I’m not sure if the duty free is open at the airport , however you are not permitted to take alcohol into your quarantine hotel . All luggage is checked and alcohol confiscated.

One business owner was sitting in his bar , talking to no one but immigration said they observed him watching the staff so therefore was working . After paying a very large fine to avoid being deported he sold his bar and moved out of Pattaya.

Please follow the information and instructions from the embassy who deal with these situations every day . They are well aware of how things should be done . Do not listen to much of the misleading/ incorrect information being given my many on this forum .

Much better to get the extension at Immigration as you risk getting caught on overstay . This can easily happen should you be involved in any type of incident that involves showing your passport , including accident, pickpocket, assault etc . 

i am assure you this is happening in pattaya . i was speaking with a canadian bar owner in pattaya city police station two weeks ago that had just been arrested for selling alcohol

in his bar between 2pm and 5pm . he was wearing handcuffs at the time so it was being taken seriously . he was trying to get released on bail.

Yes, always worth waiting until after expiry. But don't leave it more than 6 months or you have to do a full re-test.

if you are stopped by the police or have a accident with a expired license then you have a problem and maybe a expensive one at that .

What I don't get is how so many of you are saying bad things about the OP. He was being ripped off. It doesn't matter if it was only 30 baht or any other amount. This tends to happen all too often in this country and just because some of you are willing to put up with it that just gives them more incentive to do it to others. I feel the same, I don't want to be charged more than what I am supposed to be paying. At what point do some of you feel it is alright to lodge a complaint? 100 baht? 1,000 baht?

most Thai's are not liar's and cheats some are.

You say all you done was ask for your change , however in your first post you say "so i tells her to go and get my change" that sounds more like the true story . manners or in some cases lack of manners is what caused your problem .

After 25 years I think I have only been cheated once or twice but as both times alcohol was involved and the amount was small I let it go. I have however been the recipient of an inordinate amount of kindness and generosity and honesty from Thai.

I am still amazed at the amount of silly people who get them selves into situations here in pattaya. Were people go wrong is how they handle the problem , usually by sticking their chest out , raised voice and digging themselves deeper into a situation.I have found by handling the situation in a calm , polite manner usually solves the problem . By acting the big falang you get no where other than a visit very often to the nearest hospital . It is these low life falang that get everyone a bad name.

I have had two friends who had to report to Bangkok for a test on their language skills before they could get their 90 day extension , and yes the schools themselves are now having more government inspections to ensure the students are actually attending . It will get much tighter for those trying to abuse the system . I know of one school who had more students on their books than they could teach given the size of their premises . Their license was withdrew leaving the students out of pocket as the school closed .

I am living in Thailand on a retirement visa and also been elected to the position of treasurer of my village committee . My duties also include the collection of service charges and other duties . Do I need a work permit . Our committee does not have a juristic person .

You have all got it so wrong but however it is getting boring as you don't seem to understand what is being said in my posts. I will just let you all get on with your grumble .
