being my child's father get a year long visa (here in Bangkok)?

When we went to immigration last month they said I could not do a one month extension (when this expired) when I asked. And they also asked for my lease which was eaten by termites a few years ago and I don't want to bother our landlord (and didn't) about having a new one because well.... she is a hassle, an absentee land lord and our actual lease ran out like 3 years ago, I think she would take the opportunity to raise our rent and she would know I have no way of proving I paid a security deposit.

Anyway. last time we ended up get a statement from a neighbor saying we live here written on a copy of his ID by telling them our L.L. was unavailable, as she does spend a lot of her time up north. Immigration didn't like that much though and they sort of yelled at my GF about doing that.

My GF does have her home paper but since we live here and not there they said that wasn't enough. So the essence of my questions: do I have to go to Savannakhet? If I do does that mean I have to go every 3 months? From the quated above it sort of sounds like I should be able to get a year at Chaeng Wattana or am I not reading it correctly?

Sorry, as I just said it's confusing (and I have been reading numerous posts) and I just want to get answers and get out of here asap. Thanks in advance for your replies.

  13. Actually picking on the taxi drivers and motorcycles seems short sighted. If they went on strike (as a very good percentage of them are red) they could bring the whole of BKK and at least parts of the country to a very fast stop. I am not sure they have thought of that yet tho.

  14. So we went to LP immigration today with all forms and copies, The young woman there (once we found where to line up) looked over our paper work and said Mia Dai, you must have your rental agreement with these papers. My GFs home paper is from her hometown in Surin.

I don't still have a copy of my lease because about 2 or 3 years ago we had termites and they ate all of my important papers. We don't ever talk to the landlord anymore because when something goes wrong with the house, she simply refuses to take care of it.....We had an issue with the electricity a while back and she said she wouldn't pay for it. And when we got it fixed for much less than we thought it would be, she still only agreed to pay 50%. We haven't bothered her since and haven't heard from her since either. In any case my lease was only for a year and that was 4 years ago, I don't want to tell her I don't have it anymore as I do want my security deposit back when I leave and this is the first time I ever needed a copy anyway.

So the woman at immigration said well you can get someone (we are going to ask a neighbor who works until 4:30) to write that they know us and can say that we live here in Bangkok. We will just have to get a copy of their house paper and ID. I told her we have bills that I can get copied (but electric and phone are in landlady's name, internet is in ours) and I could come back in an hour with them but she said no. She also said that I wouldn't have to pay overstay if I come in Monday with it as it was only one day (which isn't correct my visa expires tomorrow) so Sunday and Monday are 2 days.

I would go back if we could get it (agreeing and copying) done fast but there aren't even any copy machines around my soi that I know of, so add an 20 minutes or 1/2 hour to our time, Plus traffic between here and there and we might make back to the office by 6pm (they close at 6:30) today...if we are lucky. And if our neighbor agrees to do it.

What does anyone think of this?, it is all so Thai to me after 7 years here but uncomfortable just the same. I had 3 years of overstay a while back, long story of it's own but my former employer and my ignorance and poverty at the time were to blame and it was no fun to worry about. That is behind me and I don't want anymore situations like it to creep back into my life.

To prove outside income would require income letter issued by Embassy. But that is not an option unless you are also willing to get paperwork for recording you as legal father at District Office (which believe is also from Embassy/translated/recorded at MFA first). For now it is visa or visa exempt entry and then can ask immigration for 60 day extension as father (taking GF and child and birth paperwork - would also have US passport as further proof) and that will require TM.7/photo/copies of passport/visa/entry/departure card and 1,900 baht fee. Chiang Watanna is not open yet. Major Hollywood is reported to be much faster than Lat Phao.

alt=clap2.gif> okay, I think I got it. but what is TM7?

It is the application form for an extension. Download and print two sided. http://immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/pdf/tm7.pdf

You can find info about immigration office in pinned topic at the top of page 1 of this forum.

Ahh! got you, doh! Thanks again guys :)

  17. Thank You all for your answers! now of course I am confused lol. So I will go to immigration with GF and child in tow and bring all paper works, mentioned.

Do I need my bank records showing transfers (they come from a cousin in the US, it isn't income from working, my point but how to prove that, if needed?.

I am just about to apply for GF's fiancee application, haven't sent it in yet but doing paper work for it right now. Would I need any of that? Will this cost me anything to get an extension?

I live kind of near Chang Watttena anyone know if that is functioning again? Otherwise any suggestions on where the best office to go and do this would be? From what I have read on here the different locations do different services.

  18. Okay, I have 56,000 (aboutish) coming in every month (would I just need to show bank transfer records?) am unmarried but have a boy (with my Thai GF) with an American passport (and Thai passport) which took a DNA test from the states to get but I haven't yet had the chance or need to do the Thai part at the amphor (we are just now applying for a fiancee visa for my GF to go to America, which is going to take a while still). I have been in Thailand 7 years and our child is 2 years old.

I was doing the monthly visa run to poi pot until now for the last 7 months thru JackGolf but as of now from what I can find out the only options I have are this. Anyone know if I am correct in this assumption (as of today)?

Lopburi3 you helped me out with another issue about a year ago when I was Bowery99 on this forum (was banned with that name because I marked the constant emails from the forum spam, didn't know that was an offence at the time).
