  1. Hello everyone.

Due to terrible floods in Bangkok tonight the water level kept rising on my way home and with no way to escape from it unfortunately. After a while in deep water the indicators and the horn stopped working as well as the lights that show what gear you're in.

Despite revving a lot the engine cut out and I had no choice but to restart it. I managed to get home but unfortunately the electrics still seem to be out and I just tried starting it only for it to make a strange sound.

I'll take it to a shop tomorrow but does anybody know how much this may cost or what the problem is exactly? Thanks

  2. So, two of the three screws that hold the basket on my Wave have rusted apart and the basket is also pretty rusty.

Is it possible to get this repaired or will I have to buy a new basket entirely? Also any ideas of the cost?

In the meantime I've used a bungee cord to tie around the bike and hooked it to the basket to stop it from falling off. Is this dangerous?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Covid insurance duration and expiry date of extension of stay are two separate issues.  Covid insurance is for Thailand Pass application and the extension of stay is a Immigration matter.  Do they ask you for covid insurance when you apply for your extension of stay? No!

I think you have misunderstood my post. I mean will insurance be accepted if it doesn't last the entire length of our visa?

  4. I am yet to see a definitive answer on how long insurance is needed for expats on long term visas.

Will 30 days be accepted or does it need to last until the expiration of the visa extension?

Does anybody have any experience with this?

I spoke to someone who said that if you get insurance which ends before your extension of stay then they will only stamp you in for as long as the duration of the insurance. Which would mean having to apply for an extension of stay again within 30 days of arrival.

  5. Currently in the process of applying for a UK visit visa to travel over Christmas and New Year. Was a little late to apply because we were waiting for second vaccine dose first. I was wondering if it is worth buying any of the "extras" from VFS such as their own translation services or courier services? Ot is it better to organize this oursevles?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

  6. Apologies if this would be better off in the travel forum.

So, after it becoming increasingly unlikely that we will be able to go back to the UK for Christmas this year we have decided to take a trip to Samui.

We have looked at a few pool villas, namingly Pawanthorn Luxury Pool Villa and The Sarann Hotel, if anybody local has ever stayed at these places then would love to know what you think of them.

Additionally, looking at flights to Samui seem more than double the price than from Surat Thani so may fly to Surat Thani and then get a bus or something. We will be going from the 23rd to 27th of December.

I know it sounds silly but will miss the things from Christmas in the UK such as Bailey's, nice wine, maybe a roast Turkey dinner on the day. I'm happy with Thai food and drink throughout the year but always like having the Christmas stuff around that time. I see there is a Tesco Lotus and Big C on the island, will these have Bailey's and nice wine or maybe there is a Villa Mart that will sell international foods and drinks? How easy is it to get to the supermarkets?

Thanks in advance for any replies with suggestions or advice. Want to make this trip special as we are both a bit disapointed to not make it to the UK this year and I'll be missing my family there.

  7. Hi all,

So my family will be visiting during April including my four year old nephew and one of the things they'd really like to do is bathing with elephants.

I'm aware that there are some of these places in Chiang Mai and Koh Chang but I'm trying to avoid flying or long bus journeys so was wondering if anyone had any experience of these places nearer to Bangkok or know of any places to ride/bathe elephants. It will just be for a few hours, not looking for accommodation or anything. I've seen some places in Ayutthaya and Pattaya, has anybody been to any of these before?

I've lived here seven years but have never done anything like this and I'm aware of the ethical issues surrounding it but it's something my family really want to do.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations or information :)

  8. Hi,

I can't get onto the BBC Sport section on my WiFi network in my building. I am on the 6th floor and have tried the WiFi Network from both the 6th floor and 7th floor but get this message everytime on both laptop and mobile.

I can access BBC Sport on my mobile when using 3G and can also access other parts of the BBC website on my laptop and phone using the Wi-Fi, but not the Sport section.

I have tried turning the router in the hall off and on again and have also followed the advice on this page (https://www.easytechguides.com/google-chrome-connection-errors.html) but nothing works.

As this is a problem on both my laptop and my phone I am inclined to believe the problem is with the WiFi. All other websites seem to be working fine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  9. Hi, so I believe the vans from Victory Monument to Trat are no longer running? Do these vans now leave from Ekkamai or Mo Chit and do we have to book ahead or just turn up and wait?

Due to head off early tomorrow morning and a bit worried they'll all be full.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  10. Hi, so my Non-B visa is from Lopburi immigration but I'm in Bangkok for the next week until I travel back to the UK for Christmas and New Year next week.

As my flight leaves at 6.00AM, I worry that I won't be able to buy my re-entry permit from BKK airport next week as it will be closed between midnight and 5.00am.  Can I go to the airport one day this week and buy the re-entry permit or not as I won't get have a boarding pass?

What are my other options? Thanks in advance.

  11. Hi,

So basically my current passport is due to expire in August of this year. In the next few weeks I am visiting the UK and I plan to get a new passport there using the urgent system whereby I book an appointment and am issued the passport on the same day.

As all of my Non-B visa information is listed in my current (and soon to be, "old") visa, will there be a problem when I re-enter Thailand. So long as I have the new passport for valid travel as well as the old passport with my visa details, extension stamps and re-entry permit, this will be OK?

Thanks in advance for any help, information or advise as I am starting to really panic about this!

  12. name mistake in visit visa form please help

Hi, so yesterday myself and my girlfriend finally confirmed her form online for a visit visa only to realise afterwards that there is a one letter difference between her name on the online form and on the passport.

I should note that this mistake was made as we typed in her name in English copying her Thai id card which is one letter different from the name onhher passport...

If we explain the situation in a separate cover letter will this still be a problem/// I assume that the visa has to be issued using the same name in her passport. Any comments will be useful as I don't want her to be refused for this and I'm seriously panicking today and feel so stupid. ...

    Thanks

  13. Hi, instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd ask here. I am also planning on visiting Koh Chang over Songkran however I was planning on getting a bus from Bangkok on the 13th, returning on the 16th. Is there anywhere I can book bus tickets in advance from and where is the best place to get the bus from? Sorry lots of different information on the web and not sure if the schedules will be different over Songkran. Thanks.
