  1. Good day All,

I have seen this topic before on TV and looking on Google, I see the last post was in 2011.

I'm looking for milk kefir grains in the Pattaya Area. Any information would be appreciated.

    Kind Rgds,

  2. There was a topic about this not too long ago.

I ride a 650cc here and before that a Harley and are riding scooters as well.

I don't like to ride on the left side (shoulder) on my big bike, you got all the potholes and gravel and so on. I normally stay app on the middle of the road so I have 2 ways to go.

Traffic lights are dangerous here, since many bump the red lights so if you stop you might get rear ended as you mention, check you mirrors again and again and position yourself where it's safe or consider bumping the yellow lights if safer to do so.

When I reach a red traffic light, I always try to get up front and manage that in +99% of the time. LOOK before you take off when green, since as above, many bumps the red lights so make sure it's safe to go.

In my area we don't really have anywhere where you have to sit on the middle of the road to turn right but U-turns, so I keep right there, close to the shoulder.

I normally ride slightly faster than general traffic but looks in my mirrors all the time so I know what is going on around me 360 deg.

Try to "blend" in with the Thai traffic and don't go too fast when there a small side sois branching the highway you are riding on, small scooters often cross and if you come at 200km/h, they don't see you coming.

What to you mean with your last sentence? Safer in a pick-up truck? Well maybe, it all depends, I have a pick-up truck as well but I enjoy the rides on my bike much more. In the truck I just sits in traffic jams and are not going anywhere, drives me nuts sometimes but I need the bloody thing since I have a family here.

A 650cc bike is a good choice for Thailand, the Honda's and Kawa's are made here so they are fairly priced and cheap to run.

Get a Class A insurance on your big bike, bail bond will be paid (hopefully not needed), theft, damage, fire, hospital bills and so on, all covered which gives you peace of mind when riding.

This is all good advice. If I may add a few of my own experiences.

As much as you need to be very vigalent 360all the time and yes you will be looking where you are going, just be very careful of on coming cars and trucks, especially HILUX trucks, tend to pull out, to overtake, when you least expect it. (You think they can see you) 90% of the time, they think you are just another scooter bike. If you are doing anything over 100Kmh the shoulder can sometimes be very narrow.

So if you see an on coming truck with a tail of cars behind it, you can be sure someone in that tail will try overtake the truck regardless of where in the road you are. You are smaller you have to move. (The unwritten rule)

Dogs, kids on scooters, farmers on steel mules and vendors on bikes with side cars all present moving obstacles. The best advice I can give, is don't trust a Thai driver of any sort and always give yourself a huge gap to take evasive action.

Get to know the areas you ride in. Some areas will become known to you for having particularly stupid behavior, so slow down when you enter these areas.

Alcohol and bikes don't mix well anywhere, but its so much more true in Thailand.

Also if you get tagged. and you weren't in the wrong, you will still be in the wrong regardless of the circumstances, so expect to pay for the person`s that tagged you as well. ( I assume you are a Farang)

Lastly despite the challenges, its still great fun on a bike in Thailand. Enjoy !!

  3. The biggest majority of men probably from most countries are addicted to alcohol. they meet other expats and cannot go a day without alcohol.

They have all day to themselves most times with good pensions, and a wife who only married them for their money. There are exceptions to this.

The expats I have known over here for years who are still alive like a drink, there is nothing wrong with that, and I have never seen any of them drunk, and

I'm proud to have them as mates, but I keep hearing from this one and that one about someone being drunk.

Without alcohol the expat lifestyle would not be addictive, and as I said, most of them need to be near beer all the time.

I disagree. There are many other reasons to being an expat. Without thinking about it to much, Weather, Politics, Women and Escape could easily trump alcohol. Being that alcohol is available in most countries around the world. No alcohol certainly isn't keeping me addicted to expat life. Maybe being the center of attraction, when you are in a crowd of nationals, most of us stand out.gigglem.gif

  4. With the Thai Polices shooting skills, he was extremely lucky not to get killed!!

They were probably aiming for his head, but hit the tires by a mistake.................coffee1.gif

    And you know this because:

    a) You have attended the training given to RTP

    B) You have been shot at by the RTP. (Obviously they missed)

    c) You have been witness to numerous chase and shootouts involving the RTP.

Just wondering why bash when I believe you actually have no idea how good or bad they shoot.

  5. I would wait until December when we MAY all know more above the ASEAN AEC rules and regulations

    It maybe easier then

Agree with another poster and live in Thailand for 1 year before you spend any money

Do your market research and due diligence

as I have seen many try and 99% fail

99% fail. Is that a recognised statistic or your opinion???

  6. Suicide ? coffee1.gifcoffee1.gifcoffee1.gif

It seems there was no balcony to be thrown of...this time...

Viagra and heroine. The Viagra would suggest he was intent on filling a wee crack for a long time. The two together probably a very potent cocktail, even for what was a young man. Suicide I doubt. Stupid yes.

  7. this is one of those posts that is couched as a troll, but still reveals many home truths about the poster and fails to succeed at being either amusing or worthy of serious discussion.

i learned to feed myself when i was just a wee lad and have been managing to take responsibility for eating since then.

as for the dangerous mountain switchbacks and inappropriately sized fruit, why would you want to eat while driving under those conditions anyways?

has she quit peeling your grapes as well?

I don't know HooHaa: Certainly put a smile on my ugly face. I'm told I look better when I smile. Seriously you need to tickle yourself a little. Because like me I'm sure you would look better with a smile on your face.

Its well written and is quite funny.

  8. Not a Scientific study,I know plenty of people who have died below the average of 70, of course some drank themselves to death, and others were struck down by illness that's why it's not scientific! too many variables!

Here is the world country by country world average lifespan,

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy

Interesting. Thailand in the middle. life expectancy around 75. Good time to check out in my book. Strange to see the obese Americans ahead of Thailand. Maybe the big mac isn't super sized after all. Heh! Heh!

  9. Never wai those of a lower social standing than yourself.

If you consider yourself of lower social status than an illiterate farmer, wai away.

Most of the comments relate to who gets wai'd. I assume their are rules within Thai culture that are deemed suitable etiquette / respect etc....

MaeJoMTB refers to status. Again I assume status is like respect, its earned. Don't matter if the person you are greeting is an illiterate farmer or not.

  10. 10 years ago Walking Street was full of American / European / Scandinavian / Australian people. Now it's full of Indian / Arab / Chinese people.

Maybe that is the answer to your question OP.

And one or two Caucasian Africans. Ha! Ha! Ha! But your point taken and I happen to agree. the Arabs you mention mostly just window shopping. They can only buy when they can ditch their travel companions. They'd probably be stoned to death, back home, just for window shopping. Don't you just love Islam or any religion for that matter.

  11. Good friend you are; posting his name and disclosing his private affairs on an internet forum without his permission. If a friend of mine did the same to me, they'd be an ex-friend in double quick time.

If you can identify Fred from Isaan you must be Sherlock Holmes. There must be 100's of Fred's from the UK in Isaan. In addition of the few people, that may just well be able to identify the OP's Fred, you can bet they are already fully aware of his situation. If Fred is his real name. Maybe he's called Dick.

Fred!. In truth a very high percentage of us, are with beautiful Thai women because of money. So mate she may well have and still be cheating on you, but as long as she makes you feel good about yourself, go for it, enjoy!!. You wont be needing any credit cards in heaven. (So I'm told LOL :-) )

  12. Amazing place this Koh Tao - to say the least!

Some Swiss body missing, another body found without ID while another miracle case of two dead youngsters is being pushed around on the desks of Bangkok and London.

One of the unhealthiest/most dangerous places on earth? Possibly not but Koh Tao will make it into the statistics of islands ;-)

I'm certainly not in any hurry to visit the place. Sounds very dangerous. I believe, I know danger, having lived in Africa, where life is cheap, for many years.

  13. how convienent that a piece of wood was nearby.and look at the smirk on the coppers face as he squeezes his arm.

You are seeing things that aren't there, Its not a cop but EMS see the "Rescue" in the badge worn on his shoulder. Secondly that doesn't look like he is squeezing his wrist. That looks more like trying to support the arm while asking the victim to perhaps raise his hand to the opposite shoulder, as he seems to be indicating by doing it himself. Probably checking for movement, as he was trying to diagnose the extent of the injury. The look of what appears to be a grimacing howl of pain was probably experienced while trying to complete the manoeuvre, as asked for by the EMS.

  14. Well I see many people are prepared to offer advice on what to do. However nobody, but one has offered any advice on where he can find a Private Dick to dig into her history and find if she is in fact single and with or without dependents. Most Thai ladies think one boyfriend isn't enough.

These Thai ladies are very attractive, that's why, most of us Farang's have traveled half way around the world to be with them. We don't really want to believe our dearest and sweetest Tiirak could be telling a load of half truth's. When something feels that warm and silky next to you, when you wake up in the morning, its very easy to let the little head do all the thinking. A lot better than that lump of lard, you have woken up with, for the last 20+ years. LOL.

  15. You are right. Its not the loud so much, but a very piercing pitch. One doesn't really get used to it. After a couple of months, really look forward to listening to the radio when the female presenters have less hash tones. I'm frequently asking my partner to try talk softer. You don't want to be in the same room when they are excited. Drills right through from ear to ear.

  16. 20k is more than she would make in a job in Issan.

Is that a reason for not paying it? 20K sounds very reasonable if she's supporting a kid and no doubt some of her extended family.

I think we all know and have to accept that when we get involved with a Thai partner you must expect the immediate family to benefit from your inclusion into their family. A relationship with a Thai is never just the two of you. We have to accept she comes with baggage that's a given.

Also let me say the Thai way is a good way. Looking after aging family members is fantastic. If only we had more of this attitude in the west. Unfortunately in the west we grow up being taught independence. In Thailand the family unit is still very strong for the majority of the families. You are fortunate to be in the allowed into the family, best just to accept their ways, its their country and we have left ours, choosing to live here. In addition its nice that older men get to go to bed with younger sexy women albeit for a price.

Its the price one pays for the privilege of living here. So what is expensive for one is cheap for another. We all have pockets that differ in depth..

I've tried living on 20000 Bht S^%t my beer soon ran out. Thailand isn't that cheap any more. Ha Ha ha even the "Bad Girls" in Bangkok, have up their prices. You ain't going to get much change these days for 2000Bht for a bit of nookie.

Yes if your lady stays in the village and resorts to the life style she had before she met you she could very happily live on 20000Bht per month. But then why have a Farang husband/boy friend if your life doesn't change. So if she opens up her arms for you and lets you in, she has a right to expect a better life, similar to the one you are leading. That is if you step into those open arms.
