  1. Just spent 2 days there, Go to Pratnum , maybe Platanum plaza, there is a long covered elevated walkway that goes from 2nd floor Platnum down Ratchadamri Rd and extends all the way past Central world then crosses the road to another large building that you walk through then connects with the BTS covered walkways going up and down Rama 1 Rd. Good exercise at the least.

  2. There's a terrible shortage of skilled craftsmen in Bangkok now at any price. A good friend is having a hard time converting his guest house into efficiency apartments because he can't find carpenters, plumbers, tile layers, etc. and he's offering double the old wages but he won't let the workers live on-site and he has had some who lied about their skill level so now he has to personally supervise all work. He's not a happy camper as he is losing money because of the down time from closing the guest house until he can begin leasing apartments; which he can't do until all work is completed. I wish the vocational schools could focus their student's attention on learning a trade instead of joining a school mob to attack other school mobs. I would like to see some retired Farangs allowed to informally teach some of the building trades. It would certainly benefit the country and the Farang would benefit from having skilled workers available. I want to build a house and am willing to train my workforce but it is not allowed. Education, of all types, is the major impediment to improving lives in this country. You can only blame the 'Elite' so much for willful ignorance.

You are so right! What are they afraid of ? they have a potentially willing and able source of absolutely invaluable knowledge available to tap into, and probably very cheaply where they could do some massive upskilling.

The answer to many of the low incomes has to come from technology and some automation.

  3. I think it would be hard for thai to accept and do but individual schools should go out and look for a western school or even at classroom level and build an association that would impart similar teaching methods and try to duplicate resources.IE model themselves after these schools.

Many western schools would welome the interaction as part of their learning.

Thai schools have reportedly the worst value education system going and I am sure that the lack of tablets is not the underlying reason.

Do Thailands schools have a performance monitoring system?

Most countries social problems can be solved by at least teaching the upcoming generations what should be happening, such as how to accept democratic rule.

  4. Sandman, I have had a heart attack and fear basically drove me to Google out the truth, as it stands at the present time anyway. Read all about it online but the basics that work are firstly NO carbs, cut out rice pasta bread potatoes, this all turns to sugar in your blood, as does fat and of course sugar. Also less calories if your over weight.

daily exercise regime, maybe walk 30-40 min a day, and I dont mean dawdle along with the girlfriend. Try low carb beer, I have 3-4 a day Sanmig, found it the best. my cholesterol crashed down along with my weight.

Look to the Internet my friend and good luck.

  5. Scarpolo, I am experienced in these things and have thought about it a great deal my self.

As in the fallang world relationships fall apart but I am sure they are taken a lot more lightly in Thailand, at least among the ladys you will meet in the bar areas.

Protect yourself both emotionally and financially but stay with it, not easy to do and requires a lot of independence mentally.

Your lady probably does love you a lot --today!.

  6. I dont have a problem paying for something that I know about in advance, are there any signs outside, in english, stating that an entrance fee of 200 baht is payable by fallangs or is it an ambush situation?

  7. My gripe as well, too many times now I have been told to move my motor bike on a public road, last time was today from outside of a pharmacy down a bar soi ,opposite Soi 8. Only the pharmacy wern't concerned when asked, it was the large pushy lady owner of the laundrymat who took exception.

I asked do you own the road as well as was told by her "she pays rent for it". I moved because I knew the alternative would be to stay and take care of my bike.

Part of the price you pay to stay in paradise I guess.
