I regularly read your column as well. I'll probably get flamed by someone but I've been in Thailand since the 70's and knew Trink and Cowboy (the person who gave the soi its name. I first came to Thailand in 1978 and married a Thai in 1980. We are still married nearly 41 years later. Our grandkids are in Udon.

My stepson (Thai) and his wife sell both golden retrievers and labradors (sp). They are in Udon Thani but they ship everywhere. He can be reached on *Phone number removed*. Have a Thai speaker call.

My wife was scheduled to leave Bangkok on EVA on the 27th - she went to their office several times and waited as long as 4 hours - there appeared to be discrepancies from the website and what she was told at the office. In the end she traveled by bus to Chiang Mai and left Thailand on China Airlines. She is at home with me now in California. We like EVA and hold no grudge but this whole mess has been confusing for everyone concerned. The Bangkok Ofice was not answering phones last I heard.
I saw Utapo (sp) flights on the website but the people at EVA Bangkok said they didn't exist. If I was trying to leave Thailand on EVA I would go to their office. Wife said early morning was much quicker than later in the day.

Sometime in the future I will be retiring in Udon Thani. I would like advice on effective mosquito control from expats living in Thailand. My research on the web has just left me confused.

I realize my situation is somewhat different than others. I have a degree and I am in my 50's. I have been married to a Thai lady from Udon for 25 years. We (she, they) own a nice home in Udon. I've been thinking about retiring there in the next few years. Teaching English has interested me for sometime and I read this forum occasionally. Couple of general questions - can I find work in Udon? What pay should I expect in the Northeast? Should I get a TESL Certificate before moving there? I'm in California now. Can I teach on a retiree visa or will I need a different visa with work permit. Any and all advice is appreciated. I have been in Thailand on 40 different occasions over the last 26 years so I feel i have a pretty good feel for the culture etc.

For every real Viet Nam Veteran I'm told there are several fakes. I'm a real one and I've never ever said "If I told you I'd have to kill you". In my opinion that is a sure sign of a phony. I'm well aware that Americans were not the only ones there.
